Generalized Maximum Likelihood Algorithm for TOA Estimation in Multi-band OFDM UWB Systems

Yang, Shih-Wei 26 August 2005 (has links)
The fine time resolution of ultra wide-band (UWB) systems enables applications in TOA/TDOA based high precision wireless indoor location. The main purpose of this thesis is to investigate TOA estimation in multi-band OFDM UWB systems. We propose an effective and simplified TOA estimation algorithm for multi-band OFDM standard. The proposed algorithm is based on the generalized maximum-likelihood (GML) algorithm. The TOA estimation algorithm utilizes the preamble signal in multi-band OFDM system. We modify the realization method of GML algorithm according to the preamble signal properties and apply it to multi-band OFDM system. From simulation results, by comparing with cross correlation algorithm and the original GML algorithm, the proposed algorithm has ability to mitigate multipath interference and improves TOA estimation accuracy. In this thesis we also discuss the thresholds setting and SNR estimation problems to make the proposed algorithm more realizable.

Low Power Mapping Methodology for Multi-voltage System

Xie, Yao-Ren 21 July 2006 (has links)
Since the development of SoC is very fast, how to reduce the power consumption of SoC has become a very important issue. To overcome the issue, the hardware circuit provides multi-voltage method to reduce task power consumption. On the other hand, the software tool decides the task voltage to minimize the total power consumption. In this thesis, we developed a genetic algorithm to solve the voltage mapping problem of multi-voltage systems. This goal of this genetic algorithm is to consider the time constraints or power constraints in the multi-voltage system to find the better solution. In order to apply genetic algorithm to solve voltage mapping problem, we build a compilation flow that embeds in the genetic algorithm. To demonstrate the efficiency of proposed approach, we apply compilation flow to two examples. One is multi-voltage reconfigurable processor system. The processor in the system provides multi-mode and multi-voltage. The multi-mode can reduce the execution time of tasks with high parallelism. Multi-voltage can reduce the power consumption of task by decreasing voltage. We use genetic algorithm to choose task mode to achieve the performance goal. Another is multiple multi-voltage processors. We use list-scheduling to find the task schedule and use genetic algorithm to choose the task voltage. This method can reduce total power consumption. According to the experimental results, the proposed genetic algorithm can reduce the power consumption efficiently.

A Study of Marketing Strategy of Native MPV

Chen, Ching-lung 24 July 2006 (has links)
¡@¡@Automobles are those highest price goods beside houses. They are a symbol of status and wealth in the past, but nowdays, almost every family can afford them. An automoble is more than a tool of travaling, but also an attribute of life style and values. Therefore, the decision factors of buying an automoble are more complicated, and the demands of consumers are more and more diversificated. For these reasons, automoble manufacturers have to develop more varied types of automobiles to fit market trends and consumer needs. ¡@¡@To conclude the trend of Taiwan automobile sales, RV(Recreation Vehicle) is increasing rapidly for the recent years because of the favor of consumers. The sales of SU(Space Utility) is about 55%, and MPV(Multi-Purpose Vehicle) is the best saler type, so MPV is one of the trand of Taiwan automobile market. ¡@¡@The beginning of Taiwan MPV history is Mazda introduced Premacy at April 2001, an obviously increasing period was after the introduce of Mitsubishi Savrin at September 2001, till September 2004, Toyota Wish introduced, the MPV segment was getting into maturity. In 2005, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota contained more than 90% sales of Taiwan MPV, so the centralization and average sales of MPV is more than other segments. ¡@¡@To analize the marketing strategies of main MPVs, this research choosed the owners of Mazda Premacy, Mazda 5(which is the next type of Premacy), Mitsubishi Savrin, Mitsubishi Inspire(which is the second brand name of Savrin) and Toyota Wish to study about ¡§present car and previous car¡¨, ¡§important factors of buying¡¨, ¡§satisfication level of present car¡¨ and ¡§personal information¡¨ by questionnaires. The investigation was during April 22 to May 7 2006, and received 63 complete questionnaires. ¡@¡@According to the research, the owner of MPV is 76.2% for male, average 34.9 years old, 57.1% for colledge or more, 66.7% for marriaged and have kids, 49.2% for two generations family, average 4.4 persons per family. They are 54.0% by car-loans, 47.6% consulting their spouses, 50.8% replace-buy, because 30.2% for Ex-car was too old to use, mainly information was from magazines, and prefer allowance promotions(39.7%). They think highly of ¡§safety¡¨, ¡§exterior¡¨ and ¡§public praise¡¨ when buying a car. ¡@¡@Among main MPVs, Premacy has no superior items, but service inferior items, Mazda 5 has performance superior items, but service inferior items, Savrin has service superior items, but economy inferior items, Inspire has service superior items, but economy inferior items, Wish has service and funcation superior items, but economy and performance inferior item. ¡@¡@In the end, this research use IPA(Importancd-Performance Analysis) for a tool to analysis and suggest the future strategic actions, such as Premacy is suggested to improve ¡§after-sales service¡¨, ¡§brand image¡¨, ¡§variability of seats¡¨ and ¡§durability¡¨, Mazda 5 is suggested to improve ¡§variability of seats¡¨, Savrin 2.0 is suggested to improve ¡§discount¡¨, ¡§price¡¨ and ¡§breaks¡¨, Savrin 2.4 is suggested to improve ¡§discount¡¨, Inspire 2.0 is suggested to improve ¡§breaks¡¨, Inspire 2.4 is suggested to improve ¡§breaks¡¨ and ¡§saleman service¡¨, and Wish is suggested to improve ¡§assembling quality¡¨.

Throughput Analysis and Enhancement of Multi-Channel MAC Protocol in Ad-Hoc Networks

Kao, Hui-hsiang 07 September 2006 (has links)
Multi-channel MAC protocol is that schedules frames to be exchanged on different channels. To analyze the performance of multi-channel MAC protocol, an analytical model is proposed to compute the network throughput. Simulation results show that the proposed model is able to model the behaviors of multi-channel MAC protocol accurately. Furthermore, based on the analysis model, in this thesis we also proposes an adaptive contention window scheme to enhance the network throughput by tuning the initial contention window size. Results indicate that the proposed scheme can reduce the cost of collisions and increase the network throughput.

Spatial Decision of a Multi-store Firm under Price Regulation

Chang, Yu-Shu 13 June 2007 (has links)
In view of the fact that multi-store firms have been normal in a real society, this paper is concerned with the spatial decision of a multi-store firm under price regulation. It is shown that a multi-store firm with monopoly power will select as decision variables the size of a single store and the number of stores at the same time. In the duopolistic market, the new entrant will not compete with all stores of the incumbent on the same location, because of the non-existence of positive profit for both firms in this case. The new entrant will select to locate differently to compete with the incumbent in the short term. It is shown that there exists a Nash equilibrium regardless of whether or not the new entrant sets up its stores in the two ends of the linear market area. However, in the long run, the incumbent will decide not only the size of the stores, but also the locations. Nash equilibrium is shown to exist also in the long run. Finally, some numerical simulations of price regulation on welfare are carried out in the last section. Keywords¡Glocation, multi-store firm, price competition

Design of A Multi-Speed Manual Recreational Wheelchair

Lin, Anchi 04 July 2001 (has links)
The wheelchair is an auxiliary tool for people who have defective legs. In comparison with the power wheelchair, the manual wheelchair has the advantage of low price and easy carrying. The regular, standard manual wheelchair is only suitable for residential environment and short-distance movement, and it¡¦s unsuitable for outdoor recreation and long-distance movement. The purpose of this study is to develop the manual wheelchair for outdoor recreation and long-distance movement, so that the users can expand their living space beyond the residential areas. In order to enhance the efficiency of propulsion for manual wheelchairs, a systematic designing method for propulsive mechanisms is proposed in this study in which the propulsive way of the traditional manual wheelchair is replaced by propelling the propulsive mechanism. In order to let the wheelchair be adapted to all kinds of environments, the multi-speed drive hub is applied to the manual wheelchair to enhance the users¡¦ force with more flexibility. In addition, this study also designs and manufactures a wheelchair to test the functions. The results of the test are then recorded and examined to provide the references for the future design.

Shih, I-Hsiung 23 June 2002 (has links)
As e-Learning has become an important trend for the training system of modern enterprises, there are many kinds of e-Learning system offered by different consulting companies with different specialties in Taiwan. To construct the best system, the enterprise must first find the real application in order to choose the optimum. The study, based on the purposes of enterprise requirement, tried to develop the methodology by using Multi-criteria Decision Making to help managers, the decision makers to evaluate an appropriate e-Learning project with a successful example of one famous ¡§steel corporation¡¨ in their evaluation by this method. From our study, the foresight in planning e-Learning system with prudent evaluation by taking the enterprise¡¦s present situation, his real needs and the evaluation model of decision making into account can avoid the prejudice of decision makers and the excessive propaganda of consulting company which might result in an inapplicable project. To the very enterprise that tries to construct his e-Learning System effectively, the methodology of Multi-criteria Decision Making provides the sequence of system selection and references for evaluation of system construction.
