The vertically-oriented organization : a theoretical perspectiveKurren, Beth M. 31 May 1977 (has links)
This study will focus on a particular program (The Area Agency on Aging) which was developed in response to the problems of fragmentation among the service delivery system for the aging.
In so doing, two very important questions will be answered:
1. To what extent do the characteristics of the Area Agency on Aging resemble a vertically-oriented organization?
2. To what extent does the Area Agency on Aging gear its activities toward the coordination of services for the elderly?
The basic assumption is that because the Area Agency on Aging resembles another vertically- oriented organization, its main focus of attention will be on internal concerns (i.e., survival) rather than inter-organizational activities.

Who Will Be Successful in The Gig Economy: Adaptability, Generations, Gender, Marriage, and ChildrenParker, Lianne 01 January 2017 (has links)
The Gig-Economy is an alternative way of describing a world where long-term employees turn into short-term independent contractors in charge of their own careers. The cross-sectional half of the current study will gather data from multiple generations of professionals and emerging professionals that assesses their career adaptabilities, gender, marital status, presence of children, and preference for the Gig Economy. Previous research has not analyzed these factors in combination with each other. The Millennial participants from the cross-sectional portion of the study will be tested once every five years as they progress through their careers on these same measures. Millennials will have more career adapt abilities than other generations, and will prefer the Gig Economy more than other generations. However, females will prefer the Gig Economy more than men, as it provides for more flexibility. Those who are married and especially those with children will prefer the Gig Economy more than those who are unmarried or without children. The information from the current study will be helpful to anyone currently working in or about to start working. It will allow career counselors information with which to best guide Millennials and all those struggling to find their way in the Gig Economy.

In order to survive and develop, these insurance companies would like to provoke their employees¡¦ conscious about this crisis and to re-assess the goal and achievement for their organizations. The project is designed for assisting H Insurance Brokerage Company to process the intervention activity about the organizational transformation.
Now-a-days most of the research topics about organizational transformation and development are focused on a big scale of structural convergence like system reengineering and strategic application or the research topics stress on the discussion about the effects element instead of the working process of organizational transformation execution. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is taking H insurance Brokerage Company as an example to apply Quasi-Experimental method to do the case study on organizational transformation process and the changing situation of organizational efficiency after the intervention activity, which was based on the action research.
Within one-year intervention process, this thesis is advanced with these three steps, searching for a fixed position, searching for a consensus, and developing the effective leadership. The production of these three steps is created for resolving the former problems and each of these steps includes ¡§ to diagnose, to plan, to execute,
to assess¡¨. At the same time, the research methods such as observations, interviews, conference records and document files as well as Quantitative method, were applied, including twice survey collections, document assessment and analysis. Based on the result from the analysis of these required information, this thesis discovers:
1.Both participants¡¦ ability and organizational performance are elevated through the research process of participatory activity.
2.This case-studied company re-news its location, develops its new goal, and completes its management tools like flowchart, system manual and operational manual after intervenient.
3.Both administrators and participants experienced this learning process of Learning- Internalization-action- improvement during the action research sessions.
4.Action research sessions allows both organization and its members to endlessly improve and develop within endlessly creative changing process.

Ao final do estudo são feitas recomendações para pesquisas complementares / Abstract: This study aimed at analyzing the model of organization and labor division, based on processes, as adopted in research units at Embrapa (Brazilian Agriculture Organization), and if it implied in a more flexible management model as compared to the structure based on functions. A survey has been developed, validated and applied with 28 questions regarding the different aspects of flexible management models by means of standardized likert-type answers on a fivepoint scale where "1" stood for full disagreement and "5" stood for full agreement. The survey was directed towards the intermediate management segment at Embrapa, with approximately 800 employees, located in survey units structured by process and function. The sample used consisted of 339 employees. Factorial analysis has indicated the single dimension feature ofthe survey and the means and standard deviations were calculated for the different groups under the comparisons: a) process vs. function; b) managers vs. non-managers; c) sector or process supervisors vs. former rewarded function employees; d) strategic objective managers vs. former rewarded function employees. In comparing process and function groups, results have indicated not to be a significant difference with regard to the perception related to organizational flexibility. In the analysis, the means presented for the function and process groups were respectively 2.94 and 2.96, thus not different statistically. In comparing the different function groups, the perception tending to organizational flexibility has been more acute among sector and process supervisors, which presented a perception shortly above the scale average, with 3.14 as the mean. The objective managers group has shown a smaller perception tending to organizational flexibility in all comparisons made. Recommendations for complementary research are given in the end of the study / Mestrado / Gestão da Qualidade Total / Mestre em Engenharia Mecânica

COLLABORATIVE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURES AMONG ARTIST MEMBER AND OTHER RELATED ORGANIZATIONSShackelford, Kelsey 01 January 2018 (has links)
Kentucky has a rich cultural and artistic tapestry that is part of the economic future of the state. An important consideration of this future is the artist-member organizations that serve Kentucky creatives and how they work together collaboratively, both internally and externally. The objective of this study was to see how ten different organizations viewed themselves and interacted with their communities in the way in which they are structure, or lack a definite structure as is the case with several different groups. Through web analysis and a series of interviews with organizations that provide benefits to Kentucky artists, we learn that there are no strict definitions to what these organizations are and that to continue, they will have to continue to become flexible and open to changes that may come their way.

The present work aims to present in a historical perspective the main transformations ocurred on American corporate governancefrom the beginning of the century XX until nowadays. In order to accomplish this task, besides the use of historical sources, the dissertation brings important theoretical elements to the best understanding of the issue. In this regard, it is useful to mention the use of Régulation Theory that helps to understand the changes in capitalism during the twentieth century and theoretical foundations offered by Agency Theory's approach Two models of business administration are identified in this period: one that was typical of the managerial capitalism until the decade of 1970 and another that prevails until present time, characterized by the centrality of financial decisions. In the first corporate governance model, the managerial decisions aiming growth in the long run wereassumed to depend extensively on innovations in a Schumpeterian perspective, while in the second, the primary motivation of shareholders tends to move to maximizing the applied capital in the short run / Mestrado / Historia Economica / Mestre em Ciências Econômicas
