Employee interpersonal communication| The relationship to morale within the professional learning community

James, Dawn Marie 03 August 2013 (has links)
<p> The study investigated the relationship between perceived levels of positive and negative employee interpersonal communication and morale within a large public school system in Tennessee (<i>N</i> = 714) using the Workplace Morale Questionnaire. Correlational research during Phase 1 (<i>n</i> = 187), using Pearson <i>r</i> tests and qualitative data, suggested significance among all findings, including a strong, direct relationship between expressed appreciation and morale; strong, indirect relationship between backbiting and morale. Pre-experimental, one-group pretest/posttest research, during Phase 2 (in-service, <i>n</i> = 48; two-month challenge, <i> n</i> = 54; follow-up survey, <i>n</i> = 291), using qualitative data, chi square and independent samples <i>t</i> tests, examined whether changes in employee interpersonal communication altered perceived levels of morale, suggesting no difference based on condition.</p>

Storytelling, Blogging, and Empathy in School Administrators

Semel, Ellen 25 March 2017 (has links)
<p> This study examines whether or not empathy can be increased in school administrators through blogging. Five school administrators blogged for three months, shared posts with each other, and used narrative writing techniques. A mixed methods analysis was completed. The Davis Interpersonal Reactivity Index was administered as a pre and posttest. Results were calculated using a dependent <i>t</i> test. No statistical significance was found. The quantitative analysis was completed using a computer assisted qualitative data analysis program called MAXQDA. The analysis revealed that the majority of posts included reflection, an essential element of empathy. Currently, school administrators have been tasked with the dual roles of leadership and management. Their interpersonal skills, especially empathy, must be honed to ensure their efficacy. The study was modeled on research completed in the medical field using physicians in training. Results from the medical field showed that blogging did increase the physicians&rsquo; capacity to change perspectives and to reflect. The difference between blogging for physicians and school administrators, though, is that blogging also served as an easy way for administrators to establish a communication and professional network. Perhaps, through blogging, it is possible to increase the administrator&rsquo;s capacity for reflection, perspective taking, and ultimately, for empathy for all of their stakeholders.</p>

Arbetstagares upplevelser av psykologiska kontraktsbrott : En kvalitativ intervjustudie / Breaching psychological contracts and how this is perceived by employees : A qualitative interview study

Eklund, Carl, Wennerberg, Nils January 2016 (has links)

Arab management practices from a trust perspective : the case of international companies in Morocco

El Hakimi, Imane January 2016 (has links)
This research contributes to our understanding of trust in the international business environment, exploring the development of trust, and the influence of culture, structures and hierarchies, and international business communications. The focus is on the management of employees working in foreign-owned, international businesses operating in Morocco. With few notable and very valuable exceptions, there has been very little research exploring the Arab approach to management and even fewer pieces of research focus on the development of trust in this context. A qualitative research approach was employed, as so little is understood about the context and the phenomenon. A total of 30 interviewees from various managerial and organisational levels represented the sample of the study with five participating international companies, from different sectors established in Morocco. Using a content-thematic analysis, the research shows that Moroccan employees prefer working in international companies and their preference is associated to many factors such as the work environment they belong to, the financial and social benefits they receive, career advancement and employees’ development as well as being a part of a defined and organised structure where information is well circulated and communication is encouraged. In this way, this research contributes not only to our understanding of the development of trust in an Arab context but also sheds more light on cultural aspects which was found out in the research that they were interpreted differently such as the case of Hofstede’s uncertainty avoidance dimension. In particular the research suggest that some, non-Arabic researchers, may have misinterpreted certain behaviours in Arab cultures. This leads the research to a final conclusion that clearly shows the importance of considering Arab management as a fourth paradigm to explain managerial practices in the Arab World as suggested by Weir (2008) and better understand their practices (Hutchings and Weir, 2006).
