Cederquist, Susanna January 2009 (has links)
Does dyslexia have any impact on the music field? Do music reading problems have a connection to the reading difficulties that are common among people with dyslexia? I wanted to find out how dyslexia works in connection with music and music performance and highlight the pedagogical implications this entailed. I have done this by literature studies in the field and by interviews with 9 musicians with dyslexia. I have used my own experiences and theories which I developed by myself from being a musician with dyslexia and I have related this to the general knowledge in the field and the results of the interviews. Knowledge in this field is not yet comprehensive and Sweden does not seem to be in the forefront when it comes to producing or practicing skills on dyslexia and music. The result of my interviews corroborated largely with the literature and my own experiences. Music is affected by dyslexia and above everything from the way we in the West most often have chosen to aproach music and music pedagogy. The way you work if you have dyslexia, which results in dyslectic problems with reading and writing, affects even the music and especially the use of notation. The ability to digest music through notes is adversely affected, which is extremely important to know, especially for the student who otherwise can be stopped, or locked out, in the music area by misunderstanding. The way of thinking that people with dyslexia have, can also affect music positivly. The quick thinking and the proximity to images and creativity that is typical of dyslectic people are often beneficial in terms of musical expression. A freedom while playing by ear or improvising is described positivly and in detail, both in the literature and by informants in the investigation. This effect seems to be primary and natural, it does not seem to be explained by the compensation of difficulties that people with dyslexia have in other areas of the music. / <p>Examensarbete 15 hp.
