Previous issue date: 2010-11-03 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This M.A. dissertation analyzes the work Idylls of the King (1889), from the English poet Alfred Tennyson, as a historical source. Our first aim is to identify the context of the idylls production, associating the work to political, economical and social matters such as the ones that were formed at the Victorian England. The second one is to identify the singularities from the Tennyson´s authorship through the characters selection, episodes and approached themes from the achievement which we call temporal transition, associating the Arthurian myth to the English history. In that manner, we identify what the author believed to be the mission of the poet, linked to social function of culture. The third aim is to identify the royalty built by Tennyson, based on what he considered to be the tradition which passes through all the nation history, the political and personal virtues / Esta dissertação analisa a obra Idylls of the King (1889), do poeta inglês Alfred Tennyson, como documento ou registro histórico.

Imagens do massacre do Realengo: a função informativa da legenda fotográfica nos jornais impressos / Images of the massacre of Realengo: the informative function of the photographic captions in printed newspapersMônica Rolim Zarattini 23 September 2013 (has links)
The goal of this research was to investigate the informative function of photographic captions focused on the case of the Massacre of Realengo, analyzing the relation between verbal and visual language in contemporary journalism. The essay analyses the contexts in which journalistic photography transits as a discourse through the media, which reaches have been expanded due to the new information technologies. The corpus of this research included 39 first pages of Brazilian newspapers printed editions, dated April 8th 2011, for the study of a tragedy known as the Massacre of Realengo. Kossoy and Gervereau\'s iconographic analysis methods were the most used, and they were compared to the analysis of information units (who, where, when, what and how), contained in the captions inspired by Morin and Santos´ methods. A questionnaire about photographic caption had also been applied to newsrooms\' journalists of the analysed newspapers (editor in chief, executive editors, newsroom directors or photo editors). It was found that over 50% of the newspapers published photographs of the event with their respective captions. By separating each information unit, it was verified how the informative function in each case promoted the dialogue between the imagery sense of the photograph and the logical sense of the text. The other half of the published photographs formed mostly narratives that facilitated their entry into the instance of the live image, a concept developed by Bucci. It was finally concluded that the photographic caption, as a visual unit of easy perception for the readers, fulfilled its reporting function to support the sense of iconographic image in dialogue with other modules of the newspaper text, in general, under the following trends: 1) some captions, written based on the information units, provided support for the meaning of the image; 2) some captions contained only description of what was being seen in the image, therefore, they did not give any support for the meaning of the image; 3) and others were written with information which did not relate to the images, giving sense support to the overall report and to the sensationalist message which most newspapers intended to transmit.

Obraz Španělska a Portugalska v anglicky psaných cestopisech druhé poloviny 18. století / Image of Spain and Portugal in English written travelogues in 1750'Branda, Martin January 2017 (has links)
in English The master thesis is concerned with the analysis and interpretation of English written travelogues of the second half of the 18th century, which described Spain and Portugal. I work with two original texts and one translation from Italian, all texts were popular among their readers. The main goal of the thesis is to create the complex image of both respective countries and their inhabitants, based on the analysis of travelogues. As the fundamental concept of the thesis, I use so-called Black Legend, the negative view of the Iberian Peninsula originating in the 16th century. At the same time, the aim of the thesis is to compare the images in all works and come to more general conclusions about English perception of Spain and Portugal. Svatojiřská legenda a její odraz v porcelánovém papírmašeHEJDUSOVÁ, Aneta January 2019 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the legend of St. George, deals with its processing in the Renaissance Florence and presents monuments with this motif from Italy and Czech territory. The aim of the diploma thesis is the interconnection of the theoretical and practical part. Inspiration became the ceramic reliefs made by Renaissance artists, in particular the della Robbia family. The work will be supplemented by an unconventional technique of processing porcelain paper with the motive of St. George. The theoretical part discusses the life of St. George, deals with the mission of the saint and tells the legendary story of victory over the dragon. Also included are documents that provide a deeper analysis of the legend of St. John the Baptist, as well as the iconography that discusses the St George's legend from the point of view of Christian beliefs. In the practical part, the theoretical part will be used for the processing of composite material from paper and porcelain with motive of St. George the dragonslayer.

Obraz Podkarpatské Rusi v díle Ivana Olbrachta (od reportáže k románu a novele) / The Image of Subcarpathian Rus in the Work of Ivan Olbracht (From Reportage to Novel and Novella)Beníšková, Dagmar January 2011 (has links)
Abstract The thesis deals with the relation of Ivan Olbracht and Subcarpathian Rus. Giving a brief summary of examined territory's history, the authoress attends to Olbracht's Subcarpathian stay and its influence on his work. Olbracht was challenged by the social and political conditions of fossil region to write a set of reportages released in newspaper and afterwards in a double book edition (Země bez jména, Hory a staletí). In the reportages he prepaired a factual and epical field for his prosaic pieces - Nikola Šuhaj loupežník and Golet v údolí (for completeness' sake it's essential to mention Marijka nevěrnice). Authoress devotes herself to a thematic analysis of reportages observing the way Olbracht depicted no longer existing culture and community. She applies this thematic outline on the outlaw novel and the triptych of short stories. It is hereby documented Olbracht's methodics consisting in a stratified narration based on two main layers: factual (empirical) and legendary (poetic).

Možný svět fámy / Possible World of RumourSoukalová, Kateřina January 2013 (has links)
This thesis describes and explains rumours as sociological phenomenon. It deals with circumstances under which rumour arises, how it spreads and how it persists in society. It also deals with the prerequisites for understanding the transmission and any believing in rumour. Emphasis is placed on understanding the rumours without negative connotations which is mostly attributed to it. The theory of fictional worlds brings idea that rumour should not be always fictional, fictitious and a priori negative, but rather should be considered as possibly true, especially in terms of the phenomenon, which it refers. It does not matter how many different variations of the rumour story exist, since all create a frame of reference through which is better spread the rumour; adoption of the rumours is not a sign of fiction, but rather a prerequisite to embed among people. The thesis promotes the view that a rumour is spread mainly due to its content and message, which is mainly a warning. The aim is not to pass the exact story, but to warn about a phenomenon that occurs in society. It is not important wheather the rumour is true in each detail, because the only important aspect is truth of phenomenon which the rumour refers to. Keywords Rumour, theory of possible worlds, conspiracy theories, contemporary legend,...

Ženské postavy ve vybraných prózách Josefa Škvoreckého / Women Characters in the Selected Stories of Josef ŠkvoreckýZamora, Juan January 2019 (has links)
The most frequent - but not the only - way of telling Josef Škvorecký's prose is with the first grammatical person of the singular from the point of view of a male figure, for example that of one of Danny Smiřický. But female characters also play an important role in the story. The aim of this thesis is to study the way in which female figures are shaped in some Škvorecký's prose works. Therefore, we want to study the order in which we learn information about them, what passages are devoted to their characteristics or what other data in the text is associated with them. We rely on the literature on the theory of the character (e. g. Hausenblas and Macurová) and on literature about the author (e. g. Kosková, Trenský, Solecki). Key words: Josef Škvorecký, character, woman, narrator, description, dialogue, Emöke, The Miracle Game, The End of the Nylon Age
