International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 18-21, 2004 / Town & Country Resort, San Diego, California / Serial interfaces (RS232, RS422/485) have been the standard method of communications in traditional data acquisition systems. The role of these interfaces has been to supply a simple setup and control path between a host and the data acquisition master and little else. Today’s distributed data acquisition systems (DAS), which are comprised of many types of components including Ground Support Computers (GSC), Pilot Control Units (PCU), Data System Control Units (DSCU), Solid State Recorders (SSR), Data Acquisition Units (DAU) and Cockpit Instrumentation Data Systems (CIDS), are ideally suited to the use of Ethernet for not only setup functions, but for the distribution of acquired data and status to an unlimited number of users. Besides the obvious advantage of higher data rates, Ethernet provides other benefits such as greater data integrity, multi-host capability, and common programming interfaces. This paper details the integration of new L3 Communications - Telemetry East (L3-TE) Ethernet based software and hardware components that are part of the Comanche Data Systems equipment suite.

A prototype system, the High-Rate Wireless Airborne Network Demonstration, was developed from commercial off-the-shelf components while leveraging the existing telemetry infrastructure on the Western Aeronautical Test Range. This approach resulted in a cost-effective, long-range, line-of-sight network link over the S and the L frequency bands using both frequency modulation and shaped-offset quadrature phase-shift keying modulation. This paper discusses system configuration and the flight test results.

The Advanced Range Telemetry Program will introduce several new technologies to the telemetry community over the next several years, how will we use and build on them for the future? What kind of architecture will we need to be able to interact with the M&S and Training communities? How do we create that architecture and to what use would it be put by a test program? The answer, we believe, is to build the equivalent of a network in the sky. An extension of the Internet, in simplistic terms. The system under test (SUT), or the systems in training would become nodes of a large interactive network. Instead of the SUT being treated as something outside the sphere of control for the range, the SUTs onboard instrumentation systems would become an integral part of the greater range complex. This paper will address what the architecture of a real-time telemetry network might look like and how it could be implemented within the telemetry community.

Wireless Data Acquisition in Flight Test Networks

They have gained significant traction due to advantages afforded by the lack of wires. These same advantages can prove valuable in Flight Test for data acquisition. Sensor nodes are ideal candidates for low bandwidth wireless networks. Located in remote, hard to reach and hostile environments, wirelessly acquiring data from such sensor can solve a number of existing issues for FTI engineers. Implementing such wireless communication introduces a number of challenges such as guaranteeing reliable transfer of the sensor data and time synchronization of the remote nodes. This paper addresses wireless sensor acquisition, the associated challenges and discusses approaches and solutions to these problems.

Semiparametric Estimation for Extreme Values

Nous appliquons la théorie asymptotique des expériences statistiques à des problèmes liés aux valeurs extrêmes. Quatre modèles semi-paramétriques sont envisagés. Tout d'abord le modèle d'échantillonnage de fonction de répartition de type Pareto. L'index de Pareto est le paramètre d'intérêt tandis que la fonction à variation lente, qui intervient dans la décomposition de la fonction de survie, joue le rôle de nuisance. Nous considérons ensuite des observations i.i.d. de fonction de répartition de type Weibull. Le troisième modèle étudié est un modèle de régression. On considère des couples d'observations $(Y_i,X_i)$ indépendants, les v.a. $X_i$ sont i.i.d. de loi connue et on suppose que la fonction de répartition de la loi de $Y$ conditionnellement à $X$ est de type Pareto, avec une fonction à variation lente et un index $gamma$ qui dépendent de $X$. On fait l'hypothèse que la fonction $gamma$ a une forme quelconque mais connue, qui dépend d'un paramètre $ heta$ dans $SR^K$. Le paramètre d'intérêt est $ heta$. Enfin, nous étudions un modèle linéaire avec des innovations de fonction de répartition de type Pareto. Pour chacun de ces modèles, notre démarche est de construire des alternatives, d'établir la normalité locale asymptotique et l'existence d'un estimateur asymptotiquement efficace, ce qui n'est possible que parce que les alternatives que nous avons construites sont des alternatives les plus difficiles. Pour les deux derniers modèles, l'estimateur asymptotiquement efficace que nous proposons n'a, à notre connaissance, pas encore fait l'objet d'une publication.
