A Gravity Approach to Modelling German Exports: The Role of Institutions / A Gravity Approach to Modelling German Exports: The Role of Institutions

Hadrová, Petra January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to implement the gravity model approach to identify and quantify determinants of bilateral trade flows of Germany and its trading partners, while focusing on the effect of institutions. Based on various gravity model techniques (clustered pooled OLS, Poisson Pseudo-Maximum Likelihood estimation, Hausman and Taylor estimation and Instrumental Variables regression), we have confirmed that the quality of institutions have a signifiant and positive effect on German exports. Depending on model specification and estimation technique, some institutions seem to effect German export more than others. We see the Hausman and Taylor estimator advisable for addressing endogeneity of institutions.

Ekonomické a geopolitické důsledky TPP a TTIP pro USA / Economic and Geopolitical Implications of TPP and TTIP for the United States

Šálený, Václav January 2016 (has links)
Multilateral trade negotiations within the World Trade Organization have reached a stalemate but there are new trade agreements being currently negotiated, either on bilateral or multinational basis. This thesis deals with two current major trade initiatives, the Trans-Pacific Partnership between the United States and eleven Pacific countries and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership which includes the United States and the European Union. The thesis uses a comparative analysis to assess economic as well as geopolitical implications of the two trade agreements for the United States. The most apparent geopolitical aspect is the effort of the United States to write the rules of trade for the 21st century before China does so. In regards to economic implications, the thesis works with a concept of intra-industry trade and based on it assesses the possible economic effects on the United States economy, especially in regards to productivity and transactional costs on labor market. Both of the agreements have many critics and their future is not clear. This thesis argues that in certain economic and geopolitical aspects, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is more beneficial and strategic for the United States.

Dynamika agrárního obchodu mezi Evropskou unií a zeměmi v regionu západní Afrika

Křížová, Rea January 2017 (has links)
This thesis aims to identify and subsequently analyse the agrarian foreign trade dynamics between the European Union and the countries of West Africa. All data are monitored over the last two decades and show the development trends of the agrarian sector in the relationship between EU 28 and West Africa as a whole; the author subsequently described selected countries of West Africa in detail. The first part of the thesis presents basic starting points for further analytical work. It is presented in the form of a literature review and includes theoretical insights into international trade and its development, points out the influence of globalisation and regionalisation and their impact on the agrarian trade. The first phase of the practical part deals with the territorial and commodity structure of trade where the development and position of the European Union in relation to the countries of West Africa is defined. The key product groups are identified and are evaluated in terms of selected attributes. Both the West Africa as whole and individual countries of the West African region were analysed from the point of view of being a global partner in the foreign trade. A retrospective assessment shows the importance of ongoing market liberalisation and the importance of the European Union as a trading partner for the area in question. In the last part, the possibilities of Czech foreign trade were analysed in the context of cooperation with the West African countries.
