Self-perceptions of leadership skills & attitudes of college sophomore student leaders

The purpose of this study was to assess the self-perceptions of leadership skill development and attitudes of experienced collegiate sophomore student leaders who elected to take an undergraduate collegiate leadership course. Leadership attitude, for the purpose of this study, consisted of one's group or leader orientation. The five leadership skills studied were working in groups, positional leadership, communication, decision-making, and understanding self. A post-then methodology was utilized with self-reporting as the process by which data was collected following completion of an academic leadership course. The major findings of this study were as follows: After the semester course, there were no significant differences among sophomore student leaders regarding their attitude toward the construct leadership orientation and their attitude toward the construct group orientation. In addition, the sophomore student leaders who completed the academic leadership course displayed a self-perceived increase in their ability to work in groups, work in positions of leadership, communicate, make decisions, and in their awareness of self. No relationship was found between the self-reported attitudes on leader or group orientation of sophomore student leaders with the amount of high school leadership courses that were completed. No statistically significant relationship was found between the self-reported attitudes on group orientation of sophomore student leaders and the amount of leadership activities in which the subjects participated in high school. A statistically significant positive relationship was found between the self-reported attitudes on leader orientation of sophomore student leaders and the amount of leadership activity participation in high school. No statistically significant relationship was found between the post-class self-perceptions of the leadership skills of sophomore student leaders and their high school leadership education. A statistically significant relationship was found between the self-perceived communication skills of sophomore student leaders and the amount of leadership activities completed in high school. The more high school leadership activities in which students participated, the less confidence the students perceived in their communication skills. Statistical analysis failed to reveal a relationship between an attitude of group orientation and any one type of leadership skill.

Rektorers uppfattning gällande tillgänglig lärmiljö / Principals view of inclusive learning environment

I den här studien undersöks några rektorers uppfattning gällande tillgänglig lärmiljö utifrån Specialpedagogiska skolmyndighetens tillgänglighetsmodell (2018) vilken innefattar pedagogisk-, fysisk- och social miljö.   Vidare undersöks hur rektorer uppfattar arbetet med tillgänglig lärmiljö och hur det organiseras samt säkerställs på den skola hen är ansvarig för. Den här studien visar att rektorers uppfattning kring begreppet tillgänglig lärmiljö varierar, så även arbetet med uppföljning och säkerställande. Några av de uppfattningar som framkom var att samverkan mellan olika professioner ses som en del i det främjandet arbetet där specialpedagogen har en viktig roll i arbetet med att utforma, samt skapa förståelse av vad begreppet tillgänglig lärmiljö innebär och leder till. I den här studien har en kvalitativ metod använts, där resultatet presenteras i form av en tematisk innehållsanalys. I studiens resultat framkommer en osäkerhet kring begreppet tillgänglig lärmiljö vilket påverkar både organisation och säkerställande olika utifrån rådande skolkontext. Rektorerna framhåller pedagogernas roll i frågan kring tillgänglig lärmiljö och ett delegerat ansvar till pedagogerna ute på golvet. I den här studien framkommer även att tillgänglig lärmiljö påverkas av många olika faktorer, som till exempel ekonomi, politisk styrning och samhällspåverkan. Trots det anser samtliga rektorer sig ha stort inflytande gällande utformandet av tillgänglig lärmiljö. Det lyfts också en del kritiska aspekter kring vilken effekt tillgänglig lärmiljö ger elevernas utveckling och lärande. Resultatet har analyserats utifrån ett sociokulturellt perspektiv för att skapa en förståelse av rektorernas uppfattning gällande tillgänglig lärmiljö, hur lärmiljöer organiseras och säkerställs.

<b>Understanding the Role of Growth Mindset on Innovative Thinking in Working Professionals</b>

<p dir="ltr">Today's leaders must manage sophisticated global value chains, navigate rapid technology shifts, strategize to stay ahead of competitors, and thwart attacks from cyber criminals while keeping their diverse, aging workforce engaged and innovating. Creativity and innovation result from people's work and are now business assets paramount in the change process. Understanding how to foster these skills in working professionals has implications for education, business, and governments around the world. The problem addressed by this study supported both practical challenges and research limitations to fills gaps in existing research while expanding the understanding of growth mindset, interest in AI, and innovative thinking to support addressing the shortage of working professionals with innovative thinking skills. These are often called durable skills, required to compete in the rapidly changing global marketplace and to ensure long-term employability. Thinking skills such as flexibility, creativity, and innovation are attracting global attention as leaders face international competition and rapid technological change.</p><p dir="ltr">The purpose of this study was twofold: (a) to explore if growth mindset is related to innovative thinking in working professionals, and (b) to explore whether a growth interest in artificial intelligence impacts innovative thinking in working professionals. An exploratory research field study of working professionals participated in the research. Participants were recruited via LinkedIn. A total of 298 responses were included in the analysis. A weak positive correlation, though not significant (p=.05) was found for growth mindset and innovative thinking. The strongest, significant relationship found a moderate positive correlation between interest in AI and innovative thinking. Another significant finding was that individuals with a high interest in AI generally ranked higher in innovative thinking than those with a solely a high growth mindset or low in both. Individuals high in both had the highest overall innovative thinking.</p><p dir="ltr">This study provides researchers and practitioners with a new understanding of innovative thinking, growth mindset, and interest in AI in working professionals while contributing to research literature topics, including leadership, human resource development, business, talent management, psychology, and technology. It has practical implications in teaching and learning and skills development of working professionals in business. Applying a survey tool that could be used in the workplace in 10 minutes, a practical, cost and time-effective tool has been demonstrated to provide valuable individual insights on innovative thinking and mindset. Further, as organizations strive to improve competitiveness and integrate artificial intelligence, this study found that individuals with growth mindset and growth interest specifically in AI demonstrated higher innovative thinking scores than those low in both, suggesting that growth mindsets matter in innovative thinking - a component vital for long-term employability and global competitiveness - and may offer insights into future hiring. One of the fundamental aspects of using GenAI is the ability to formulate solid questions and be willing to experiment. These are two critical aspects of innovative thinking. This study found that questioning had the strongest significant positive correlation with a growth mindset while experimenting had the strongest significant positive correlation with growth interest in AI.</p>
