Psychological Debriefing of Workplace Trauma: A Case Study of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC)

Antony, Jesmin 21 July 2010 (has links)
Mental stress resulting from a traumatic event in the workplace has a noteworthy impact on employees. Psychological debriefing is offered to TTC employees as a means of immediate trauma support, however, the usefulness of the intervention is unknown. This thesis explores the debriefing intervention using a mixed methods approach. TTC employees who have experienced a traumatic event were recruited. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptom development and time lost from work were compared between debriefed and not debriefed employees. In addition, purposively selected employees were qualitatively interviewed. The quantitative analysis showed no significant differences in PTSD symptomatology or lost time from work between the groups. Despite these results, however, employees who were debriefed had an overall positive perception of the intervention. Further exploration in this area of study would be beneficial to not only the TTC, but to all workplaces at high risk of exposure to traumatic events.

Lost Foam Casting of Periodic Cellular Materials with Aluminum and Magnesium Alloys

Ho, Samson Shing Chung 11 February 2010 (has links)
This study investigates the possibility of fabricating periodic cellular materials (PCMs) via the lost foam casting (LFC) process using aluminum alloy A356 and magnesium alloy AZ91. This approach combines the structural efficiency of PCM architectures with the processing advantages of near-net-shape LFC. An initial feasibility study fabricated corrugated A356 panels. This was followed by a study of casting variables such as pattern design, vacuum assistance, and alloying additions in order to improve the fillability of the small cross-section struts. Finally, integrated pyramidal sandwich panels having different relative densities were subjected to artificial aging treatments and subsequently tested in uniaxial compression. The A356 PCMs experienced a continuous increase after yielding while the AZ91 PCMs exhibited strut fracture after peak strength. The results showed the compressive yield strengths of this study are comparable with those previously reported PCMs produced by different fabrication methods.

Customer-based brand equity of lost customers

Bogomolova, Svetlana January 2009 (has links)
This thesis explores the reasons why customers stop buying brands. The first part quantifies what proportion of customers defect for the reasons that are within and beyond brand managers' control. The second part examines how the reasons for defection impact on post-defection brand equity of former brand.

A Novel Low-Overhead Recovery Approach For Distributed Systems

Kosaraju, Sundeepthi 01 December 2009 (has links)
In this work we have addressed the complex problem of recovery for concurrent failures in a distributed computing environment. We have proposed a new checkpointing and recovery approach that enables each process to restart from its recent checkpoint and therefore guarantees least amount of recomputation to be done after recovery. The proposed new approach deals effectively with orphan and lost messages. We have introduced two new ideas. The value of the common checkpointing interval is such that it requires to log only the messages sent in the recent checkpoints of the processes. The lost messages are always determined a priori by the initiator process in parallel to the normal distributed computation. Thereby, it does not delay the recovery approach in anyway.

Vybrané problémy konsolidace dceřiných podniků v reflexi IFRS / Selected problems of consolidation of subsidiaries in the reflection of IFRS

Tuťálková, Tereza January 2012 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals consolidation of subsidiaries with particular interest in a foreign currency and loss of control. The thesis id divided into 5 parts. The first part defines importance of the consolidated financial statements for the users, summarizes the basic terms and provides standards that deal with consolidated financial statements. Second part defines the obligation to prepare consolidated financial statements, determining the degree of influence, the exemtion from consolidation for investment companies and the consolidation of subsidiaries acquired for resale. The third chapter contains a basic definition of full consolidation method and theory is demonstrated on a complex example focusing on intra-group transactions and non-controlling interests. The fourth part deals with the issue of foreign currency. There are describe the basic term from area foreign currency and the procedure for determining the functional currency. After that there are described two types of exchange differences and swown in a smaller examples. The last chapter deals with the problem lost of control and theory is again explained by the smaller examples including the reclassification of other comprehensive income. It gives also example on deconsolidation of foreign subsidiary. The whole work contains comment, as this issue is solved according to Czech accounting legislation.

Návrh změny výroby tvářené součásti na technologii lití do keramických skořepin / Proposal for a change in the production technology of a formed part on the technology of castings into the ceramic shells

Bednárik, Marko January 2021 (has links)
This diploma thesis describes the process of production of the cast by the lost-wax casting method. It includes the manufacturing of prototype models by additive technology, creation of ceramic shell molds. The work also includes an experimental part focused on the production of the selected parts by the method of the lost-wax casting and the comparison of this method with other types of production.
