Implementation And Evaluation of Gamification Elements In An E-learning Platform For Engineering Education / Implementation och utvärdering av gamification element i en E-learning plattform för ingenjörsutbildning

Ahlqvist, Erica January 2021 (has links)
E-learning and online courses are widely used today, with different platforms being available for the user. When implementing and evaluating such a platform relevant research is required, therefore a pre-study was conducted. The pre-study showed that the platforms used at Linköpings University have a variety of available platform of which the teachers can use, however, some of there lack the features and it is therefore common for teachers to use more than one platform for a course. The goal of the thesis has been to answer the research question and to do so a platform was implemented, with focus on the gamification elements. The thesis answered the research question through the implementation of the platform and the user test. The user test was held on the target audience. The participants of the user test were faced with a short course on the developed platform. The test results show that the combination of gamification elements used motivated the participants towards the presented course and the assignments within it. During the user test a questionnaire, based on Intrinsic Motivation Inventory, was used. The result from this showed that the platform and its gamification elements increased the enjoyment, interest, perceived competence and effort towards the course.

Dynamic Synthesis of Pilot Actions for Multiple Faults during Flight

Nilsson, Louise, Rahm, Malin January 2022 (has links)
In today’s JAS 39 Gripen E there is a central system that collects all failures that occur in the aircraft. Complex failures often generate multiple simultaneous alerts. This makes it difficult for the pilot to get an overview of the active alerts. Each alert has a number of actions that the pilot must handle. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and evaluate if it is possible to dynamically determine what actions must be handled by the pilot, regardless of the alert situation. In addition, flight safety must not be impaired, which requires that the system must have high reliability. High reliability means that the system must perform deterministic calculations for both simple and more complex problems. An iterative design process was used to develop a dynamic synthesis. Prototypes were developed based on feedback and 3 different machine learning algorithms were tested for the data classification. After the final prototype was considered complete an evaluation study was made on 6 different test persons. The result of the evaluation was that it is good to use color to amplify important information. The test persons also mentioned that the concept of a dynamic synthesis could decrease the workload for the pilots. To decrease the workload, the action texts need to be prioritized and displayed in the correct order. This includes rewriting the action text. For the merged list to be understandable, each action text must be self-explanatory.

Investigating the Improvement of Healthcare Rostering by Training a Neural Network on Personal Preference

Hartman, Frida January 2022 (has links)
During recent years, the covid-19 pandemic has shed light on the working conditions for many healthcare workers. These essential people have many aspects in their work life that could be improved, one of which being fair working hours that fit their personal life. By having a schedule that is fit for each employee’s needs and preferences, work-life balance could be improved, and employee turnover reduced. Plain Complex is a Finnish startup company that has developed an AI-based solution for scheduling healthcare personnel in an efficient and fair manner. Their solution takes into account some of the personal preferences of employees, however, it could be improved by taking into account more of the implicit and complex preferences of employees. The aim of this thesis work is to investigate how this could be done using an artificial neural network model (ANN). A feasibility study was conducted, and several ANN models were implemented and tested to find a possible solution. The results showed that it is possible to some extent to find a method for modelling the personal preferences of a person in regard to their schedule. However, the impact that the implemented solution might have on the model created by Plain Complex is limited in its current state. The results showed that the model is able to predict a person’s preferences of a roster to a certain degree, especially if those preferences are similar to what is generally considered to be a good or bad roster.

Artifact-Free Image Upscaling : An Evaluation of an Artifact-Free Color Interpolation Algorithm with Respect to Visual Quality

Magnusson, Arvid, Sandahl, Algot January 2022 (has links)
The vast number of different sizes and resolutions for digital displays today means that images regularly have to be upscaled or downscaled to fit the current screen. This scaling is almost always done using interpolation. This thesis evaluates an interpolation method presented by Jens Ogniewski in terms of how it compares to classic interpolation methods concerning visual quality and how it behaves in different color spaces. Both an objective and a subjective evaluation were conducted. The objective evaluation applied three different image quality measures to the upscaled images. The subjective evaluation consisted of an online test where a forced-choice pairwise-comparison methodology was employed. Additionally, the method was implemented as a plugin for the GIMP. The objective and subjective results show a relatively good correlation and suggest that the performance of Ogniewski’s algorithm depends on the image it is applied to. It works well for graphical images, like pixel art and game assets, but it can sometimes have a blocky appearance when applied to photo images. Furthermore, it is concluded that upscaling in the sRGB color space produces the visually best result of the compared color spaces.

Felix, Dimberg, Sjögren Larsson, Emilia January 2018 (has links)
The continuously development of online shopping has increased the requirements for the ease of use of web pages. The purpose of this study was to investigate if different layouts and components on the payment site of e-commerce sites could affect customers' purchase intentions. Previous research identifies reasons to online shopping cart abandonment and one main factor was that customers abandon the website at the checkout stage. Interface on web pages can be divided into human and computer factors where the human factors are those who contribute with satisfaction for the user and computer factors aims to the elements that provides functionality. To narrow down the problem the focus of interface in this study references to the computer factors. Ignoring all the human factors such as color, graphics and animations that make web pages fun and appealing and focus on the functionality of the checkout process. To solve this issue this study was divided into a qualitative interview which then was validated towards the quantitative result from a A/B-test . The test compared five different layouts with different components to specify which ones the potential customers had a either good or bad impact of. By evaluating the checkout pages of the biggest e-commerce fashion retailers on the swedish net market and designing four different checkout pages with different components and a fifth was made intentionally disturbing to create different reactions from the test subjects. The result that followed showed that the computer factors of the checkout process of an e-commerce site have both positive and negative effects on the purchase intentions of the user. The negative effects had a bigger influence of the feelings towards the site than the positive ones. The two most recurring components that the respondents did not like were the ones that had upselling ads and login requirement.  It was harder to find common components that were positive because the test users had much more varied opinions on that point.

Källkritik i en värld av ansiktsanimering och talmanipulation / Source criticism in a world of facial animation and speech manipulation

Andersson López, Lisa, Lallerstedt Blomqvist, Siri January 2018 (has links)
Recent software innovations have made it easy to manipulate video and voice recordings. Thus the intentions, the software could easily be misused and become a powerful tool for those who deliberately tries to misinform the public through manipulated information. As the manipulated information become more sophisticated, the demands on the journalists’ ability to tell real representations from manipulated will increase. This study explores how prepared some of the leading Swedish news outlets are for the advancing technology. Through semi structured interviews have experts in the field expressed what kind of resources the journalists need to detect manipulated sources, and then have three editorial offices responded whether they possess or are prepared to acquire such tools and competence. The conclusion is that the targeted news outlets did not have the full capability to detect both manipulated video and voice recordings in-house at the time the study was made.

Framgångsfaktorer inom digital livsmedelshandel : Samsyn och skillnader mellan konsumenter och aktörer / Success factors in online grocery shopping : Concord and difference between commercial actors and consumers

Lindroos, Miriam January 2019 (has links)
In this research the differences and consensus between the consumers and the actors perception of the crucial success factors within Swedish online grocery shopping are being analyzed. Online grocery shopping is one of the fastest growing markets in Sweden. The online grocery shopping market encompasses both pure digital players and major hybrid actors with a combination of online and offline sales. The main result in this report show that consumers and actors agree on some of the main issues even though the actors seems to overrate the importance of making the webpages personalized with each customers favorites. At the same time they seems to underrate the importance of keeping the price at the same level as physical stores and the importance of favorable membership. There is consensus on the importance of an easy-to-use webpage and home delivery being the crucial form of delivery. It is of greatest importance that the actors develop strategies that make them relevant and attractive to consumers, competitive in the market and also profitable. The market is in a very interesting phase right now, experiencing high growth and there is a lot of potential for successful actors. Big strategic decisions and large investments are being made, but as this research suggests not always on things that really could make a difference for the consumers and could make them loyal to one actor and give that actor a greater part of their spend.
