This thesis outlines the current state of adult media literacy and education in the Czech Republic. It defines basic concepts, present and historical approaches of media literacy and its anchoring in the Czech legal order and international documents. It further focuses on current phenomena of media world and selected media institutions involved in media literacy development. The analytical part compares and evaluates Pan-European and Czech research aimed at measuring the level of media literacy of adults. The aim of this thesis is to explore the educational aspect of the documentary film V síti (Caught in the Net) and its impact on the Czech education system. The theoretical section of the thesis focuses mainly on presenting the topic of the film - child abuse on the internet. It deals with the topic of child safety on the internet and the context of the Czech school system. The thesis has the potential to be used in the classroom by those teachers who wish engage with this topic and educate both themselves and their students as it includes a whole chapter of recommended educational projects and programs suitable for education of second level students. The research section of the thesis deals with those teachers who saw a version of the film edited to be suitable for children, V Síti: Za školou, specifically their opinions on this project as an educational tool. The qualitative research posed a question: How did the film influence the second level of elementary school teachers' approach to child safety on the internet and its teaching? The data gathering was conducted through semi-structured interviews with nine elementary school teachers. The thesis deals with the history and the present of waldorf schools founded by Rudolf Steiner. Also describes media literacy with an emphasis on new media. It covers the way how the new media education is embedded in the Czech educational system. As a particular example served curriculum of the school subject Information and communication technology of the waldorf secondary school in Prague. The thesis also describes the way of media education in Germany. In the second part of this thesis can be found an evaluation of the questionnaire made in secondary waldorf schools in Prague and Semily which had to learn the status quo of (new) media literacy of the students and their relationship with modern technologies. The end of the thesis deals with the suggestion of improvement of the tuition based on the German model.

This dissertation follows the topic of media and visual communication with relations to art. The theoretical part explains the usage and influence of such medias in the past and present, the communication between people and their visual statements, their psychological effects in connection to the manipulation of the picture. The practial part on the other hand, further explains the precise catastrophical events in the news and their overall effect in connection to personal explenations of said catastrophy. The last, Didaktical part, goes into detail on the transformation of catastrophies and possibility of applicating the medial education into the general creative uprbringing. The presented dissertation addresses main issues of film education. It deals with the fact, that film has become a subject of education in the Czech Republic and other European countries in the last years. Thus, it has also had its place in the Czech Framework Education Programme for elementary and grammar schools (gymnasia) since 2010, as Film and Audiovisual Education, a complementary subject of the Art and Culture educational area. This dissertation inserts this actuality into the historical context and reflects on the situation, that calls for a reconsideration of curricular matters of both artistic and media area: the importance of film as an artistic form, that has been an irreplaceable component of human culture for more than hundred years, as well as the omnipresence of the audiovisual medium in the society. The dissertation treats complex educational goals of Film and Audiovisual Education: it approaches the film education as an opportunity to develop so called film literacy and illuminates its meaning; it pursues the development of important personal traits of the pupils that the film teaching can bring. Master thesis Media education of elementary school children, was written because of the need to analyze the current situation of media education. Media education at Czech schools is based on normative materials released by the government - Rámcový vzdělávací program and Doporučené očekávané výstupy. The theoretical part of this study introduces these the above mentioned materials and other legislative documents. It also brings a summary of historical development of media education and a list of the most important education materials, which were written in the past twenty years. For more than ten years Czech schools have been influenced by normative materials, which define how media education should be taught. The aim of this thesis is to focus on primary school children at the age of 9 to 11 years. A practical part of this study brings a detailed look at one class in a Prague based school. Interviews with pupils were based on outputs from normative materials Doporučené očekávané výstupy. The author's aim was to verify if children's knowledge of media corresponds to the said materials. Part of the in-depth interviews are samples of audiovisual materials and other activities.

This thesis Development of Medial Education and Literacy in Germany presents formation and progresive development of medial education in our neighbouring state. Firstly the basic concepts are explained, then description of Medial eduacation evolution is following. This thesis presents also current state of medial education: which way it tends and how it is practised in particular grade of education. The practical part ilustrates findings from the qualitative research: the experts from Germany responded three fields of questions: general introduction into medial education, medial education at school and non-school medial education.

This thesis is focused on the impact of media literacy in terms of the ability of high school students to interpret political advertisement. In the part of this thesis the reader will be introduced into the concepts of modern democracy and mass media as its important part especially, within the context of politics, in the pre-election period. The reader will be provided an insight into the issue of the influence of mass media on citizens who are exposed to the products of political marketing. Due to the focus on high school students, this thesis mentions research domestic one as well as international that puts together terms as politics- media-teenagers. The second part of this thesis is designed as a research aimed at the impact of media literacy on the students' skills to analyze a political advertisement as well as their civic attitudes. The research is conducted as a qualitative comparison of statements of the analytical abilities of students who took part in media literacy course with those who did not. The paper addresses issues of media education in blind high-school students, especially in the topical context of digital media. The theoretical part devotes to problems of education of visually impaired persons. Next, concern the subsumption of media education as a cross- sectional subject into Czech primary and high-schools education. This part is also concerned with specific digital media and extensive opportunities of its utilization for visually impaired persons. In the experimental part of the paper, discrete components of digital literacy of sightless high-school students are analysed. The method of focused (semi-structured) interviews was selected. Interviews were executed with ten visually impaired high-school students and subsequently analysed with the help of qualitative content analysis. The aim of the paper is to give a notice on dependence of blind people to digital media and its specifics and, in this conjunction, emphasise the importance of media education.

Messages delivered by the media are often used as a source of authentic texts in language teaching, yet there is not a sufficient amount of works dealing with the connection between media education and language teaching. The theoretical part of this thesis, therefore, tries to describe this relationship from the perspective of media studies, linguistics and language teaching methodology. The aim of this work is to create teaching materials incorporating media education into teaching English as a foreign language. The materials consist of worksheets for students and methodological support for teachers.
