PRÁTICAS CORPORAIS ALTERNATIVAS: POSSIBILIDADES NO UNIVERSO DO ALUNO COM DEFICIENCIA MENTAL / ALTERNATIVE CORPORAL PRACTICES: POSSIBILITIES IN THE UNIVERSE OF A MENTALLY DISABLED STUDENT

Zanella, ângela Kemel 23 March 2012 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Inserted into the line of research in Special Education, this work aims at investigating the contribution of Alternative Corporal Practice classes to its learning and development of mentally disabled students. It was characterized by a multicase study of descriptive nature and qualitative approach, which included three students with mental disability, enrolled in regular classes in Elementary School, Municipal School from Santa Maria, RS, from September to December of 2011. The school chosen for this research belongs to the east region of Santa Maria, and the subjects of this research were selected according to the inclusion criteria: Agate, Topaz and Emerald. Two weekly interventions were realized with each student, besides one hour of observation in the classroom, with each subject from the research. The instruments used were: the identification sheet from each student, descriptive opinion made by the researcher in the end of each intervention, field journal which collected information from the observations in the Physical Education classes, talking to the students principal, teachers and parents, and descriptive opinion made by the student s teachers, carried out in the first and the last day of the interventions. The first impressions about the school and the context of the subjects made the researcher worried. How can we change this reality? Would it be possible to realize the study and observe some kind of cognitive and motor improvement? The results were divided into three subtitles: Learning and Development of a Mentally Disabled student from ACPs: elements that facilitate the acquisition of higher psychological functions ; Contributions to Corporal Image and to communicative aspects from the study s subjects ; Acquisition of higher psychological functions of the mentally disabled student: possibilities from the Social-Interaction theory of Levy S. Vygotsky . Although this work has some new topics, with few studies and insights, it is a study that reinforces this new paradigm within the school context, which reveals that is possible to make progress in this field, being one more possibility in the universe of a mentally disabled student. The ACPs can be differential tools to promote inclusion and integration of MD students in the classroom and in the society. The development and learning of these students depends on the deep connection between student and teacher, goals and tasks, language and signs, school and community.

The theoretical methodology basis looks at the Historical and Critical Pedagogy and its fundamentals. It has been investigated the literacy by ways of writing samples, produced from a list of words dictated by the researcher, the writing of their name and by oral questions about their knowledge of personal data, such as their full name and date of birth. The investigation was produced with students of two special schools, from a municipality located in the interior of the São Paulo state. The results show that the students enrolled for more than five years didn’t appropriate themselves of the system of alphabetical writing, necessary knowledge for learning and academical and social development. They also review that the special school doesn’t have a pedagogical planning that act in the promotion of knowledge and that demonstrate possibilities of advancement of those students. The research looks into offering elements for the analysis of a reality ruled in a model of philanthropic special education, in which will result in the school and social exclusion of private subjects of knowledge appropriation.

Specifika práce v chráněných dílnách a možnosti jejich provozu v ČR a USA / Specificity of work in sheltered workshops and possibilities of their services in the Czech republic and USA.

JINDROVÁ, Zdeňka January 2007 (has links)
Taking care of people with disabilities is dated back to history. Nowadays there are many ways how to take care, socialize and integrate people with special needs. For people with some handicap there are number of fences at the same time, which are impossible to break through without help of the other people. We can also find out that people with disabilities are exposed to some kinds of discrimination. The most severe fence for those people is that they have got nearly closed access to the labour market. People with disabilities belong in disadvantaged groups at the labour market and they are suffering from long-term unemployment. Sheltered workshops are one way how to integrate those people. People with health problems and with changed working ability work there. Working in the sheltered workshops isn{\crq}t only earning money. It is also a place where especially the disabled people can become members of society and can gain new experience. I tried to find out similarities and differences in running of chosen sheltered workshops. Based on my stay in Massachusetts, USA I chose to concentrate on describing non-government, non-profit organization called Road to Responsibility, Inc. In the Czech Republic I chose for the same purpose Domov sv. Anežky, o.p.s. in Týn nad Vltavou. In theoretical part of thesis, I concentrate on the problems of disability. I am describing history of care of people with disabilities, the types of disability, socialization and last, but not least jobs opportunities and self{--}fulfillment of peoplewith disabilities. The practical section of thesis is divided into two parts. In part one I am describing running of the chosen companies and their sheltered workshops and in part two I am graphically displaying found information. I chose to do research two different ways. The first one was secondary data analysis and content analysis. I also collected information from interviews, in which I talked to employees and managers of the workshops. Before I started collecting data I chose what information I want to find out, what documents I want to study so I will get the result I wanted {--} to find out the similarities and differences of the chosen workshops in USA and in Czech Republic. The information were e.g. rights and obligations of the clients, the founders of those companies, what do they offer, personal security, qualifications of employees, rates of pay for people with disabilities and last but not least what types of workshops each organization runs. Based on the information I collected, I realized, that certain differences between Road to Responsibility and Domov sv. Anežky exists. The main difference is different rates of pay for people with disability for their work. Another difference is how the rights of clients are exercise. I can declare that both my hypothesis were correct. I am convinced, that my work points out the similarities and differences, which exist in sheltered workshops in the Czech Republic and USA. But of course it is not the whole view of how the community works.

Příprava a realizace týdenního intervenčního jógového programu zaměřeného na rozvoj jemné motoriky a pohyblivosti u lidí s mentálním postižením / Preparation and Realization an Intensive Week-long Programme of Yoga Relaxation Exercises Aims to Improvement of Fine Motor Skills and Mobility of Mentally-disabled People

JANKOVCOVÁ, Kateřina January 2009 (has links)
This thesis deals with development of personal, but mainly physical and motor skills of people with mental disabilities by application of yoga movement therapy. My research has aimed to find out if an intensive week-long programme of yoga relaxation exercises can lead to improvement of fine motor skills, mobility, and the overall physical condition of mentally-disabled people of the 1st to 3rd level of disability. The research was conducted during the week-long school stay in nature. The participants were tested both the first and last day of their stay. The research sample was composed of six women and four men from the school for persons with special needs in Česke Budějovice. The methods utilised during the research were direct observation, evaluation and questioning to detect changes in indicators of physical condition and fine motor skills (including grasping reflexes of participants and familiarisation with new expressions). The results show positive change in these indicators. The therapy regimen resulted in the improvement in movement coordination, fine subtle skills of arms in everyday{\crq}s patient{\crq}s self-care activities; and the positive influence of yoga was also observed on psychological well-being of participants. The research project was beneficial for the participants and can serve as a model for further utilisation in the field applications of yoga exercises for people with mental disabilities.

Making health and welfare decisions in old age : challenging the adequacy of mental disability law and theory

Pritchard-Jones, Laura Gwynne January 2016 (has links)
Old age – and particularly the increasing numbers of older people globally and within the United Kingdom - is becoming a social and political phenomenon. Yet despite this, very little has been written on how the law – and especially mental disability law – intersects with old age. This is notwithstanding the fact that many older people may encounter conditions that impact their mental or cognitive abilities, and proportionally, may therefore be greatly affected by this area of law. By drawing on a number of theories – sometimes termed ‘relational’ theories – which are derived predominantly from feminist theory, this thesis seeks to explore the adequacy of mental disability law for safeguarding health and welfare-related decision-making of older adults in three areas; where an older person has been subjected to ageism, where they have been the victim of interpersonal abuse, and where they have dementia and may lack mental capacity. Within this broader goal, this thesis has two specific aims. First, to explicitly critique and challenge the adequacy of the law as it is applied in these circumstances. It is suggested in particular that a deeper analysis of the law in both its previous and current forms betrays the liberal and unduly individualistic roots of the legislative framework. These are roots that are predicated on non-interference, and an idealistic paradigm of the rational, autonomous, and healthy bodied individual. This – it is contended throughout – is an unsuitable philosophy to underpin the law, particularly where the law engages with older adults. Second, this thesis aims to navigate a more suitable pathway within the law as it currently exists. While operating as a tool to critique the legislative framework and its underpinning philosophy, it is argued that the theories drawn upon throughout the thesis also have the potential to highlight how the law could be implemented in such a way so as to emphasise the importance of the realities of the lived experiences of old age, and particularly the experience of ageism, abuse, and dementia. Crucially, it is also suggested that such theories can help the law pay greater attention to the complex web of relationships – both positive and negative; personal and societal – that an older person may find themselves embedded within, and that frequently take on an added significance in old age.

Les personnes handicapées vieillissantes : enjeux socio-économiques, organisationnels, et diagnostics : le cas du syndrome de Down / The ageing of the people with disabilities : socioeconomics, organizationals, diagnostic issues : the case of Down syndrome

Djoulah, Farida 02 February 2015 (has links)
People with Down syndrome (DS), also known as trisomy 21, have seen their life expectancy increase beyond 50 years inducing the onset of AlzheimerOtype dementia (DTA). The consequences of this increase in life expectancy are multiple: difficulty of diagnosing dementia in a population with intellectual disabilities, difficulty of care for this population, etc. Thus, specialised institution and memory clinics remain powerless against the management and diagnosis of this population. Our thesis has aimed to address all the challenges related to this issue. Our work thus highlighted: 1 / this problem concerns both for the elderly than for the disabled, 2 / there is a real difficulty in diagnosing the presence of dementia in this population. To meet this challenge we have developed and tested a diagnostic aid tool. 3 / diagnostic problematic, professional training and support for people in charge of this population (activities, unsuitable premises, insufficient teacher ratio, increasing medicalization, etc.) via organizational modelling the life course of individuals suffering from SD and DTA. This model shows the impact on the evolution of organizations and host institutions and the lack of connection between the health sector and medicoOsocial. Hypothesis and possible solutions are discussed.

Soukupová, Karolína January 2017 (has links)
This diploma theses is focused on problems of educational support tools for pupils of 1 st grade of The Elementary Special School. A theoretical part deals with problems of the mental handicap, mainly factors that significantly influence ability of education, and with a contemporary legislation of education of children with spetial educational needs. Furthermore it describes teaching programmes and didactic tools which are used at The Elementary Special Schools. Research target of the study is to find out a teacher's opinion about current teaching supports for given type of school and a survey of teacher's experience with use of new methods especially in relation to pupils who are usually integrated to their classes. Innovated teaching supports created on the basis of previous experience are subsequently verified in praxis and results of verification are partially documented by examples. According to research, current educational supports are convenient for pupils who cope with stipulated schoolwork easily. The other pupils have considerable difficulties to manage schoolwork therefore they need adapted teaching materials for their educational abilities. There are some examples of these materials in the attachment. KEYWORDS: mental disability, special education needs, elementary special school,...

Komunikační schopnosti žáků základní školy speciální / Communication skills of pupils at special elementary school

Kozáková, Eliška January 2017 (has links)
The thesis deals with communication abilities of pupils attending special elementary school. The theoretical part summarizes the general knowledge of communication, the development of speech in the healthy population and impaired communication abilities. It also deals with the description, the etiology and symptoms of mental disability, Down syndrome and combined disabilities, especially cerebral palsy. The final part summarizes knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication used for patients with severely impaired communication skills. The practical part consists of the interpretation of the results of the research, dealing with the analysis of the communication skills of pupils from special elementary school, especially comparisons of evaluations of this communication by family members and professionals who work with the specific person. The result of the research is the fact that the communication skills of students from special elementary schools are very individual and family assessment and key worker may not coincide.
