January 1999 (has links)
This study examines Carlos Fuentes' reflection on the interpretation of the past as well as on its fictional representation. For this purpose we study Terra nostra (1975), the Mexican writer's most ambitious novel, because it breaks with the main concepts of historiography and the historical novel. With a circular gallery of text-mirrors structure, the novel is meant to represent the simultaneous aspects of reality, and to present to the reader different interpretations of the past. Fashioned from the concept of intertextuality, the terms "intertemporality" and "interdiscursivity" are used to define the notions of time and the discursive composition of history, integrated in the novel. With the term intertemporality, we examine how Fuentes deconstructs the chronological notion of time, creating instead a simultaneous and dialectical relation between past, present, and future. With the term of interdiscursivity, we see how Fuentes, in his quest to examine Spain's history, integrates in Terra nostra the thought from Giambattista Vico, Erasmus, Americo Castro, and Michel Foucault, as well as important literary figures (James Joyce, Julio Cortazar, Miguel de Cervantes, and Jorge L. Borges). The integration of these thinkers and writers ables the reader to create an interdiscursive notion of history that establishes a dynamic relation between the different discourses on history. From an image used by Borges in "Las ruinas Circulates", an epistemological structure quite different from the one suggested by the three parts of the novel emerges, allowing the reader to read a more open work. Aura (1962) is also studied, because in many ways, it is a prelude to Terra nostra, and because it is an early reflection on the relation between history and fiction. Finally, using the concepts of the double and the other, we also study Una familia lejana, which examines the relation between France and Mexico. We conclude on some paradoxes brought up by those novels, especially Terra

Pestana, Sandra Regina Facioli 16 April 2019 (has links)
Entre outros, f oram empregados os seguintes referenciais teóricos: Alejandro Jodorowski, bell hooks, Danièle Dehouve, Fausto Viana, Filomena Gregori, Guillermo Gómez-Peña, Henrietta Lidchi, Henrietta Moore, Ivonne Solano Chávez, Laurentz Seda, Miceas Eliade, Nízia Villaça, Peter Pál Pelbart, Renato Ortiz, Richard Shechner, Roberto Sifuentes, Stuart Hall e Valerie Steele. / This paper investigates the stage clothes (costumes) worn for theatrical performance, considering the peculiarities of their creation and use through a case study about the transnational collective La Pocha Nostra. The research focuses on stage clothes stemmed from praxes developed by the collective in the 1990s and 2010s, which are called reverse anthropology and radical tenderness, and observes them through the perspective of continuums--not as excluding poles, but rather as poles which generate a space that potentializes countless expressive possibilities--whose extremities are the deconstruction of the ethnical/historical/regional body and the construction of bodies in becoming, in the sense of bodies that are never configured as \"ready\", bodies that are in a constant process of remaking themselves. It was hypothesized that, as notions such as identity, gender and nationality, they were deconstructed and expanded during the processes of globalization (ORTIZ, 1994) or hybridization of cultures (CANCLINI, 2013), creations of scene costumes of La Pocha Nostra began to look for ways to generate bodies in becoming, making greater use of elements of body art and body modification. Moreover, this research also proposes reflections on the performance-pedagogy carried out by aforementioned collective, thus presenting experiences and considerations regarding the use of the methodology created by La Pocha Nostra both as a tool for the creation of theatrical stage clothes and as an instrument that enhances the formation or improvement of teachers and art educators who seek to turn their classrooms into horizontal spaces for the exchange of knowledge and the questioning of norms. The following theoretical references were used: Alejandro Jodorowski, bell hooks, Danièle Dehouve, Fausto Viana, Filomena Gregori, Guillermo Gómez-Peña, Henrietta Lidchi, Henrietta Moore, Ivonne Solano Chávez, Laurentz Seda, Miceas Eliade, Nízia Villaça, Peter Pál Pelbart, Renato Ortiz, Richard Shechner, Roberto Sifuentes, Stuart Hall and Valerie Steele.

IDENTIFYING PATTERNS OF MAFIA MOBILITY: THE PRESENCE OF THE ITALIAN MAFIAS IN EUROPE

SARNO, FEDERICA 02 March 2015 (has links)
Research on the spatial mobility of Italian mafias has frequently adopted a narrow approach, focusing on only one type of mafia or a single country. The few studies with a broader perspective do not examine in detail how different mafias operate across different countries. This study addresses these gaps by providing a first comprehensive analysis of the presence of Cosa Nostra, the Camorra and the 'Ndrangheta across Europe, with the aim of identifying patterns of mafia mobility. The study combines different data sources and different levels of analysis. Drawing from official reports, it firstly maps the spread of the Italian mafias in Europe and identifies the main characteristics of their presence abroad. Secondly, it focuses on three country case studies and, based on expert interviews, compares how different mafias operate across different countries. The results show that country-related and activity-related characteristics prevail over organizational ones in determining patterns of mafia mobility. Italian mafias concentrate in a few European countries and in specific areas within a country. Drug trafficking is the most recurrent feature of their presence abroad. The 'Ndrangheta is the only mafia which has a structured presence in Europe, although it does not reproduce its structures in all foreign countries.

Differently from the linear concept of history, the pre-Colombian tradition understands the world as a multiplicity of historical times, making it possible that several past ages become contemporary realities during the narrative. Terra Nostra goes through the time and space transversalities of Amerindian myths and the history of the New World conquistadors. Conquered and conquerors rescue the popular memory, hidden by the linear historical discourse, through imagination and poetical language, in a discontinuous, fragmented, polyphonic, carnivalized way, according to Mikhail Bakhtin, Walter Mignolo, Edgar Morin, Giambattista Vico. Terra Nostra can be considered as a parallel and alternative understanding of the reality that, at the same time, discusses Latin- American anthropogenesis, observes an unfinished past that is always present at the future conceptions, which are social and political utopias / A tese estabelece a relação tríptica entre os três mundos de Terra Nostra (1975) de Carlos Fuentes.
