På flykt till gränskontrollernas land : En studie om hur flyktingar gestaltas i Dagens Nyheter och Sydsvenskan / On the run the the land of border controls : A study of Dagens Nyheter and Sydsvenskan’s portrayal of refugees

Alm, Agnethe, Ronnebäck, Tove January 2017 (has links)
In the autumn of 2015 a huge amount of refugees were on the run to Sweden. The news media described the situation as a refugee crisis and border controls were initiated. The aim of this study was to examine how two Swedish newspapers, one national and one local, portrayed refugees at the time when the border controls were initiated in Sweden. The questions examined were: How are the refugees portrayed, what are the similarities and differences between Dagens Nyheter and Sydsvenskan’s portrayal of the refugees? To approach this we made two different analysis of reports from each newspaper, three from Dagens Nyheter and two from Sydsvenskan. We did a framing analysis on the text and a semiotic analysis on the pictures. Findings show that the portrayal of refugees are very similar in both newspapers. The refugees are described as inferior, but at the same time brave, well-educated and hopeful. We also found that refugees often are portrayed as “the others” and the citizens of Sweden are portrayed as “we”. Although the similarities outweighs, we found some interesting differences in the newspapers portrayal of the refugees. For example, in Dagens Nyheter the hopefulness is combined with a positive and joyful approach, while Sydsvenskan describes the hope with an uncertainty and concern about the future.

”Han har valt ut sina offer. De som varit mörkhyade har attackerats.” : Skolattacken i Trollhättan – En jämförelse mellan Aftonbladet och TTELA / “He chose his victims. Those who have darker skin have been attacked.” : The school attack in Trollhättan – a comparison between Aftonbladet and TTELA

Lindberg, Malin, Robertsson, Alice January 2021 (has links)
On the 22nd October 2015 Anton Lundin Pettersson attacked students with a sword at Kronan elementary school, in the Swedish city of Trollhättan. The school is locally known to have many students with different immigrant backgrounds. When the police arrived at the school they shot the perpetrator and after an investigation the police claimed that the perpetrator had racist motives with the attack. Four persons died in the attack, including the perpetrator. The aim of this study was to compare how a local newspaper and a national newspaper covered and framed the school attack in Trollhättan. Our research questions were: How was the attack framed in the articles? How were the victims and the perpetrator framed in the articles? And are there any differences and/or similarities in the newspaper's coverage of the event? In this study we made a qualitative text analysis to examine the comparison between newspapers TTELA (local) and Aftonbladet (national). The timeframe we analysed for the news coverage was from the day of the attack (October 22nd) and one month forward (November 23rd). Totally 29 articles were examined where 17 was from Aftonbladet and 12 was from TTELA. The results showed that both newspapers framed the attack as something that no one saw coming and they both used the words “attack” or “deed” to describe the incident. The newspapers framed some victims as heroes and others as helpless people. Both newspapers framed the perpetrator as a racist, but only the national newspaper (Aftonbladet) framed him as a “lone wolf”. The results showed that the newspapers reported from different forms of othering.

Holm, Teodor January 2018 (has links)
The aim of the study wa s to investigate how referees are portrayed in the media, as participants in refereeing scandals. A study I conducted through examining how hockey referees are portrayed and represented in match texts from both local and national Swedish sports journalism, written in connection to refereeing scandals. I used the method of critical discourse analysis t o examine the question . Through the method I performed an in - depth analysis of how hockey referees are portrayed and represented in eight match texts , written in con nection to different refereeing scandals, from both local and nat ional Swedish sp orts journ alism. The result of the critical discourse analysis showed that the media depicts referees as scapegoats in refereeing scandals. It also showed that referees are portrayed as the ”b ad guys” and abusers of power. Further, my study showed that t hrough melodramatic journalistic descriptions and critical comments from players and coaches, referees are portrayed as unprofessional practicioners in the media match texts written in connection to different refereeing scandals.

Politická karikatura v českém tisku mezi roky 1945 až 1948 / Political caricature in the Czech press between 1945 and 1948

Pallendal, Pavel January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this diploma thesis is the comparison between cartoons published in two wide-nation newspapers by examples of major political events in Czechoslovakia between 1945 - 1948. In order to achieve this objective I used a comparative-historical method. I deliberately worked with issues that had divided the public and political representation. I focused on inequality in the way of exposing and selection of the content of cartoons. The Selection of newspapers was not random, because representativeness was my main criterion. Svobodné slovo was based on the tradition of the party list and its contents were corrected by the party leadership of the Czechoslovak National Socialist Party, which formed together with the Czechoslovak People's Party internal opposition to the Czechoslovak Communist Party in the National Front. Daily Práce was a new paper which represented the views of the Central Council of Trade Unions, which were initially under the strong influence of the Communists. Práce belonged to a wide block of the media who supported the policy of the Communists. I have divided the referenced period 1945 - 1948 into three consecutive time-related phases. I defined the first section with year 1945. For this period enthusiasm stemming from the liberation from Nazi and the belief in a better...
