Educator participation in the implementation of a total quality management strategy : a case study

Tlhapi, Petrus Makganye 06 1900 (has links)
The principles of Total Quality Management (TQM), initially designed to effect continuous improvement in the business sector, have been successfully applied in educational settings. Hence, this study was undertaken to explore educator participation in the implementation of a TQM Strategy at selected academically underperforming secondary schools in the Moses Kotane Area to address shortfalls. A literature review on TQM provided a conceptual framework for the empirical inquiry. Special attention was given to the role of educators in TQM implementation. The empirical study used qualitative research methods to explore the use of TQM in fifteen schools selected by purposive sampling. Observation, document analysis and focus group interviews were used to gather data. The findings indicate that educators regard TQM as an improvement tool; however, they hold negative and positive views about TQM. Finally, recommendations were made to enhance the implementation of TQM in underperforming secondary schools in the Moses Kotane Area. / Educational Studies / M. Ed. (Education Management)

Nowadays, the professional accountant has a practicalmechanical accounting knowledge larger than an accounting reasoning. This investigation, through my (auto)biographical trajectory study in a professional formation perspective, aims to identify the most determining elements in the Accounting Sciences Professor formation, and verify how much the investigation exercise has been present in this formation as well as examine if investigation, as an educational principle reflects itself in the teaching practice. It is necessary to understand that in the trajectory from Accountant to Accounting Sciences Professor, often results from an invitation to successful professionals in the area, who do not necessarily have the adequate pedagogical formation to teach. It is also the scope of this study, based on a better understanding of the practical aspects of a trajectory from an Accountant to Accounting Sciences Professor, to suggest some possible ways for the continuing education programs for these professors. Thus from the Education and Educators point of view, I assume as references Freire, Demo and Schön; from the High Education viewpoint, Cunha and Buarque; from the Accounting Sciences viewpoint, Iudícibus and Marion. The methodology utilized to elaborate this study was the (auto)biographical investigation, with reference, mainly, in Nóvoa and Josso. The results suggest that the tendency to reproduce the banking education, received at school from Elementary School to College, can only be reverted if the subject, without leaving the teaching practice job, has the opportunity to study the theoretical basis of the formal educative processes and to bring them to reflection upon his practice. The study demonstrates that the (auto)biographical investigation with the formative finality can be of great help in this reflexive process. Thus it is suggested that these strategies be utilized in the continuing education process of the Account Sciences Professors.(AU) / Devido à proliferação dos Cursos do Ensino Superior de Ciências Contábeis, o Conselho Federal de Contabilidade CFC criou o Exame de Suficiência, por ter constatado que a qualidade do ensino deixava a desejar, procurando, nas provas, dar ênfase às questões éticas.

Mobile Opportunistic Services for Experience Sharing : Via a NetInf Android Application

Moradinia, Pourya, Sakhi, Imal January 2014 (has links)
Information-Centric Networking (ICN) is a new research area concerning creating a new network architecture that would be more suitable for both current and the future's network. The MOSES (Mobile Opportunistic Services for Experience Sharing) project is part of this development. The project works with the development and demonstration of the Network of Information (NetInf) protocol, which is an implementation of the ICN concept. This Master’s thesis project is part of the MOSES project and aims to assist the MOSES project with the demonstration of a mobile opportunistic sharing concept based on the NetInf protocol. Demonstrating the MOSES concept in practice requires deep understanding of networking, localization, transport, and dissemination of digital content in an ad hoc network. This implementation requires an analysis of the previous work, development of new functionalities, and finally an analysis of a series of controlled experiments. This Master’s thesis project has designed, implemented, and evaluated an Android application within the MOSES framework by using the previously developed NetInf Android library. This prototype is used to demonstrate how mobile Android users can opportunistically share and disseminate content based on their location using the MOSES/ICN concept. The functionality and efficiency of the prototype Android application built during this thesis project has been analyzed and evaluated by conducting a series of controlled experiments under the supervision of MOSES researchers. The results of these controlled experiments has provided insight for MOSES researchers as well as explored the concept of using ICN (NetInf) for opportunistic content distribution. The experiment results aim at assisting MOSES researchers to extend and further develop the prototype application and the involved algorithms to create a fully functional mobile application for experience sharing services tailored to large-scale events.

Esther as the new Moses : deliverance motifs in the Book of Esther

Nkhonjera, Lapani Langford Sankhani 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MTh)--Stellenbosch University, 2015. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study aims to compare the figures of Moses in the Exodus narratives and Queen Esther in the Esther narratives. The study will proceed to argue that Esther, a remarkable Jewish deliverer figure in the Persian period can be viewed as a reinterpretation of the Moses figure in the Exodus narratives. Within a broad analysis of these narratives, the researcher investigates how Esther fits into the Old Testament deliverance motifs. Commonalities between Moses and Esther and their parallels and characterization as Old Testament deliverer figures assist in drawing a comparative analysis between the two. The study proceeds to prove that Esther is a new Moses figure, arguing that the Esther narratives are presented deliberately in such a way that they reinterpret the Moses narratives. A survey of previous studies that investigated the two narratives provides further evidence for the view that the Esther narratives are reinterpreting the Moses narratives, and hence that Esther can be regarded as a new Moses in the Old Testament deliverance motifs. This study argues that Esther stands within the same category of Old Testament deliverer figures like Moses and that female figures like Esther are not ignored in the deliverance of God’s people. The concluding part of this study investigates what implications the Old Testament narratives of Moses and Esther as deliverer figures may have for the modern-day context of African leadership. The focus is on investigating whether biblical models of leadership and deliverance offer anything to the discourse on African leadership. In the last section, the models of Moses and Esther are applied to modern-day ethical problems of leadership in African societies. It is postulated that Old Testament ethical reflections on biblical characters such as Moses and Esther may inform modern-day reflection on responsible leadership.

Figuring from within : a study in history, painting and the work of Moses Tladi

Coetsee, Yda Cornelia 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 2015. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study explores the significance of landscape painting in my own work and in the work of Moses Tladi, one of the lesser-known SA pioneer artists working in the oil painting convention. Through a Romantic lens, I argue that Tladi’s paintings exist as record of his experiences, thoughts and emotions, making use of a hermeneutics ‘from within’, rather than one aimed at Realist exposition. While employing such a hermeneutics in my own practice, I seek out points of connection between Tladi and myself, as well as explore if and to what degree our different socio-political circumstances shape our practices. In part one of the thesis I sketch a narrative backdrop to the era in which Tladi lived and of his relationship to his patrons, mentors and the establishment. I explore his work in relation to popular conventions at the time, matters of modernism and abstraction, as well as to some degree how the landscape genre functions in terms of class. The overall argument is divided in two parts, that of the metaphorical ‘Garden’ and that of the ‘Wilderness’. With this divide I aim to reveal how Tladi employs the transcendent both in the sublime expanse of Sekhukhuneland and in his domestic, everyday reality. The ideological relationship between the Garden and Wilderness is examined in terms of theories on landscape, imperialism and the Lutheran missionary project. In the second part I describe my own work and discuss the contribution it makes. While alluding to many of the devices already discussed in Tladi’s work, I sketch the context in which my own paintings were made and explain some of my stylistic and curatorial choices. In demonstrating how our techniques and methodologies overlap, I aim to cristallise some of the theoretical themes explored.

Hugget i sten : En kvalitativ studie om hur Gud och Moses framställs i tre nutida filmadaptioner av exodusberättelsen / Written in stone : A qualitative study of how God and Moses are depicted in three contemporary film adaptions of The Exodus story

Kling, Martin January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to examine how God and Moses are depicted in three contemporary American film adaptions of The Exodus story. The films I have analyzed are: The Ten Commandments (2006), The Bible: Exodus (2013) and Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014). For this, I have used a content analysis and Bruce Lincoln’s theory of religious maximalism and minimalism. This study has shown that the first two films are characterized by an almighty God who helps Moses from the very first step, while the third gives a more scientific explanation of e.g. the ten pledges and the crossing of the Red Sea. While God in The Bible: Exodus (2014) is also portrayed as a god who acts out of love and compassion for his people, this is not the case in the other two films which instead portray him in a much more negative light. My conclusion is therefore that these three films do not only differ in how God and Moses are depicted but that they provide us with different messages about God and religion in general.

The influence of Moses' charismatic leadership on the incipient stages of Israel's religion.

09 January 2008 (has links)
This study is about Moses, charismatic leadership, and the beginnings of Israel's religion. At a time when traditional and time-honoured customs were revered and preserved, but proved inadequate, Moses, a charismatically endowed leader, arose and overthrew the old order, and in its place proffered the new in the form of mono-Yahwism, which ultimately became the national Israelite religion. This claim is analysed and discussed in four chapters. Chapter 1 is a preliminary to the thesis and deals with the reason for, and aim of this study, methodological considerations, and has a section presenting, very briefly, the debate on the historicity of Moses. Chapter 2 was composed using literary principles and narrative literature in the book of Exodus, to glean a description of the character of Moses. The next two chapters form the main thrust of this study. Chapter 3 examined Weber's typology of leadership, providing the groundwork for the understanding and contextualization of charismatic leadership. The aim of chapter 4 was to show the characteristics of the charismatic leader, Moses, and how they were instrumental in his formulation of mono-Yahwism. The main points discussed were: Moses' personality, and the social context as a source of his charismatic leadership; the recognition of the charismatic leader and his message; the importance of charisma in Moses' achievements; and some factors that drive the charismatic person. The main methodological thrust is socio-religious, within which Max Weber's interpretative framework of charismatic leadership is employed. The work shows that Moses has the traits of a charismatic leader, and that, through the effect of his personality, he influenced the beginnings of Israelite religion. / Prof. J.H. Coetzee

There are many ways of being a boy: Barbara Kimenye's imagination of boyhood masculinities in selected storybooks from the Moses series

Chabari, Kimathi Emmanuel 05 November 2009 (has links)
Abstract This study examines Barbara Kimenye’s imagination of boyhood masculinities in the selected adventure stories from the Moses series. It is based on the understanding that gender is a social construct. The Research Report contributes to children’s literature and gender scholarships. In particular, through textual analysis of primary texts and gender related theoretical framework, I highlight various categories of masculine behaviour based on boy characters’ power, control and popularity at Mukibi Educational Institute – Kimenye’s fictitious boarding school in Moses series. I tease out complexities of both individuals’ and groups’ notions of manliness and how they manifest in various locales. I argue that there are many ways of being a boy. I also highlight how the author deploys satire to imagine a boarding school and how this space allows construction and performance of specific boyhood masculinities. In addition, I highlight Kimenye’s depiction of corporal punishment and family relatives and how these also allow for construction and performance of particular man-like behaviour by her boy characters. Kimenye’s imagination of girlhood masculinities is also explored by examining boy characters’ stereotypes on girls and how through Sekabanja – a girl character – the author manages to deconstruct this by portraying her [Sekabanja] as behaving as expected of a boy. In addition, I highlight Kimenye’s representation of enactment of gender inequalities in a mixed sex school. I also underline how illustrations also participate in the imagination of girlhood masculinities. I argue that by portraying a girl – Sekabanja – as behaving as expected of boys if not better, Kimenye is highlighting gender as a social construct and participating in deconstruction of stereotypes on girls and women through a literary technique.
