Efeito da ordem de utilização de dentifrícios e enxaguatórios bucais contendo fluoretos e estanho na prevenção do desgaste erosivo / Effect of order of user of dentifrices and oral rinses containing fluoride and stannous on the prevention of enamel erosive wearMachado, Alana Cristina 29 May 2017 (has links)
A combinação de F+Sn não apresentou resultado superior ao uso de apenas F. / Considering that the eroded enamel is more susceptible to be wear off by toothbrushing abrasion, and that fluoride, or the combination between fluoride and stannous, would induce precipitates that are relatively resistant to toothbrushing, the objective of this study was to evaluate whether the use of fluoridated oral rinses, containing or not stannous, could reduce the magnitude of wear of the eroded enamel. In addition, it sought to verify if storage in artificial saliva before treatments would influence the loss of the eroded enamel. One hundred and forty enamel specimens (with 4mmx4mmx2mm) were cut from bovine incisors, embedded in acrylic resin, flattened, polished, and randomly allocated into 14 experimental groups (n=10), according to the following treatments, which were applied immediately or 30min after erosion: control- toothbrushing with artificial saliva; E(F)- toothbrushing with F dentifrice (1400 ppm F, as AmF); E+B(F)- toothbrushing with F dentifrice, followed by rinse with F solution (250 ppm F, as AmF and NaF); B+E(F)- rinse with F solution, followed by toothbrushing with F dentifrice; E(F+Sn)- toothbrushing with F+Sn dentifrice (1400 ppm F, as AmF and NaF + 3500 ppm Sn, as SnCl2); E+B(F+Sn)- toothbrushing with F+Sn dentifrice, followed by rinse with F+Sn solution (500 ppm F, as AmF and NaF + 800 ppm Sn, as SnCl2); B+E(F+Sn)- rinse with F+Sn solution, followed by toothbrushing with F+Sn dentifrice. The treatments were tested in an erosion-abrasion model, consisting of 2min immersion in 0.3% citric acid solution, followed by 60min exposure to artificial saliva. This procedure was repeated 4x/day, for 5 days. The treatments were performed immediately or 30min after the first and the last erosive challenges. Toothbrushing was performed with electric toothbrushes, for 15s, with a total exposure time to the dentifrice slurries (1:3) of 2 min. Exposure to the rinse solutions were performed for 30s. At the end of cycling, enamel surface loss (SL, in ?m) was measured by optical profilometry. Data were statiscally analyzed (?=0.05). For the groups with saliva exposure before treatments, the lowest SL was observed for B+E(F) and B+E(F+Sn), which were significantly different when compared to the control, but not in relation to E+B(F) and E+B(F+Sn). E+B(F), E+B(F+Sn) and the other groups did not significantly differ from the control. For the groups without saliva exposure, the lowest SL was observed for B+E(F) and B+E(F+Sn), being significantly different from the control. The other groups did not exhibit SL different from the control. For B+E(NaF), the lowest SL was observed without saliva exposure, and for +B(Sn), the lowest SL was observed with saliva exposure. There was no significantly difference between the conditions of exposure or not to saliva for the other groups. It was concluded that, either for F as for F+Sn, rinsing with a fluoridated solution before toothbrushing was able to reduce the wear of the eroded enamel. Saliva exposure before toothbrushing showed a positive effect only for F+Sn when toothbrushing was performed before the rinse. The combination of F+Sn did not present superior results to the use of only F.

Assay of Oral Polymorphonuclear Neutrophils for Assessment of Oral Inflammation in Pregnant WomenHuda, Sabrina 20 November 2012 (has links)
Background: A multitude of studies suggest an association between periodontal disease and adverse birth outcomes. Although the evidence is controversial, it is biologically plausible, and the key link maybe inflammation.
Purpose: To correlate levels of periodontal disease as measured by conventional methods with PMN counts from an oral rinse in pregnant women.
Methods: Sixty-three pregnant women were recruited. Periodontal examinations were carried out. Fifteen-second saline rinses were collected. ABTS, a colour changing redox agent was added to each rinse. The intensity of the colour reaction was measured by absorbance to count the oral PMNs.
Results: A statistically significant difference in oral PMN counts was observed between those with periodontal disease and the healthy patients (P < .05). The sensitivity and specificity using the bleeding index was 0.94 and 0.76 respectively.
Conclusions: The rinse assay can be used as a screening tool for periodontal disease and oral inflammation in pregnant women.

An Exclusive Signal : Rinse FM and UK Club Music in the Digital AgeKolstad Lindblad, Simen January 2014 (has links)
This master’s thesis presents a study on the mediated negotiation between radio broadcasting and digital media. During the last decade, digitalisation has become unanimous with changing media structures, and has fundamentally altered the way radio is mediated by broadcasters and perceived by listeners. This study delves deeper into specialist music radio, more specifically, the London-based UK club music station Rinse FM. The study investigates how developments in digital media have influenced the way Rinse FM is reached and utilised by listeners, and how its implementation of digital media has affected its position as a cultural intermediary within the UK club music community. The investigation was carried out though a survey, and subsequent interviews, with members of Dubstepforum; an online forum, host to a substantial quantity of UK club music listeners. The research provides interesting results on listeners’ contemporary experience of Rinse FM, and outlines pivotal functions of specialist music radio in a digital age of free-flowing music content. The results explore participants’ digital listening habits in relation to Rinse FM; as well as the role of Rinse FM as cultural intermediary and community institution, depicted through the mediated experiences of Dubstepforum members. The study concludes with reflections upon specialist music radio’s continued development, and cultural position in the digital media environment.

Neuromechanical measurement of the effect of carbohydrate mouth rinse on human performance in strength and elite cycling enduranceJensen, Matthew 01 May 2018 (has links)
The overarching goal of this dissertation is to refine methods employed for assessing neuromuscular changes and associated power/force outputs during various perturbations of fatigue, direct or perceived, induced by either exercise or nutritional interventions, with associated performance outcomes.
To address this goal, we collected physiological and biomechanical data from subjects across a set of experiments designed to induce different levels of fatigue by the implementation of various exercise and nutritional interventions to cause various levels of fatigue in an ecologically valid manner. The data sets were collected during a single joint task and during cycling trials. During these experimental trials, we collected measures of kinetics (force and cycling power) as well as muscle activation (EMG) and physiological measures (heart rate, rating of perceived exertion, blood lactate, blood glucose, ventilation, oxygen uptake and carbon dioxide production) to investigate the overall performance, as well as potential mechanisms for improved performance related to the exercise and nutritional interventions.
In order to substantially enhance the collection of cycling kinetics and kinematics, we have developed an innovative sensor that improved the measurement resolution (temporal and spatial) of a commercial research grade power meter. Using these improved measures alongside advanced muscle activity analysis, we could ameliorate an experimental framework that could be used to investigate changes in fatigue and coordination pattern associated with exercise and nutritional interventions.
Investigation of the effects of a CHO mouth rinse vs. placebo on force and muscle activity during a very short (<3 min) neuromuscular demanding fatiguing trial demonstrated a consistent change in EMG median frequency related to increased fatigue in both experimental conditions, providing little evidence of change in neuromuscular strategy associated with CHO mouth rinse.
Further investigation explored the effects of a CHO mouth rinse vs. placebo using fundamental physiological measures of neuromuscular activation and overall performance measures during an ecologically valid late endurance cycling time trial. Our results demonstrated that while there was no overall effect noticed for time to completion, there was a significant decrease in performance in the time to complete various components of the time trial during the placebo trial only. Muscle activity of the lower leg (MG and SOL) demonstrated a modification in frequency only evident during the placebo condition.
Application of principal component analysis to power output and the EMG intensity profiles of the muscles of the lower leg during the pedal cycle revealed a more detailed understanding of the effect of CHO mouth rinse on performance during cycling. The average power output profile in WASH showed an earlier onset in the pedal cycle, greater duration and higher amplitude versus PLA during the TT. Additionally, only the PLA condition showed a significant increase in muscle activation throughout the time trial, which could be evidence of fatigue. This dissertation shows for the first time that CHO mouth rinse may have a substantial effect on the maintenance of power while mitigating the impact of neuromuscular fatigue, in late endurance performance, further strengthen our assertion that CHO may, in fact, minimize the changes in performance that are associated with fatigue during late endurance fatiguing events. / Graduate

A linguistic study of Pʻi pa chi rhymesNa, Zongxun January 1969 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to study the rhymes in P'i Pa Chi, a drama from South China in the Yuan Dynasty. To achieve this purpose the rhyme words of P'i Pa Chi were gathered and divided into rhyming categories. These were compared with earlier and contemporary phonological works such as rhyme tables, rhyme dictionaries etc. and some particular problems were studied.
P'i Pa Chi's rhyme categories, of course, cannot provide every single detail of real speech, but they do indicate certain differences as compared with contemporary Northern Drama which are important clues to an understanding of the phonological phenomena in Southern China in the Yuan Dynasty. / Arts, Faculty of / Asian Studies, Department of / Graduate

Influência da frequência de aplicação da solução de AmF/NaF/SnCl2 no seu potencial em inibir a progressão da lesão de erosão no esmalte dental humano / Influence of application frequency of AmF/NaF/SnCl2 solution in its potential in inhibiting the progression of erosion in human dental enamelSilva, Camila Vieira da 03 November 2015 (has links)
Durante a fase experimental in situ o dispositivo contendo as amostras foi submetido à ciclagem erosiva (ex vivo) semelhante à etapa in vitro. / Although several studies have shown promising results using the AmF/NaF /SnCl2 solution in inhibiting the progression of dental erosion, measures to further improve its effectiveness are fundamental. Thus, this in vitro and in situ study aimed to evaluate if the protective effect of this solution can be enhanced by increasing the frequency of use. Human enamel samples were obtained from sound human third molars; sixty for the in vitro study (4 x 4 x 1 mm), and ninety-six for the in situ (3 X 3 X 1 mm) study. After the formation of incipient erosive lesions, the in vitro samples (1% citric acid, pH 4.0, for 3 minutes), were divided into 5 treatment groups (n = 12): G1 - distilled water (negative control); G2 - NaF solution (positive control) 1x/day; G3 - NaF solution (positive control) 2x/day; G4 - AmF/NaF/SnCl2 solution 1x/day; G5 - AmF/NaF/SnCl2 solution 2x/day. The samples were then subjected to 5 days of erosive cycling through 6 daily immersions (2 minutes each) in citric acid solution (0.05 M, pH 2.6). At the end of erosive cycling, surface wear was determined by means of optical profilometry. To perform the in situ erosive challenge, the samples were also subjected to the formation of incipient lesion with the same methodology of the in vitro study. Twelve volunteers participated in the crossover in situ study - divided into four phases of 5 days each - and used a unilateral lower removable device containing 2 samples of eroded human enamel, which were changed at each phase. The samples were divided into 4 treatment groups (n = 12), the same considered for the in vitro phase, with the exception of the group of NaF solution 2x/day. During the in situ experimental phase, the device containing the sample was subjected to the erosive cycling (ex vivo), similar to the in vitro phase. At the end of each in situ experimental phase, the samples were removed from the device and analyzed by profilometry, and the average of duplicate samples were considered for statistical analysis. The ANOVA showed that the surface wear was affected by treatments evaluated in both in vitro and in situ (p?0,001) studies. In the in vitro study, the Tukey test showed no difference between the application of groups of NaF 1 (16.21 ±1.47) or 2 times (15.39 ±1.01), which showed limited reduction in wear compared to the distilled water group (20.36 ±1.56). Among the groups of AmF/NaF/SnCl2 solution, there was no difference between 1 (10.40 ±2.36) and 2 application times (7.27 ±3.29), and, although both demonstrated significantly reduced tissue loss, increasing the frequency has increased its anti-erosive potential. In the in situ phase, the NaF solution did not reveal the ability to reduce surface wear, and although there was no significant difference between the AmF/NaF/SnCl2 1 (2.64 ±1.55) and 2 times groups (1.34 ±1.16), this solution was effective in reducing the erosive wear compared to groups NaF (4.59 ±2.75) and distilled water (4.55 ±2.75). The AmF/NaF/SnCl2 solution shown to be effective in protecting the enamel progression of dental erosion, and increasing the frequency potentiate its anti-erosive effect both in vitro and in situ.

Although several studies have shown promising results using the AmF/NaF /SnCl2 solution in inhibiting the progression of dental erosion, measures to further improve its effectiveness are fundamental.

AvaliaÃÃo in vitro do efeito da desnaturaÃÃo tÃrmica do colÃgeno e do tratamento com clorexidina da dentina na resistÃncia adesiva / In vitro evaluation of the effect of thermal collagen denaturation and chlorhexidine application on resin-dentin bond strengthMarÃlia Mota Silva 17 December 2010 (has links)
The current adhesive systems promote an immediate and effective bond strength to dental substrates, however, over time, there may be a degradation of that process, impacting negatively on the maintenance of resistance values. Chlorhexidine digluconate (CHX) its widespread use in dentistry as an antimicrobial agent, however beyond acting disinfectant, it has been studied to maintain the stability of the bond strength. On the other hand, some authors have considered the hypothesis that the collagen fibers may not be as important for micromechanical union between dentin and composite resin, since there is evidence that the phosphoric acid itself can lead to a change in the structure molecular fibers, which can denature them. The aim of this study was evaluate the effect of thermal collagen denaturation and 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) application on resin-dentin bond strength in teeth restored with conventional adhesive. The study sample consisted of 30 human third molars, of which the dentin was exposed followed by phosphoric acid etching. The specimens were distributed in three main groups (CHX, thermal denaturation and control). Thermal denaturation consisted of immersion in water at 50ÂC for 10 minutes. Control and thermal denaturation groups was costumarily restored and CHX group was treated with 2% chlorhexidine after acid etching and before bonding. The specimens were stored in distilled water at 37ÂC for 24 hours or 6 months and then sectioned into sticks which were submitted to tensile bond testing at a crosshead speed of 1mm/min. The bond failure mode was observed by microscopy (40X). The results of the tensile bond test were expressed in MPa and analyzed with the tests of Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Levine, Snyder F, Tukey and Student t. In all groups bond strength decreased significantly over 6 months (p<0.05), but the loss of bond strength was smaller in the CHX group (16,08%) than in the control group (27,27%) and the thermal denaturation group (28,58%). The hybrid layer was extensively degraded over a period of 6 months. However, treatment with CHX reduced loss of bond strength in relation to controls. Thermal denaturation of collagen fibrils did not affect bond strength.
