Konstrukce identity v emocionální kultuře / Constuction of Identity in the Emotional Culture

Prýmková, Karolína January 2011 (has links)
Diploma thesis Construstion of Identity in the Emotional Culture deals with possible changes in the construction of identity of man after the fall of the millenium. The thesis stems from Eva Illouz's description of society which states that our present society is unprecedently emotional and rational at the same time. The goal of this thesis is to advocate the intitial statement, that in this organization of society the main source for construction of identity is no longer the consumption of material goods as it put notable social theorists since the second half of the twentienth century. I do not state that this remarkable era is fully over now, but I would like to point out, that consumption of material goods is loosing its strength in the process of identity construction due to the overall increasing living standards and mainly due to the fragmentarization of lifestyles. Considering the unprecedently high level of penetration of our society with emotion I consider them to be the new source of identity creation.

Materiální kultura jako nositel sociálně-politické organizace: Keramika kultury Chimú / Material culture as a vehicle of social - political organization: Chimú pottery

Květinová, Sylvie January 2011 (has links)
The Chimu culture developed on the North Pacific coast of today's Peru in the so-called Late Intermediate Period, i.e. approximately AD 1000 - 1476, after which it was dominated by the Inca. Brief characterization of the Chimu culture, supported by ethnohistorical and archaeological sources, is followed by description of its crafts, especially ceramic technology, morphology and iconography. Artifacts, i.e. object used, modified or made by people, may serve apart from practical also social and symbolic roles. Based on the theoretical background of evolution of power and society, different approaches to the study of artifacts' function, specialization, exchange and social complexity are outlined and tested on the Chimu pottery assemblage from the Ethnologisches Museum in Berlin. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of the 1832 available ceramic vessels, lacking the contextual find information, had to focus solely on the formal aspects of the specimens. Interpretation of the obtained results disproves primary position of pottery as means of social - political organization in the Chimu and Chimu-Inca societies (occupied by fine textiles and metal items), but still points out certain non-utilitarian aspects of both Chimu and Chimu - Inca styled pottery which probably represented a secondary socio -...

Kulturní dimenze francouzské zahraniční politiky 1990-2010 / Cultural Dimension of the French Foreign Policy 1990-2010

Tomalová, Eliška Disertace: Kulturní dimenze francouzské zahraniční politiky 1990-2010 Abstract The dissertation thesis "Cultural Dimension of French Foreign Policy: 1990-2010" studies the role of culture in the foreign policy with focus on France. In the first part the cultural dimension of foreign policy is introduced within a wider theoretical and conceptual framework and basic characteristics and distinguished features of the French model are defined. The autor defines two aspects of foreign cultural policy: cultural diplomacy (being art of public diplomacy) and traditional multilateral diplomacy aimed at cultural topics (e.g. within WTO or UNESCO). This divison is also reflected in the structure of the thesis. The main topic of the second part of the thesis is the French cultural diplomacy as such. The third part presents an analysis of the role of France within multilateral negotiations and international cooperation in the cultural field using as an example its endorsement of the principle of cultural exception and cultural diversity in international relations. The thesis argues that while in the field of cultural diplomacy France in only one of the players (even if very influential) the strength of cultural dimension of French foreign policy lies in the traditional multilateral diplomacy, which is...

Plastická krása - tělo v kontextu estetické chirurgie / Plastic beauty - the body within the frame of aesthetic surgery

Koktová, Eva January 2011 (has links)
In Czech Republic, aesthetic plastic surgery experiences a boom. By offering body modification it also contributes to a change in perception of the body and physicality of a contemporary man in a certain way. In this dissertation I have attempted to view aesthetic plastic surgery as an institution to which three different paths lead - the path of a client, the path of a physician and the path of promotion. I have approached the topic through the interviews with people who have personal experience with aesthetic surgery. Foremost I was interested in what their individual experience with the body was, what brought them to the decision to have their body surgically modified and what was the role of contemporary culture which ceaselessly produces idealized images of a human body in this decision. To my research I have added interviews with physicians who practice at clinics of aesthetic medicine together with managers of these clinics who take care of the promotion. Through their bodies people express their personality, they strive to reach an ideal harmony and even a minor modification of appearance may significantly help them to achieve this. The body has become a project and plastic surgery a tool how to win control over it - despite the signs of aging, maternity and congenital defects.
