The last chapter of the thesis provides an analysis of the current possibilities of secondary education of students with mental disabilities and possibilities of work placement in the Zlín region.

The master thesis deals with the problem of lifelong learning of adults with mental disability in Activation Centre courses. The aim of this thesis is to introduce the pilot project of Activation Centres as one of the lifelong learning posibilities for adults with mental disability. The mental retardation and adulthood of people with mental disability are briefly defined. The common system of education of people with mental disability in the Czech Republic is described with the emphasis on crucial area of lifelong learning. Activation Centres are defined in detail. The survey, which is monitoring the circumstances of existing education in Activation Centres from the lecturers'and methodists'point of view, is introduced in the conclusion. An essential part of this thesis comprises of the interviews with courses participants themselves. The diploma thesis deals with the topic of special education. It deals with the definition of basic knowledge in interpersonal communication and speech development in general, and especially in symptomatic speech disorders in people with mental disabilities. In context of communication, it presents four language levels with focus on the pragmatic language and the social-use communication. This thesis connects knowledge of intact speech development with speech development in children with intellectual disabilities, and knowledge of the pragmatic language level with the specifics of pragmatics of people with intellectual disabilities. The research of this thesis is produced by the interpretation of the results obtained by using the evaluation material which was created for this thesis - it is based on theoretical knowledge and inspired by evaluation materials of other authors. The research surveys the level of pragmatic language as a social use of communication among people using residential social services, specifically one home for people with disabilities. The conclusion of the thesis is the evaluation of the partial parts of pragmatic language level in persons with intellectual disabilities and recommendations for practice in improving the deficiencies on this level. This thesis examines how can Montessori teaching aids be used for educating persons with Down syndrome. It describes Down syndrome and mental disability that is associated with it, listing also the options for educating persons with Down syndrome by development stage. It provides an overview of Montessori pedagogics, its history, concepts and principles, and its status in the Czech Republic. It classifies Montessori pedagogics in terms of general didactics theory, and introduces Montessori therapy. The author connects Montessori to other human- centric didactic and pedagogical systems, such as structured teaching, global reading approach, Reuven Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment, sensory activation, basal stimulation, and psychobiography. She explains the role of teaching aids in the Montessori system and describes the materials she is using in her lessons for persons with Down syndrome. The aim and structure of such lessons are described, together with how to work with clients and their families. The work deals with the specifics of interactions between mentally disabled clients in the residential facilities providing institutional care, in particular with the relations between clients and social workers/carers. It analyses the role of interpersonal relations for individual´s inherent dignity, describes cultural and religious sources which recognise dignity of the mentally disabled in the contemporary society. It also strives to explain healthy ways of communication as an important and integral part of social interactions and how such methods can help to prevent conflicts in residential facilities. There is identification of risks of asymmetric relations between clients and carers due to the organisational hierarchy and the relevant changes brought about in the course of the deinstitutionalisation process. It provides various aspects of the relationship between employees and clients in traditional and alternative forms of residential facilities which in this particular case are represented by the Arch and Camphill communities. The Conclusions provide a summary of risks and benefits resulting from friendly attitude to mentally disabled clients and risks posed by the unequal and unnatural relations in residential facilities.

This thesis deals with the involvement of people with intellectual disabilities in a work activity, whether in employment or occupational therapy and the impact of this activity on their own self mentally handicapped person. The work is focused on the description of the circumstances that accompany the current issues of persons with intellectual disabilities and their integration into society as part of their participation in the labour market. Further, there is also prepared a theme of self-concept and its description in terms of humanistic psychology. The very aim of the research work is to determine what area of life of persons with intellectual disabilities is changed the most after their entry into employment or after the beginning of the execution of vocational rehabilitation. How these changes influence the self-identity of these persons. The research part will bring the survey of the most important areas of self-concept changes that individuals acquired after the entry into employment or occupational therapy.

Etická dilemata procesu transformace pobytového zařízení sociální péče / Ethical dilemmas of process transformation of residential social care facility

The thesis deals with ethical dilemmas that the author identified during the process of transformation of residency social care facilities. The aim of the work is to theoretically describe dilemmas identified and subsequently outline the procedure for their solution. The aim of the core part of the work, where is selected dilemma discussed using two ethical theories, is to point out the way these theories can help to solve the ethical dilemmas. The work is divided into five parts, the first of which defines the concepts, the process of transformation and the specifics of the target group of persons with mental disabilities. In the second part emphasises the role of the social worker in dealing with ethical dilemmas and the author generally deals with ethical problems and dilemmas from several points of view and addresses the question of responsibility of a social worker for the ethically-based decision in the specific situation of transformation. The third section describes the specific ethical dilemmas that have been identified during the transformation process, including identifying possible solutions. In the fourth part is the one selected ethical dilemma discussed with the aid of two ethical theories, deontology and consequentialism. In the final fifth part, the discussion, is thinking about benefits and the real possibilities of using ethical theories in social work practice and their meaningful link.

Možnosti komunikace dětí s dětskou mozkovou obrnou / Communication Possibilities of Children with Infantile Cerebral Palsy

The aim of this thesis is to attempt to summarize what communication possibilities children suffering from a serious form of infantile cerebral palsy have, to describe them and possibly to clarify what exactly restricts these possibilities. The thesis also tries to answer the question in what way the communication of these individuals differs from the communication of intact persons. The core of the thesis resides in a theoretical exposition which deals - among others - with the communication process and its verbal and non-verbal parts, the diagnostic characterization of the infantile cerebral palsy and the impaired communication ability in symptomatic speech disorders which are associated with this disability. It describes how especially mobility impairment and mental retardation are reflected in the way and possibilities of communication. Special attention is paid to methods of alternative and augmentative communication which can be used as a therapy in the stimulation of the development of communication and speech skills, and which very often represent one of few possible ways of communicating for persons with this disability. Presented dissertation thesis deals with mentally disabled adolescents who are partially grown up in children's homes and in children's homes with school. The discussed topic is interdisciplinary and multi-layered. The aim of this thesis is to find out, describe and analyze what fulfils everyday life of adolescents with a mental disability and a marginal condition. The thesis also describes what these adolescents experience, what they encounter with, what they imagine in regards with their own future in the context of their life in children's homes. Multidisciplinary focus of the theoretical part of the thesis approaches adolescence as an evolutionary period in one's life and is based on work of Czech and foreign authors of evolutionary and social psychology. Adolescence is also considered as a period of potential risk connected with behavioural disorders which can cause child's placement in institutional education. The meaning of education is approached not only from the philosophical but also from the theoretical point of view.
