Mediální výchova na školách - kriticko-analytický či produkční přístup / Media education at schools-critical-analytic or production approach

The aim of this diploma thesis, which is entitled "Media Education in schools - critical-analytic or production approach", is to map the current state of practice of media education in a sample of secondary schools (gymnasiums) in central Bohemia. Our goal is to provide readers with broader theoretical insight into the concept of media literacy (as a goal of any media education), to capture a brief history of development of the perspective on the role of media education, as well as to examine how media education is incorporated within the Czech system of secondary education, and also to reflect on its possible forms of implementation. Last but not least, the intent of the thesis is to describe two basic approaches to media education, both of which are directed to development of media literacy. Our research led by a combination of questionnaires and interviews with educators suppose to be used as a tool that should help us to bridge the theory with an image of factual practice. The research part primarily aims to provide insight into framework of the current practice of teaching media education in secondary schools in central Bohemia, and through interpretation of the main remarks points to (at least) basic issues which teachers of media education must deal with.

This diploma thesis focuses on Media Education in English language classes. The first section introduces media in general and deals with media education and its place in Framework Educational Programme for grammar schools. Next part monitors the ways of using media education in other school subjects and describes methodology itself. On the basis of this knowledge some of the methodological books are analysed. The last part of the first section introduces advertisements and their main characteristics. The second section presents a project of media education which is called Advertisement and Slogan. The project was prepared to be used in three English lessons. The structure, aims and methods of each of them as well as lesson plans and the process of each lesson are described in detail. The final part is devoted to students? and teacher?s evaluations.

The diploma thesis "Cross-Curricular topics in the teaching of mathematics at primary schools" describes possible ways of involving personality and social education, education of a democratic citizen, education towards thinking in European and global contexts, multicultural education, environmental education and media education in primary school mathematics. The thesis is divided into a theoretical, practical and an evaluative section. The theoretical part of this thesis analyses domestic and foreign findings on cross-curricular topics, outlines the historical development of the curriculum in relation to this issue and characterizes the educational area of "Mathematics and its application RVP ZV". It further focuses on interconnecting particular cross-curricular subjects with mathematics and examines their integration in current mathematics schoolbooks. The practical part contains proposals of activities (methodical activity sheets) connecting the area of "Mathematics and its application" with cross-curricular topics. It further presents organizational teaching forms and work methods used in activities including their descriptions. The last part evaluates the application of the activities in practice in terms of the development of pre-assigned mathematical skills and knowledge and the involvement of thematic units of cross-curricular topics.

Abstract This PhD thesis reflects the requirements for changes in education related to the current needs of digitization of all areas of society. On the structure of newly required skills the emphasis is put on the ability to work with information and digital technologies, the development of critical thinking, creativity and the capability to solve problems. The presented PhD thesis considers above mentioned issue from the position of visual and media studies which penetrate into education through the educational field of Art education and the cross-curricular topic of media education. Its aim is to map the intersections of art and Media education on a theoretical and curricular level and to examine the conditions of their interconnection in educational practice. Etika v mediální výchově v rodině: Jak se čeští rodiče staví k soukromí svých dětí na internetu / Ethics in parental mediation: How Czech parents approach the privacy of their childrenon the Internet

This diploma thesis deals with the ethical aspect of parental mediation and children's privacy on the internet. The aim of the work is to, using a qualitative research, assess how Czech parents perceive the privacy of their children on the internet, what ethical boundaries their media- educational approach has and what moral dilemmas they may possibly face. Furthermore, what Czech parents think of technical restrictions in the form of apps, software, locks and covert monitoring of the child. For data collection, the author chose in-depth interviews with parents of children aged 9-17. The work is divided into theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part engages in placing parental mediation in a broader context, and discusses in detail styles of parental mediation, with emphasis on the restrictive approach, its technical tools and covert monitoring. Subsequently, it deals with the topic of ethics, privacy and trust in parental mediation. In the empirical part, the author presents and justifies the chosen methodology, sample, and describes the progress of data collection. Role školních knihoven v procesu rozvoje mediální gramotnosti v České republice / Role of school libraries in development of media literacy in the Czech Republic

This diploma thesis examines the possibilities of involving school librarians and information specialists in the process of growth in media literacy at Czech schools. The theoretical part of the thesis briefly introduces the general issues of media education and media literacy in our country and abroad, while the practical part of the thesis based on its own research, focuses on a particular target group - Prague secondary schools ("gymnázium"). Using a questionnaire and five case studies conducted at selected secondary schools in Prague, it conducts a survey of the current situation of implementation of media education in the Czech Republic. The end of the thesis deals with some ideas of how to involve graduates of the Institute of Information Studies and Librarianship in teaching media education according to the American model of a "teacher librarian".
