Nilsson, Sarah January 2009 (has links)

The Internet is a constant source of information about the world and has contributed to the globalization of texts and pictures. A part in the tourists process of consumption involves looking at pictures and read about places that create an image of places that they have never been to. Websites are therefore important as a first impression and it is here that places are being represented. Places are created on the Internet and the Australian outback is an example of this. The study is interesting because it can be used to understand the relationship between people and places. The purpose of this study has been to study how the inner part of the Australian country is represented on the Australian official websites. The questions I have asked is about what is represented in the texts and pictures on the websites and what discourse is created whit these texts and images about the inner parts of Australia. I have also asked the questions of what is unique for the outback and what is alike/not alike tourism marketing in general. The study is based on a discourse analysis which means that I have studied how texts and images on the Internet represent places. A discourse is about different kind of representations, to speak about places. The websites that I have chosen to analyze is created by governmental organizations in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Also the official website for Australia as a destination is analyzed. Representation is about describing different things and picturing things in the mind. The analysis showed that the outback is represented as an unknown and mystical place whit spectacular landscapes, adventures, farms and friendly locals. One of the conclusions is that the outback is a place whit meaning of difference depending on who it is that experiences it. Another conclusion is that the discourse about the Australian outback is a part of the tourism marketing discourse order which affects how the discourse is constructed.

Sundberg, Moa January 2018 (has links)

Jonasson, Jonathan, Håkansson, Johan January 2018 (has links)
In this essay we will examine what kind of knowledge is used by community planners at the municipal level in their work to counter segregation. More specifically it examines where this knowledge comes from, how it is applied in practice as well to what extent the opinions of the citizens are used as a source of knowledge. This has been examined with the help of qualitative research based on interviews. The interviews have then been transcribed, compared to one another and analysed on the basis of the issues, previous research and Michel Foucault´s theories of power and knowledge, specifically his concept power/knowledge. The results showed there was a consensus among the interviewed informants that the most common way of acquiring knowledge was by studying the outcome of previous planning projects. In addition to this, it was found that the most common and seemingly most popular way to counter segregation was with a mixed form of housing, that is to say, mixing different types of forms of tenure in the same area. The area for which there were most differing opinions among the informants was whether or not the opinions of citizens were an important and relevant source of knowledge. Several of the informants regarded that important information was found that could be of help in their planning process, while one of them was skeptical about the relevance of the knowledge that emerged during the dialogue with the citizens. Keywords: Segregation, housing segregation, urban planning, knowledge, power, Michel Foucault, power/knowledge, civic participation.

Barnens plats i staden : Ett arbete om barns användning av det offentliga rummet / Children's place in the city : A study on children's use of public spaces

Malmström, Elin, Svensson, Marika, Ursin Masterdalshei, Ewelina January 2018 (has links)
This essay aims at exploring playgrounds with special connection to children and its use ofpublic space. Also how this is affected by the type of housing in which the children live inand how the physical design of the public space affects their use. The work has a qualitativeapproach and an observation has been made at playgrounds relevant to the essay. A planningarchitect at Karlstad municipality was interviewed for insight into how the work withplaygrounds is done, from the municipality's perspective. After exploring the in-depth andout-of-the-range perspective, it appears that both perspectives have the same value in thechildren's play and design of the room, however, the prioritization differs slightly from whatparents value higher than what the municipality chooses to focus on.

Stenlund, Erik January 2018 (has links)
Urban green areas: An analysis of accessibility of urban green areas in Umeå Tom Erik Stenlund, Department of geography and economic history, Umeå University, Sweden Abstract: This study aims to analyze and describe how accessible the urban green areas are in Umeå. The study examines the accessibility in two different ways, when it comes to the urban fringe forest it’s valued depending on how much of it exists inside the study area. The parks and green areas and recreational areas is valued depending on how far away habitants live from one of the parks/green areas and recreational areas.Using a quantitative approach, the study aims to describe the accessibility through spatial patterns which is largely conducted in ArcGIS. The study concludes the growth of today and with the goals of the municipality 10.6 percentage of the urban fringe forest/natural areas will have disappeared by 2028. Alongside with the growth of population in the urban area of Umeå it means that 138 m2 of the urban fringe forest/natural areas will be lost per person, or 34 percentage of the area per person since 2008. The second analysis is a network analysis of the service area of each park/green area or recreational area, and for the park/green area is based on walking speed and the recreational areas is based on cycling speed. The study shows that within 5 minutes of parks/green areas 28.3 percentage of the total population of Umeå lives. Within 10 minutes of the park/green areas 54.7 percentage of the total population. 5 minutes within the recreation areas 37.1 percentage of the population of Umeå lives and 81.7 percentage of Umeå’s population lives within 10 minutes of a recreational area.Further the study discusses the problems that a densification strategy could have on urban green areas, and how the accessibility might change with it. Keywords: Accessibility, Urban green, ArcGIS, Network analysis, Densification
