<p>Aim: The aim for this study of Swedish daily press is to see how the musical reporting is structured for the newspapers I have chosen to analyse. My main purpose is to investigate how the newspapers reporting are distributed between artists who belong to either a major record company or an independent record company. With this research I want to find out if there are any economic backgrounds to the content and if the reporting is equal to the market production.</p><p>Method/Material: For this study I have studied, by quantitative research, every piece of musical reporting in seven daily newspapers for two weeks. Through thorough research I have determined the belonging of every article’s record company. I have compared the newspapers with each other to see how the reporting differs. I have also collected information concerning the economic aspects of the music business to investigate if the reporting is equal to the market production.</p><p>Main results:</p><p>- The representation of major and independent record companies in Swedish press is distributed as the following: 60 % Major and 40 % Independent.</p><p>- The national press and regional press both show a distorted picture of the record company representation while the evening press and free press show a more truthful representation according to the market share holdings.</p><p>- There are signs of a scope economic structure in Bonnier which cannot be fully verified.</p>

The Case of E-books in Sweden’s Media Industry : A case study on what potential factors that could influence the development of e-books in the Swedish media industry.Forsberg, Hugo, Lundström, Elias January 2020 (has links)
This research intends to address potential factors concerning Sweden’s poor distribution of e-books (electronic books) by using theories such as digitization, media economy, and the theoretical framework of the production of culture perspective. To examine what these factors are and how they affect the development of the e-book in Sweden, we will answer the following research questions: 1. What potential factors could have influenced the e-book development? and 2. How may these factors affect the development of e-books in Sweden? The chosen method was the case study approach, with the contribution of qualitative interviews and multiple data sources. The research conducted five interviews with actors within the Swedish book industry that were recruited by e-mail and through snowball sampling. The interviewees provided the research with qualitative answers, as well as additional data sources, such as reports, sales statistics, and legal documents. The secondary data enlarged the knowledge concerning the phenomenon of e-books, thus made it more manageable to examine. The result of the case study identified four potential factors that actors believe could be the reason concerning the e-books' lack of success in Sweden: cultural values, technological development, the libraries' role, the lack of commercial actors, and sales tax. In conclusion, the study show that several factors may have affected the development of e-books in Sweden. However, the research cannot distinguish one sole factor that explains its poor distribution.

State subsidizing private media in Republic of Moldova : A potential way to correct media market failure and promote Quality of Government? / Statligt stöd till privata medier i Moldavien : Ett potentiellt sätt att korrigera mediemarknadens misslyckande och förbättra styrningskvaliteten?Savina, Diana January 2017 (has links)
2017 has been described as a decisive year for the Republic of Moldova. Following years of economic and political turmoil, it is more urgent than ever before that crucial reforms are not only adopted, but fully implemented – primarily within justice, media and banking sectors. Using a theory of impartial institutions and two central theories of state intervention into media markets, this counterfactual deductive thesis sets out to investigate arguments for and against a system of state subsidies to private media as a tool to increase Quality of Government in Moldova. Through analyses of qualitative interviews with six country experts within relevant fields as well as secondary data, the conclusion of this single case study is primarily confirming previous research indicating on the one hand, that a more social responsible role of the state within Eastern European media markets is a realistic future path, on the other hand that it can hardly be expected soon. Further, the possibility of media to improve Quality of Government is perceived as low – even with sufficient financial resources – due to lack of other prerequisites such as accessibility, accountability and responsiveness; as well as low scores on crucial indicators such as corruption, law and order and quality of bureaucracy. Just like democratic institutions can be destabilizing under wrong circumstances, state subsidies given to wrong beneficiaries within a media market, could undermine democratic legitimacy and accountability. Both findings of previous research – related to state governance on the one hand and media governance on the other – are perceived as particularly relevant in this study of Moldova. However, there have been promising signs lately on economic structural reforms improving the conditions for civil society and media in Moldova, indicating for reevaluating the potential of state support in the future. Further, I recommend greater emphasis put on the distinction between political and non-political owners when examining the effects of media ownership concentration and its effects on governments and societies at large.
