The cross section of the diffractive process e+p → e+Xp is measured at a centre-of-mass energies of 319 GeV, where the system X contains at least two jets and the leading final state proton p is detected in the H1 Very Forward Proton Spectrometer. The measurement is performed in photoproduction defined by photon virtualities Q2 < 2 GeV2 and in deep-inelastic scattering with 4 GeV2 < Q2 < 80 GeV2 . The results are compared to next-to-leading order QCD calculations based on diffractive parton distribution functions as extracted from measurements of inclusive cross sections in diffractive deep- inelastic scattering. A collinear QCD factorization theorem is tested against the measured cross sections and their ratios. 1

This study finds leader genuine emotion does influence firm performance in two ways. First it can result in positive effect on subordinate attitude which, in turn, increases firm performance. Second, it can result in negative direct effect on firm performance after controlling for the indirect effects just mentioned. These results are interpreted herein to provide support to the claims by many (Ashforth & Humphrey, 1993; Gardner et al., 2009a; Humphrey et al., 2008; Hunt et al., 2008) that properly managed genuine leader emotion should lead to positive outcomes and improperly managed genuine leader emotion should lead to negative outcomes. Here, proper management is contingent upon displaying emotions that “correspond” with display rules, situational requirements, and audience expectations. Thus, it is recommended herein that leaders closely monitor their behavior, predominately using genuine emotional displays when appropriate and deep acting when their genuine emotions do not align with the requirements of their role.

Numerical prediction of the impact of non-uniform leading edge coatings on the aerodynamic performance of compressor airfoilsElmstrom, Michael E. 06 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited / A computational fluid dynamic (CFD) investigation is presented that provides predictions of the aerodynamic impact of uniform and non-uniform coatings applied to the leading edge of a compressor airfoil in a cascade. Using a NACA 65(12)10 airfoil, coating profiles of varying leading edge non-uniformity were added. This non-uniformity is typical of that expected due to fluid being drawn away from the leading edge during the coating process. The CFD code, RVCQ3D, is a steady, quasi-three-dimensional Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) solver. A k-omega turbulence model was used for the Reynolds' Stress closure. The code predicted that these changes in leading edge shape can lead to alternating pressure gradients in the first few percent of chord that create small separation bubbles and possibly early transition to turbulence. The change in total pressure loss and trailing edge deviation are presented as a function of the coating non-uniformity parameter. Results are presented for six leading edge profiles over a range of incidences and inlet Mach numbers from 0.6 to 0.8. Reynolds number was 600,000 and free-stream turbulence was 6%. A two-dimensional map is provided that shows the allowable degree of coating non-uniformity as a function of incidence and inlet Mach number. / Lieutenant Commander, United States Navy

The role of the principal in leading and managing teaching and learning in Lesotho : a case study of distributed leadership in two primary schools in the distric of Botha-Bothe.Sefeane, Litlhaka A. 28 May 2015 (has links)
Education in Lesotho was not available to all children until the year 2000 with the
introduction of the Free Primary Education policy. Since then, the huge rise in enrolments,
the abolition of school fees, the effects of new policies and the problems of HIV/AIDS have
expanded the demands on the principal while limited human and financial resources threaten
the quality of education.
This study investigates the role of two principals in the Botha Bothe district in the leadership
and management of teaching and learning as well as the strategies they employ to overcome
the difficulties. Special attention is given to distributed leadership so that accountable,
effective and efficient leadership and management can take place.
Qualitative methodology has been used through instruments such as questionnaires, followup
interviews and observations to obtain data from the principals at the schools, one deputy
principal and three to four teachers each.
The findings indicate that the perceived main role of the principal at both these schools is managing
and leading teaching and learning to the required standard. In both schools, it has been found that
principals share their complex managerial duties with teachers and deputy principals, that most
teachers willingly give of their time to contribute to the success of the school in this way and
understand the need for doing so.
By incorporating and respecting teachers’ contributions to leadership, the study shows how both
principals cope with their particular leadership challenges. While the strategies used can serve as a
guide to others within similar contexts, the researcher suggests that the education authorities in
Lesotho need to be more aware of the problems facing schools, should make sufficient human and
physical resources available to help principals manage the schools properly, and provide for AIDS
orphans adequately.
In addition, support for quality education in the form of ongoing professional development for both
principals and teachers is needed, and more research needs to be conducted related to education issues
in Lesotho.

This thesis investigates vortex dynamics of a plunging airfoil by studying the vorticity transport mechanisms of two-dimensional direct numerical simulations. The simulations were used to study a simplified flat airfoil in a freestream that was subject to pure plunging motion. Quantitative and qualitative analyses were used the validate the two-dimensional simulations and gain insight into the effects of eliminating three-dimensional physics in a nominally two-dimensional flow. Additionally, a parametric study was conducted to analyze the effects of Reynolds and Strouhal numbers on the transport of vorticity.

Flow structures and aerodynamic loads of a rolling wing in a free streamBerdon, Randall 01 May 2019 (has links)
The leading-edge vortex (LEV) is a structure found in unsteady aerodynamics that can alter the forces induced on wings and other rotating structures. This thesis presents an experimental study on LEV development on low aspect-ratio wing rolling in a uniform flow at high angles of attack. The flow structure dynamics of rotating wings in the presence of a free stream are not well understood due to the limited studies under these conditions. In this study, a broad parameter space with varying advance ratio and wing radius of gyration are analyzed using dye-visualizations. In most cases, either a conical LEV structure developed on the inboard part of the wing and persisted to a significant roll angle, as well as the arch structure. Plenoptic PIV was used to validate observations in flow visualizations as well as identify finer structures. A binary classification criterion was defined based on the formation and persistence of the inboard conical LEV structure. This criterion identified the LEV as either conical ,non-conical or transitional. Previous studies inspired the proposal of a ”rotation parameter” ,ΠRot, that was a based on a non-dimensional velocity gradient. A value of ΠRot = 0.17 was found to separate conical and non-conical LEV parameter, suggesting the fundamental importance of this parameter to LEV dynamics. Furthermore, the forces were analyzed to understand the impact of the flow structure on the forces. The conical LEVs had a transient peak followed by irregular udulations while the non-conical LEVs produced high frequency oscillations. In both cases, the force could be understood based on the time-evolution of the LEVs.
Passive bleeding was considered within this study to perturb the flow. Four passive bleed configurations were experimented with at different hole locations and sizes. It was found that a hole applied near the wing root with a large diameter perturbed the flow and transformed the structure from conical to non-conical classifications. This provides a platform to further understand the flow mechanisms that govern LEV formation and evolution by drastically changing flow structures and maintaining the same geometric and kinematic parameters. Additional studies were done analyzing the changes on the forces on the wing. The lift on the passive bleeding did not seem to be affected however, the thrust was decreased to nearly 0.

Background: Focus on processes within organisations emerged during the nineteen ninetees and has since then become the most dominant management method. The main aim and positive features of process orientation is the customer focus and increased flexibility/efficiency. There is not much academic research conducted to leadership combined with processorientation. With this thesis we will minor that gap. The change into a process oriented approach makes a drastic change and the leadership could be a key factor or problem when implementing it. Purpose with the thesis: The purpose of this thesis is to increase the understanding of how leadership is affected, on a top managerial level, as a result of implementing a process oriented approach. Method: In this thesis we have used a qualitative method and a hermeneutic approach to increase the understanding of how the leadership is affected of process orientation. We have made a case study on the Swedish Road Administration, Vägverket who has done a process orientation. We have made six interviews with topmanagers at their headoffice. Conclusion: We have come up with a model that states that a leader within a process oriented organisation can be compared with a tour guide. The model is based on our five key findings of how leadership is affected by changing into process orientation. These are: lead change, achieve aims, increase teamwork, increase communication and increase holistic view. These characteristics applies on a leader when changing into a process oriented organisation. / Bakgrund: Fokus på processer inom organisationer började under 1990-talet och har sedan dess varit den dominerande ledarskapsmetoden. Det främsta målet och fördelarna med processorienteringen är kundfokuseringen samt ökad flexibilitet och effektivitet. Det finns inte mycket forskning beträffande ledarskap kombinerat med processorientering. Med denna uppsats vill vi bidra med en undersökning. Förändringen till ett processorienterat synsätt innebär en drastisk förändring och ledarskapet har en nyckelroll i samband med implementeringen. Syfte med uppsatsen: Syftet med denna uppsats är att öka förståelsen för hur ledarskapet påverkas, på högsta chefsnivån, med anledning av implementeringen av ett processorienterat synsätt. Metod: I denna uppsats har vi använt en kvalitativ metod och ett hermeneutiskt tillvägagångssätt för att öka förståelsen av hur ledarskapet påverkas av processorientering. Vi har genomfört en fallstudie av Vägverket som genomfört en processorientering och intervjuat sex chefer på deras huvudkontor. Slutsats: Vi har tagit fram en modell som säger att en ledare inom en processorienterad organisation kan jämföras med en turguide. Modellen är baserad på våra fem viktigaste områden om hur ledarskap påverkas vid en förändring till ett processorienterat synsätt. Dessa är : att leda förändring, uppnå mål, ökad teamwork, ökad kommunikation och ökad helhetssyn. Detta kännetecknar en ledare när man förändrar till en processorienterad organisation.

Experimental Investigation of Film Cooling Effectiveness on Gas Turbine BladesLi, Shiou-Jiuan 14 March 2013 (has links)
High turbine inlet temperature becomes necessary for increasing thermal efficiency of modern gas turbines. To prevent failure of turbine components, advance cooling technologies have been applied to different portions of turbine blades.
The detailed film cooling effectiveness distributions along a rotor blade has been studied under combined effects of upstream trailing edge unsteady wake with coolant ejection by the pressure sensitive paint (PSP). The experiment is conducted in a low speed wind tunnel with a five blade linear cascade and exit Reynolds number is 370,000. The density ratios for both blade and trailing edge coolant ejection range from 1.5 to 2.0. Blade blowing ratios are 0.5 and 1.0 on suction surface and 1.0 and 2.0 on pressure surface. Trailing edge jet blowing ratio and Strouhal number are 1.0 and 0.12, respectively. Results show the unsteady wake reduces overall effectiveness. However, the unsteady wake with trailing edge coolant ejection enhances overall effectiveness. Results also show that the overall effectiveness increases by using heavier coolant for ejection and blade film cooling.
Leading edge film cooling has been investigated using PSP. There are two test models: seven and three-row of film holes for simulating vane and blade, respectively. Four film holes’ configurations are used for both models: radial angle cylindrical holes, compound angle cylindrical holes, radial angle shaped holes, and compound angle shaped holes. Density ratios are 1.0 to 2.0 while blowing ratios are 0.5 to 1.5. Experiments were conducted in a low speed wind tunnel with Reynolds number 100,900. The turbulence intensity near test model is about 7%. The results show the shaped holes have overall higher effectiveness than cylindrical holes for both designs. As increasing density ratio, density effect on shaped holes becomes evident. Radial angle holes perform better than compound angle holes as increasing blowing and density ratios. Increasing density ratio generally increases overall effectiveness for all configurations and blowing ratios. One exception occurs for compound angle and radial angle shaped hole of three-row design at lower blowing ratio. Effectiveness along stagnation row reduces as increasing density ratio due to coolant jet with insufficient momentum caused by heavier density coolant, shaped hole, and stagnation row.

Determinants of Foreign Exchange Market Intervention by the People's Bank of China and RMB Exchange RateKang, Chiung-wen 29 June 2011 (has links)
In this article, we explore the determinants of foreign exchange market intervention by the People's Bank of China as well as RMB real exchange rate. Mmonthly data from July 2005 to October 2010 are used.
In the foreign exchange market intervention, operating variables and economic variables are studied separately. For the economic variables, we find that economic leading index of China is an important factor to determine whether to intervene or not. In addition, we find that producer price index is better than consumer price index to explain intervention in foreign exchange market. Economic leading index of U.S. is also important to determine the intervention.
For the operating variables, we find that intervention by the People's Bank of China has the characteristics of leaning against the wind and deferred intervention. Foreign capital inflows are also the important determinant of the intervention.
As for the determinants of RMB real exchange rate, we find that the China-U.S. interest rate differentials and China's business cycles relative to the U.S. are the main factors to determine the RMB real exchange rate. Also, the RMB tends to move with the Euro's in the same direction.
