Today Namibia is at the crossroads of its independence. The agony of death and destruction that the Namibians have endured for the past 105 years of colonial oppression is about to come to an end and freedom is in sight. The process of transition to independence has already started. On 1 November 1989, the Namibian people will exercise their long-denied right to self-determination by electing their own leaders who. by virtue of being elected by the masses will have the sovereign right to draft the constitution of independent Namibia. This will bring about a new political and socio-economic order. The task before the Namibian people is to seize this historic opportunity and ensure that they join hands to safeguard the revolutionary gains we have made in bringing our country to the threshold of independence. Seizing this opportunity means, first, to register as a voter, and second, to vote and send to the Constituent Assembly men. and women with a revolutionary will, honourable record, vision for a better future, integrity, experience and proven ability to fight for the interests of the broad masses of the Namibian people. Such men and women are to be found in SWAPO. SWAPO has stood tall in the face of formidable odds over the last twenty-nine years of its struggle to free Namibia. Because of this fact. SWAPO had participated in the formulation of Resolution 435 and fought bravely for the last 11 years for its implementation. The motivating force behind this struggle has always been to guarantee that power is given to the Namibian people to decide the future of our country' through free and fair elections. Now that Resolution 435 is being implemented, the Central Committee of SWAPO has the honour to place before the people of Namibia its concrete programme of action in the form of SWAPO’s policy positions on a broad spectrum of political, economic, social and cultural issues. A dissertation submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science to the Faculty of Science, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, 2017 / Transcription factors are proteins that are involved in the regulation of gene expression and are responsible for the tight control of transcription allowing a cell to react to changes in its environment. Transcription factors are thus highly regulated by a variety of mechanisms which include phosphorylation. Forkhead box P2 (FOXP2) is a transcription factor expressed in multiple tissues during embryonic development. FOXP2 like other FOX proteins contains a DNA binding domain known as the forkhead domain (FHD). The effect of phosphorylation of serine 557 in the FHD on the structure and DNA binding was done using a glutamate mutant (to mimic phosphorylation) and an alanine mutant (as a control). Structural characterisation was performed using size exclusion chromatography (SEC), intrinsic fluorescence and far-UV circular dichroism. The effect of phosphorylation on DNA binding was observed using electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). Far-UV circular dichroism and intrinsic fluorescence of the mutants and wild type did not reveal any significant secondary or tertiary structural changes. SEC however revealed a decrease in dimerisation propensity in the Ser557 mutants when compared the wild type (WT). EMSA revealed that DNA binding of S557E is only observed at protein concentrations 40 times in excess of the DNA. DNA binding of the WT and S557A mutants is observed at 5 times and 20 times excess protein respectively. However, using ITC no DNA binding is observed for either S557E or S557A FOXP2 FHD. Thus, it is possible that phosphorylation of serine 557 in the FOXP2 FHD could be a mechanism for inactivation of FOXP2. / XL2017

The purpose of this work is to examine the history of curriculum in the seminary program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1912–2016. This work will define curriculum eras, explore the historical setting of each period, and outline the key figures and their educational philosophy. It will also detail the major seminary manuals produced in each period, as well as the overarching curricular philosophy behind each era.
