A Method of Analyzing Linear Perspective for Presentation to Junior and Senior High School Students

Lacy, L'Louise Dial January 1950 (has links)
The general purpose of this study is to develop a series of peep shows, or visual models, which will enable the young student to understand what the laws of perspective are, how they were found, and why his drawings will appear to have three dimensions if he follows the rules. The study is based upon a widely accepted idea--that it is much easier for most people to understand and remember a principle when they can actually see how it works. When rules are merely memorized, one is not assisted by reason, which is essential for useful retention.

Corporate Social Responsibility in Botswana : a management perspective / Mooketsi Moiketso

Moiketso, Mooketsi January 2013 (has links)
This study focuses on corporate social responsibility from a management perspective. The study had the following objectives - to investigate the level of adoption of CSR by companies in Botswana; to find out why companies in Botswana have embraced CSR; to investigate the views of governments, pressure groups and stakeholders on companies which have embraced CSR in their communities; and to recommend to company management and stakeholders on how best they can use CSR to their best advantage. A Positivist (quantitative) strategy was used to execute this study and data capture was done through the use of a structured questionnaire. This instrument was issued to 100 members of management from companies based near Mahalapye and Gaborone. The response rate was 88%. The key findings were that many companies have CSR policies at their workplaces but they are not yet fully functional. Many companies have also embraced CSR for political mileage reasons only and to appear to be environmentally conscious. / Thesis (MBA) North-West University, Mafikeng Campus, 2013

Haile, Lidya, Aydogmus, Asmin January 2015 (has links)

Academic and professional pedagogy : a conceptual perspective

Ntshoe, I.M., Holzbaur, U.D. January 2012 (has links)
Published Article / This paper examines the discourses on technical vocation education and training (TVET) adopting a comparative perspective. In particular, we critically analyse the notion of academic and professional pedagogy to embed curriculum and pedagogy at Universities of Technology (UoTs) in South Africa and at the Central University of Technology (CUT). This is conducted by analysing the term, vocational pedagogy within the context of Universities of Applied Sciences (UASs) and Universities of Technology (UT) in Germany, and Universities of Technology (UoTs) in South Africa, respectively. We then proceed by exploring the idea of an Institute of Pedagogy at the Central University of Technology (CUT) that will become a centre of excellence where research on professional pedagogy will be undertaken by staff and students from CUT and other institutions, as well as other bodies, including government and the employer/industry.

Du Plessis, Ilze 11 1900 (has links)
The goal of this study was to explore how the contact making process influence the awareness level of primary school teachers. The study was mainly explorative with elements of a descriptive study. With a qualitative study the researcher explored how awareness influenced primary school teachers‟ experiences of wellness. The theoretical point of view of this study is the Gestalt therapeutically philosophy with phenomenology as base. Perls, the father of Gestalt psychology saw Gestalt as the only psychotherapy that is exclusively based on phenomenology. The central Phenomenology principal is that a person is free with the responsibility to influence his/her own environment. Data for this study was collected through a focus group consisting of seven people, (teachers of Gauteng) with whom semi structured interviews were conducted and open-ended questions were asked. This is only an explorative study and therefore the researcher is not really looking for a representative sampling. Findings of this study include that sensory awareness can be used to change wellbeing. Age played a role in resistance and even though the teachers knew about wellbeing it became clear that they were not aware of how to create wellness in their own lives. It came about that some of the participants had to deal with contact boundary disturbances. The study also showed that burned out people operates automatically. The researcher makes the statement that contact boundary disturbances lead to auto actions as in the case of burned-out people. The study showed that awareness makes a shift on the continuum of burnout and wellbeing. In this study it was not always a positive shift, but the researcher feels that the people who had a negative experience will be more secure if this research is conducted in a therapeutic environment. The study also indicated that it is necessary for teachers to learn skills to be good for them selves without feeling guilty.

Hansson, Linn, Lorensson, Lena January 2016 (has links)

Allegory, It Happens: A Multi-Perspective Case Study of The Lord of the Rings

Melanson, Michael January 2016 (has links)
Allegory is not obsolete as Samuel Coleridge and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe have claimed. It is alive and well and has transformed from a restrictive concept to a concept that is flexible and can form to meet the needs of the author or reader. The most efficient way to evidence this is by making a case study of it with a suitable work that will allow us to perceive its plasticity. This essay uses J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings as a multi-perspective case study of the concept of allegory; the size and complexity of the narrative make it a suitable choice. My aim is to illustrate the plasticity of allegory as a concept and illuminate some of the possibilities and pitfalls of allegory and allegoresis. As to whether The Lord of the Rings can be treated as an allegory, it will be examined from three different perspectives: as a purely writerly process, a middle ground of writer and reader and as a purely readerly process. The Lord of the Rings will then be compared to a series of concepts of allegorical theory such as Plato’s classical “The Ring of Gyges”, William Langland’s classic The Vision of William Concerning Piers the Plowman and contemporary allegories of racism and homoeroticism to demonstrate just how adaptable this concept is. The position of this essay is that the concept of allegory has changed over time since its conception and become more malleable. This poses certain dangers as allegory has become an all-round tool for anyone to do anything that has few limitations and has lost its early rigid form and now favours an almost anything goes approach.

Lagerström, Micaela January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this study is to explore how children experience their social community in the preschool and see how norms and views in the preschool environment could be related to a structural perspective on bullying. I have interviewed six children, five or six years old, about norms, relationships, inclusion, exclusion, friendship and violations in the preschool. There have been a total of six interviews with two to three children in each interview. During the first two interviews I read two children’s books and the discussed them with the children. The third interview included questions about relationships and violations based on the books and the children’s earlier answers. I have analyzed the interviews to see how the children’s answers correspond to research about norms, relationships, inclusion, exclusion, friendship and violations in the preschool and bullying from a structural perspective. The research states that gender and age are the two main reasons for exclusion in the preschool, and that age can be a social resource which can be used to exercise power over younger children. The results show that the children answers correspond quite well with what the research tells us. They emphasize on the importance of being nice, and they react strongly towards violence and psychological violations. They show awareness of gender norms and equality, but this is not always the case when it comes to age differences. My conclusion from this study is that there is a gap between what the research states about age in the preschool and how age and age norms are actually being addressed in the preschool, on an organizational, group and individual level. The children’s views on age norms in the preschool could be a sign that violations between children of different age groups could be accepted within preschools, which could in turn be a starting point for bullying.

Performance in Franchise Systems : The Franchisee Perspective

Asgharian Bourkheili, Ehsan January 2015 (has links)
During the last decades, franchising as an organizational form has received a lot of attention from researchers and practitioners alike. While many studies have examined various aspects of franchising from the franchisor's perspective, little research has taken the franchisee’s perspective. Therefore, given the importance of franchisees in a franchise system, the lack of research about consequences from the franchisee's perspective, and that many of the previous studies have taken a top-bottom view, this research concentrated on the franchisee's performance. This study focused on business format franchising in the restaurant industry in two countries, Iran and Sweden. In this study, the three perspectives of entrepreneurship, strategic management, and marketing were used to study the franchisee’s performance. Moreover, the resourcebased view, relational view, and relational exchange theory have been used to find the influential factors in a franchisee’s performance. Therefore, by considering franchising as a mutual relationship and examining the influential factors in a franchisee's performance, the related factors of both the franchisor and franchisee, as well as the relationship between them, were examined. According to the franchisee’s related factors, the franchisor's related factors, and the relationship and environmental factors, 12 main hypotheses and 9 sub-hypotheses were developed. In total, 191 usable questionnaires from Sweden and Iran, comprising a response rate of 22 percent, were returned from the franchisees. In this study, confirmatory factor analysis was used to test the construct measurement; to test the hypothesis, hierarchical multiple regression analysis was performed. Moreover, the Chow test was conducted to integrate the data from these two countries. A primary contribution of this study is taking a bottom-top view in franchising research. This study also provided a detailed and holistic view about the consequences of franchising for franchisees. Moreover, this study, offers important contributions toward understanding entrepreneurial activities, as a controversial issue, in franchising outlets. The results provide interesting insights into the franchisee’s performance. While the franchisees’ related factors of absorptive capacity, Kirznerian entrepreneurial orientation, and social capital positively affected their performance, Schumpeterian entrepreneurial orientation and human capital did not affect their performance. Moreover, the franchisor’s related factors of system profitability, brand reputation, advertisement and providing raw material had a positive influence on the performance. However, training did not cause a difference in the franchisee’s performance. All relationship factors also positively affected the performance, and conflict and satisfaction mediated the relationship between trust and performance. Finally, the implications of this study and suggestions for further contributions in this stream of research are discussed.
