Lozanovmetoden/Suggestopedi : En komparativ studie av suggestopedisk praktik och traditionell språkundervisning / The Lozanov Teaching Method/Suggestopedia : A Comparative Study of Suggestopedic Practice andTraditional Teaching of Foreign LanguagesKinnander, Rebecca January 2022 (has links)
This is a qualitative research project aimed to compare traditional teaching of foreign languages and suggestopedia in order to seek an answer to whether the suggestopedic practice is compatible with traditional school. The theoretical framework is based on Michel Foucault’s history of ideas of how power has developed over time and how power structures have shaped society, institutions and consequently school. A theoretical review of how language didactics have evolved over the last centuries is added to Foucault’s ideas for the purpose of establishing a definition of traditional teaching. A collection of empirical material has been carried out by interviewing teachers practicing suggestopedic pedagogy and subsequently analyzed and interpreted from a phenomenological perspective, with a hermeneutic approach. The result of the study shows that school as an institution can be said to consist of an establishment maintained through coercion, control, assessment and ranking, factors that have consequences for how teaching is designed and thereby, as the study shows, implying a risk of leading to insecurity, stress, and anxiety. This seems to stand in contrast to the very basic attitude of suggestopedia which fundamental idea can be summarized in the effort to create an interplay between the subconscious, or passive, learning level and the active, conscious learning level which requires an environment characterized by safety, freedom, and for the student a sense of continually feeling competent. However, according to Foucault, the power structures described in the theoretical chapter pervade all of society why it could be stated that suggestopedia also constitutes a system of power. The comparative analysis could therefore give the impression of being somewhat misleading. The study does not result in a distinct answer to the question of whether there is room for suggestopedic practice in traditional school but rather discusses prerequisites and possibilities

The Effect of an Adaptation of the Lozanov Method on Vocabulary Definition RetentionMartin, Barbara Stein, 1947- 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to determine if there is an effect on retention of vocabulary when music and imagery are used, to accelerate learning. As background for the study four brain functioning theories as developed from recent neuroscientific research were explored. These were the theory of right/left cerebral dominance (Sperry & others), triune brain theory (MacLean), taxon and locale long term memory (O'Keefe & Nadel), and holographic memory (Pribram). These four theories all suggest multiple channels of input will increase information retention. The research utilized three conditions: an experimental condition of music plus imagery, an experimental condition of music only, and a no treatment condition.

Abenteuer mit Werner und Roswitha : a multimedia program based on suggestopedic principles for the teaching of German in the first year at universityVan der Merwe, Cornelia Christina 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil (Modern Foreign Languages))--University of Stellenbosch, 2005. / Suggestopedia, as an innovative method of teaching, inter alia, second and foreign languages, has reportedly achieved exceptional results. With the development of this multimedia program it was decided to base the program on suggestopedic principles. In this thesis, I discussed the theory of adult second language acquisition, cognitive learning theory, constructivist learning theory and the consequences these theories have on language teaching. The overview of literature incorporates a description and analysis of Suggestopedia and looks at Suggestopedia from the following perspectives:
• a description of suggestion
• a description of suggestology
• the basic premises of Suggestopedia
• the purpose of Suggestopedia
• the principles of Suggestopedia
• the suggestopedic cycle
• the suggestopedic text
• the classroom module
• the computer program.
The multimedia computer program was developed to enhance the classroom module of the first year students of German at the university. In this thesis, I describe the interface and design of this program in terms of colour, incorporating colour theory, the name of the program, the overall design and the structure of each scene.

Stellenbosch Safari : a multimedia program based on suggestopedic principles for the teaching of Afrikaans to international students at Stellenbosch UniversityTredoux, Francois 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil (Afrikaans and Dutch))—University of Stellenbosch, 2007. / I developed this multimedia computer program for use by international students who want to learn specific vocabulary and sentence structures to help them when dealing with administrative and help desk personnel at Stellenbosch University.
I describe the main late 20th century theories of second and foreign language acquisition, as well as the principles and methodology of Suggestopedia, which the program structure is based on. I give a detailed analysis of the program structure and its contents, as well as recommendations to enhance the program in future iterations.

Sugestopedie jako inspirace pro výuku anglického jazyka v kontextu zájmového vzdělávání dospělých / Suggestopedia as inspiration for English language teaching in the context of interest adult educationMALÍKOVÁ, Andrea January 2016 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the suggestopedical English language teaching in the context of leisure education. Characterizes the interest adult learning as a part of lifelong education, defines its objectives, functions, motivation and language barriers within the adult education. More specifically, it focuses on the alternative method suggestopedia in detail; it examines its origin, development, features and principles. It describes the different stages of learning that forms the characteristic profile of this unconventional method. The empirical part is focused on the suggestopedic course itself. The use of case study helped to understand the features of suggestopedic education, processes and conditions from the point of experiences and attitudes of the course participants, i.e. the advantages and disadvantages of this method.
