The theme of the diploma work is the education to media literacy. It concerns the common project linking to diploma work which theme is education to communication competency. Basic principles the work is based on are pragmatic pedagogy and project education. First part of the work is focusing on theory. The content of this work is dealing with the problem of media education. Second part of the diploma work is dealing with education to media literacy. Game and cooperation activities are emphasized which serve to train the interactive forms of communication. The endeavour is to develop the skills such as looking up, gaining, processing, evaluation and using of information which comes from media (newspapers, radio, television and internet). The component of this part is proposal of structure of practical projects for 6. up to 9. grade of the basic school.

The diploma thesis "Media Education in grammar school - Objectives and Reality" is focused on the introduction of a new topic in Czech schools - media education - as a part of the new reforms of the education system. The first part of the thesis defines the concept of media literacy in the context of different types of new literacies. Media education presents particular ways of how to increase media literacy. The thesis deals with the historical development of media education, various approaches to the media education movement, conditions abroad and questions under debate of this domain. The first part also illustrates different forms of media education in the Czech Republic, the new reform of media system and its formation, actual status of media education and its conception in mandatory documents. The second part of the thesis is empirical research that used the qualitative method focus group in discussion with students of grammar school. The research was executed in four groups. Students in two of the groups are passing at this moment subject of media issues, students in the other two groups never went over this subject.

This diploma thesis deals with the problematics of new media in the field of media education in the second stage of basic education. In the first part of the thesis, history of social media is presented. Their influence and conduct in society have changed with their mass growth. The development of media production presents risks which need to be faced through complex education of society; development of media literacy, digital literacy, critical thinking, and reading is therefore crucial. The theoretical part of this thesis describes how the age group of lower secondary education students utilizes media. Moreover, the reader is introduced to risks which adolescents face online, and subsequently, means of preparing students for these risks are devised. The second part of the thesis consists of three projects dealing with media literacy and critical thinking advancement. Students are learning to critically asses media messages and they examine all factors which influence message production. Furthermore, the students work with visual image material in a similar way, and they reflect on their own media and digital technology usage.

The main purpose of the thesis Mediální výchova na gymnáziích pohledem českých a německých pedagogů is to compare the conditions, practice, and goals of media studies at high schools in Prague and Leipzig and provide inspiration for both sides through this comparison. The theoretical part focuses on the role of the teacher, introduces educational concepts, and describes the historical development of media education and mentions of it in official documents both in Germany and the Czech Republic. The practical section of the thesis is dedicated to the teachers and their concrete opinions and experience with media education collected with the help of a series of questionnaires and half-structured interviews.

Nová média jako téma mediální výchovy / New media as a topic of media education

The thesis deals with media education with special reference to new media. Media education has been a part of Czech curicula since 2004 and schools struggle with how to cope with it. In past few years new media came out to be a significant element of media education. New media are important part of everyone's life in informational society. Therefore it is neccessary to widen media literacy to new media as well. Children are growing with new media and they take them as a natural part of their lives. On the contrary teachers very often do not need new media and use them marginally. The author of the thesis tries to map how teachers and children are facing new media not only in media education but even in their lives. The first part of the thesis describes basic elements of the issue - informational society, media literacy, media education and new media. One chapter deals with media education in the Czech Republic, its past and present. The second part of it describes the methodology of the research with its advantages and disadvantages. The main part of the thesis contains a mixed research combining two methods (questionnaries and in-depth interviews). The first part of the Thesis focuses on the theoretical knowledge of the psychological development of the child, reader literacy and media literacy and media education as one of the Curricula program for primary education. The second part is a brief analysis of magazine for primary school children. Subsequently, the work focuses longest stemming magazine for primary school children - Mateřídouška magazine. In the analysis are used knowledge presented in the theoretical part of the Thesis. Emphasis is placed upon the analysis primarily on the didactic potential Mateřídouška. The aim of the Thesis is finding if Mateřídouška magazine could be used in the implementation of media education at primary school.

Analýza metodických materiálů k výuce mediální výchovy v ČR / Analysis of teaching materials for teaching media literacy in CR

Diploma thesis deals with the content analysis of the only media education textbook, which was published in 2009. This textbook represents a teaching material for secondary school students in the Czech Republic. After the theoretical background of this topic and presentation of the curricular reform of the Czech educational systém in 2007, the work focuses on the content analysis and comparison of the textbook and recommended outputs of the Czech curricular framework. Moreover, it deals with improving core competencies of the students while teaching the media education. The didactic content of the textbook is the most concerned thing. For this kind of research the qualitative content analysis method has been chosen, using the Bloom's taxonomy of the educational goals (primarily a cognitive domain). The analysis deals with the tasks in the textbook, which are given to the students. The result of the research reflects the emphasis on memorizing data, moreover, it shows the trend of simple evaluation which do not consider the previous deeper analysis. This fact is consistent with the opinion of many other curriculum content critics in Czech schools.

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of media education as a part of foreign language education at Czech schools. The thesis is divided into three major part - the theoretical background with analysis of national curriculum and school curricula, the practical part - qualitative research of teacher's opinions and quantitative research of student's opinions on media education. The third part offers description of activities and handouts that can be used in English classes to improve the level of media literacy. It proved that the connection of media education and foreign language classes is not indicated in the Frame Educational Programme, however it gives the possibility to school to integrate the topic into any subject. Based on the analysis of the school educational programmes of selected school it was found out that schools do integrate media education into many subjects including foreign languages. Most of the foreign language teachers claimed that they integrate media education into their classes. However, they are limited by certain barriers - primary school teachers especially by low language knowledge. Overall, the main problem mentioned was lack of encouragement from the authorities connected to lack of proficiency in media education of the educators. The pupils welcome media education...

The theoretical part will describe various definitions of media literacy as a result of media education. It will explore the development of media education in Europe and in the Czech Republic and it will analyze various approaches to the realization of media education. The thesis will also mention some researches made in last years in the Czech Republic that dealt with media education or media literacy. The practical part will continue after the theoretical part and it will deal with the realization of media education at Grammar School in Trinec. It will not just be about simple description of the condition of media education at that school. The goal is to focus on factors that come into the process of negotiation over the form of media education.
