Denna studie har som syfte att fördjupa förståelse för hur svensklärare på gymnasiet tänker kring valet av litteratur och dess motivering i litteraturundervisningen. Studiens material består av fem kvalitativa intervjuer med yrkesverksamma lärare på ett svenskt gymnasium. Empirin kategoriseras utifrån fem aspekter och analyseras med utgångspunkt i informanternas val av litteratur och dess motivering till litteraturläsning. Studiens resultat diskuteras med hjälp av aktuell litteraturdidaktisk och allmän didaktisk forskning. Resultatet visar att lärarna har ett metareflexivt tillvägagångssätt till litteraturundervisning samt att det finns interna konflikter i didaktiseringsprocessen. Dessa konflikter kopplas till en diskrepans mellan de mätbara kunskapskraven i undervisningen och den sociokulturella aspekten, vilken verkar vara den viktigaste aspekten som lärarna använder för att legitimera ämnesundervisningen. En konsekvens av denna diskrepans är att elevernas förståelse om motiveringen till litteraturläsning i skolan och lärarnas syfte med litteraturundervisning skiljer sig åt. Följaktligen kan detta medföra förvirring hos eleverna. / This essay has the aim to understand how gymnasial teachers in literature discuss their choice of literary texts, and the reason behind that, in relation to the teaching literature. This study is based on qualitative interviews with five different literature teachers in a Swedish gymnasium. The collected data is categorized into five aspects, then analyzed focusing on every specific aspect which the informants adopt in order to motivate their literary choice. The result of this study is discussed using current literature didactic research and relevant theories of general didactics. The result shows that the informants have a meta-reflexive approach when they teach literature but also that there are some internal conflicts in the didactic process. These internal conflicts regard a discrepancy between the measurable parameters in subject teaching and the socio-cultural aspect, which seems to be the most valuable aspect that the informants use in order to legitimate the subject teaching. A consequence of this discrepancy is that the students’ understanding of why reading literature in school and the teachers’ teaching purposes are not aligned. Therefore, confusion may occur among the students.
