This essay examines the novel Totenleuchten (2014) written by a German author under the pseudonym Klara Nordin. The main question in the essay is which functions the nature has in addition to the in popular literature so common function as merely a back drop to the plot. It shows that the nature’s primary function is to distinguish and create a difference and a hierarchy between the identities of the three groups of people that occur: samis, northswedes and southswedes. The nature also has a part in the travelogue elements that occur, that close to reality describe places, restaurants and food from the region of Lappland.

This thesis provides an analysis of the creation of suspense in the German children’s book Rico, Oskar und die Tieferschatten (The Spaghetti Detectives), written by Andreas Steinhöfel. The study offers extracts from the novel that contribute to creating suspense. It determines how suspense grips the reader and suggests factors that encourage the reader to continue reading a text. The study explores children’s literature as well as different variations of crime stories, by using theories concerning the first-person narrator and concentration on certain themes in the text; for example on plot and aim, as well as emotions and secrets. One particular variety of suspense is also discussed, the one that focuses on the overall mystery, Macro-suspense. The last chapter provides a discussion on the first person narrator’s impact on the creation of suspense. Further, it determines that the novel above all engages in the concentration of emotions and the concentrations of secrets.

Det här arbetet är en studie av hur två svenska, kvinnliga författare, Katarina Wennstam och Maria Sveland, skildrar sexualiserat våld. Från ett genusperspektiv analyseras berättelser om fysiskt och verbalt våld där frågor om kön, kropp, sexualitet och makt lyfts fram. Begreppen som används i analysen är hämtade från tidigare forskning om våldtäkt i litteraturen. Med hjälp av det som i forskningen ses som ett dominerande våldtäktsnarrativ där sexualiserat våld begripliggörs utifrån ett manligt paradigm lyfter uppsatsen fram andra sätt att skildra och förstå våldtäkter. Analyserna av Svelands och Wennstams skildringar av sexualiserat våld visar att det finns flera sätt att berätta om våldtäkt som inte förminskar kvinnors erfarenheter av sexualiserat våld och reducerar dem till passiva offer. Analysen visar också på hur skildringarna och gestaltningarna av våldet förhåller sig till genrekonventionerna. Slutsatsen är att det i perspektivskiften hur våldtäkt skildras skönlitterärt och i journalistiken finns en förändringspotential för hur samhället ser på samt pratar om våldtäkt.

In this analysis I compare two Swedish crime novels through a Marxist literary perspective. I compare how the policeman Viktor Adolphson and the social researcher Rickard Ulmestig chooses to describe the same line of work, namely police work, in their books Götgatsbacken and Schackspelet. With the theoretical framework of Marxism, I will explore the ideologies behind the texts by gathering information on the authors, the history of policing and the crime genre in a Swedish context. This will culminate in a comparative analysis of relevant scenes. The goal is to understand what ideological framework the authors have knowingly or unknowingly infused in their text.
