  • The Global ETD Search service is a free service for researchers to find electronic theses and dissertations. This service is provided by the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations.
Our metadata is collected from universities around the world. If you manage a university/consortium/country archive and want to be added, details can be found on the NDLTD website.

Neutrino charm production and a limit to neutrino oscillations

Bailey, David Charles. January 1983 (has links)
The production of charmed particles and a limit to tau lepton production have been measured using a hybrid emulsion spectrometer in the Fermilab wide-band neutrino beam. / The relative cross section for charged current charmed particle production is / (DIAGRAM, TABLE OR GRAPHIC OMITTED...PLEASE SEE DAI) / and the energy dependence of the cross section and the kinematic distributions of the charm events are given. One event with charm pair production was observed. A limit of (sigma)((nu)(--->)(mu)cc)/(sigma)((nu)(--->)(mu)c) < 0.06 (90%C.L.) is set to the ratio of charged current pair and single charm production. The relative rates of D(DEGREES), D('+), F('+), and (LAMDA)(,c)('+) production have been measured--the fraction of D mesons is / (DIAGRAM, TABLE OR GRAPHIC OMITTED...PLEASE SEE DAI) / Momentum, transverse momentum, Feynman X, and fragmentation (Z) distributions are presented. The mean Z for charmed hadrons is 0.59 (+OR-) 0.03((+OR-) 0.03). / No tau leptons were observed, and an upper limit to the (nu)(,(mu))-(tau) coupling of 0.0063 (90%C.L.) is set. For (nu)(,(mu))-(nu)(,(tau)) oscillations this implies / (DIAGRAM, TABLE OR GRAPHIC OMITTED...PLEASE SEE DAI) / for maximum mixing.

Search the decay of the B meson to two leptons at the Belle Experiment

Williams, Kimberly Marie 01 February 2016 (has links)
The set of decays known as B⁰ → l⁺l⁻ are exceedingly rare. This thesis details procedures developed to optimize signal extraction and improve the upper limit on the measured branching fraction. When applied to 85 million BB events collected at the Belle experiment in Tsukuba, Japan, the resulting upper limits on branching fractions were 8.8×10⁻⁸ for B⁰ → e⁺e⁻, 1.0×10⁻⁷ for B⁰ → μ⁺μ⁻, and 8.5×10⁻⁸ for B⁰ → e±μ∓" at the 90% confidence level. / Ph. Black holes and higher dimensions

Doukas, Jason January 2007 (has links)
Higher dimensional black holes are studied in the extra large dimensions scenario. Bulk fermion quasi-normal modes and bulk fermion Hawking emission is calculated. It is found that bulk emission dominates brane emission for d > 5. / To address the Planck phase an effective field theory is investigated. Lepton family number violating processes are elucidated and the corrections to the muon magnetic moment from these channels are calculated. Bounds are placed on the couplings of the theory. / A discrete symmetry between quarks and leptons, and left- right- chirality fields, is orbifolded in 5 dimensions. Using split fermions a one generational standard model extension is found. / An investigation of entanglement in black holes and accelerated motion is presented. It is found that in a certain system the acceleration between two spinors enhances the rate of their disentanglement.
