The experimental design was randomized blocks with four replications in a split plot with four times the cutting portions 15, 30, 60 and 120 days after application (DAA) and subplots seven types of chemical maturators in their respective strengths per hectare glyphosate (0.4 L ha-¹), paraquat (2.0 L ha-¹), fluazifop-p-butyl (0.4 L ha-¹), ethephon (0.67 L ha-¹), etyl-trinexapac (1.0 L ha-¹), sulfometuron methyl (0.02 kg ha-¹) , KNO3 (3.0 kg ha-¹) and control (without the application of maturators). In all applications was used 0.1% v/v wetting agent etilenoxi-ethanol. The maturators were applied on the date of 22 May 10 in sugarcane ratoon 3rd cut with the aid of a knapsack sprayer with a metal tube with 1.20 m boom length and dual output each with a spray tip range ADIA type 11002 and spray 220 L ha-1 at constant rate. The KNO3 contributed to improving the productivity (TCH) by 43% compared to the control and the more favorable harvesting time to TCH was comprised of 60 to 120 days after application (DAA), compared to other times of harvest. The use of etyl-trinexapac, sulfometuron methyl and KNO3 resulted in an increase of 12, 13 and 14% for the variables ATR, Brix and PC, respectively, compared to the control at 120 days after application (DAA) of the maturators. In this way, the harvesting time most suitable for ratoon cane was at 120 days after application (DAA) of maturators and the control as provided in these conditions gains of 40, 32 and 42% for ATR, Brix and PC compared to their respective earliest epochs of reference (EER) EERatr, EERbrix and EERpc / O objetivo da realização deste experimento foi avaliar os efeitos da ação da testemunha (sem a aplicação de maturadores) e dos maturadores glifosato, paraquat, fluazifop-p-butil, ethephon, etyl-trinexapac, sulfometuron metil e KNO3 sobre o número de colmos por área, diâmetro do terço médio de colmos e produtividade ou toneladas de colmos por hectare, e o brix, pol da cana e açúcar total recuperável da cana-soca.

Kohatsu, Douglas Seijum, 1976- January 2007 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: This work's objective was to evaluate the effects of plant growth regulators on gas exchange during plant development and on post harvest quality of Galileu cantaloupes stored at conditions atmosphere. The first stage of the assay was conducted in a greenhouse (protected cultivation of cantaloupe plants), in the experimental area of São Manuel's Experimental Farm/UNESP, Botucatu, SP. The treatments were applied in the beginning of the reproductive stage, and 15 and 30 days after the first application. Gas exchange measurements were performed from 0800 to 1100 a.m, both in control plants and plants treated with plant growth regulators, on the previous and subsequent day from application. Ci, A, gs, and E were evaluated with a LI-COR model LI-6400 "Infra Red Gas Analyzer - IRGA". The cantaloupe plants were treated in the field (T1 controls, T2 GA3 (gibberellic acid) 100 mg L-1, T3 IBA (indolebutyric acid) 100 mg L-1, T4- kinetin 100 mg L-1, T5- GA3 + IBA + kinetin mixture at 5%), and fruits were harvest (51 days after the first application) and transported to the Fruits and Vegetables Laboratory of Departamento de Gestão e Tecnologia Agroindustrial/UNESP, Botucatu, SP. The fruits were evaluated every 5 days during a 20-day storage period. Alterations in post harvest quality were detected through analyses comprising fresh weight loss, firmness, titratable acidity, pH, soluble solids, SS/TA ratio, total sugars, reduced sugars and sucrose, and activity of the enzymes peroxidase (POD), pectin methylesterase (PME), and polygalacturonase (PG). Macronutrients and micronutrients were analyzed at harvest time. The statistical design consisted of randomized blocks including a control, in addition to four treatments and four replicates that corresponded to blocks. Under the conditions in which the experiment was conducted, the results allow us to... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre

Responses of two grass species to plant growth regulators, fertilizer N, chelated Fe, salinity and water stress

Nabati, Daryoosh A. 12 October 2005 (has links)
A series of studies were initiated to investigate growth responses of Kentucky bluegrass (Poa praetensis L.) and creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Huds.) to foliar applications of two plant growth regulators (PGR) and/or chelated Fe (Na Fe diethylene triamine pentaacetate). Environmental variables considered were N levels, soil moisture regimes, and saline irrigations. The two materials investigated for PGR properties were a commercial product called Roots (a cold-water extract of seaweed and peat humus fortified with "intermediate metabolites" and thiamine) and the systemic fungicide propiconazole, trade name: (Banner) and chemical name: [1- {(2-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-4-propyl-l,3-dioxolan-2yl}methyl-l H-1,2,4-triazole]. Fortified seaweed extract (FSE) was applied at 9.3 L/ha, and propiconazole (PPC) was applied at 0.93 L a.i/ha. Each was applied alone or in conjunction with chelated Fe at 0.11 kg a.i/ha. Kentucky bluegrass foliage height, root and shoot dry weight, and several foliar nutrients increased following PGR treatments when grown under either limited soil moisture or saline irrigation. Foliar applications of PGR and/or chelated Fe to creeping bentgrass reduced wilting and evapotranspiration, and increased leaf water status, root strength, and shoot dry matter at two levels of N during and after drought stress. / Ph. Influence of ethephon on growth and flowering of flue-cured tobacco

Fowlkes, Donald James January 1985 (has links)
Tobacco (<i>Nicotiana tabacum</i> L.) leaf initiation stops when floral induction is completed. Floral induction (an internal biochemical change which signals development of flowers) can occur prematurely, during the pre- and/or post-transplant environment. Plants which flower prematurely have few leaves and low yields. Removal of the influorescence on these plants will break apical dominance and allow production of additional leaves from axillary bud. This practice requires additional labor and increases production costs. Objectives of this study were to 1) determine how application timing, rate, localization, and on-plant duration of ethephon (2-chloroethylphosphonic acid) influences growth and flowering of flue-cured ‘NC 82’ tobacco; 2) examine the relationship between temperatures in the seedling environment and premature flowering and determine how time of plant bed cover removal affects premature flowering; and 3) quantify the ethylene released from buds, leaves, stems, and roots of tobacco seedlings at various days after application of ethephon. Ethephon applied to flue-cured tobacco seedlings before the completion of floral induction significantly reduced premature flowering and increased days to flower, number of leaf nodes per plant, and yield. Multiple applications and increased rates of ethephon did not increase the number of leaf nodes beyond the level obtained from a single application of 960 mg L⁻¹ ethephon solution applied at the rate of 44 mL m⁻² of plant bed. In wash-off studies, maximum benefit was obtained when ethephon remained on the seedlings one to two hours after application. In localization studies, increases in number of leaf nodes per plant were not different when 0.09 and 0.51 mg of ethephon was applied to the bud and largest leaf, respectively. Ethylene released from ethephon-treated greenhouse seedlings remained detectable four weeks after treatment. On-farm test locations with the two highest percentages of premature flowering had the lowest average daily minimum temperatures during the pretransplant period. Premature flowering was significantly increased at two of seven locations by removal of the perforated plastic plant bed covers two weeks compared to one week before transplanting. Floral induction of tobacco seedlings in controlled pretransplant environments was obtained by continuous 15°C temperature and 8 h photoperiods for 3 weeks. / Ph. D.
