Vendor Lock-in in the transistion to a Cloud Computing platform

Fawzy Kamel, Menatalla Ashraf January 2015 (has links)
The thesis introduces a study about the vulnerabilities that a company as Scania IT faces towards vendor lock-in in the transition to a cloud computing platform. Cloud computing is a term that refers to anetwork of remote servers hosted on the internet to store, manage and process data, rather than on a local server or a personal computer. Vendor lock-in is an outcome that causes companies to pay a significant cost to move between cloud providers. The effects that cause vendor lock-in that will be described are portability, interoperability and federation are called the lock-in effects. The goal of the research is to help Scania IT understand the vendor lock-in and the vulnerabilities they can face in the transition to the cloud as well as to clarify the concern that they may have against falling in vendor lock-in. The main purpose of the research is to present the various lock-in effects that are related to the transition from one cloud provider to another and the vulnerabilities that cause companies to fall in vendor lock-in. The thesis presents the reasons that motivates why Scania IT would consider using the cloud and the concerns that they may have against usage of a cloud computing platform. The results will be based on a case study of a similar company that has moved to a cloud provider and specifically Microsoft Azure and an interview of Microsoft Azure point of view with the risk of vendor lock-in. Finally, a process of interviews with different people from Scania IT to extract the current bottleneck in the development process that caused the company to think of a cloud computing platform. The results show that companies should consider many risks and factors while moving to the cloud, as vendor lock-in, cloud maturity index and their IT strategies. As a result, the thesis gives recommendations of the steps needed to minimize the risks of the cloud while maintaining the positivity of the cloud.

Low-code Performance Evaluation and its Impact on Software Development / Low-code prestandautvärdering och dess påverkan på mjukvaruutveckling

Janetzky, Fredrik, Wallin, Markus January 2024 (has links)
Low-code is a modern approach to software development and has grown rapidly in recent years. By hiding complexity behind layers of abstraction, it allows inexperienced developers to create complex applications in a shorter amount of time. This thesis sets out to evaluate the current state of low-code as well as a few of the available low-code development platforms and how well their finished applications perform. A simple order management system was implemented in three low-code development platforms, Mendix, OutSystems, and Airtable, in order to gain experience in all of them. The platforms were then evaluated with respect to user experience and performance. The created applications load time and memory usage were measured in three different tests. It was found that there are plenty of low-code platforms that exist for different purposes, and that they all have their own learning curve depending on how flexible they aim to be. The performance of their respectively created applications is also similar to each other, with the only major differences being by design.

Cloud computing : A step to the future of IT

Borza, Laurentiu January 2010 (has links)
The aim of our research paper is to depict and analyze the new trends and changes happening in the Information Technology industry during the recent years, that are most likely to have a long-lasting impact on how the usage of software technology is evolving. The overall trend that we are noticing in this market is about shifting more and more software applications from local computers to online networks generally known as The Cloud (the concept itself is named Cloud Computing). The reason for choosing this topic is that, overall, the Information Technology industry is deeply involved in our everyday lives. Therefore, it is important for us as individuals or businesses to be aware of the new trends happening in this field and learn how we can benefit from them. We will research these trends from the perspective of the providers of Cloud Computing services. We will analyze the challenges of establishing a new market for these services and debate the pros and cons of being the first mover or follower among big and small players. We will also investigate whether there is a dominant design under development. As means for our analysis, we will research the three main technologies used as a mean to implement the new concept of Cloud Computing, which are Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). One result of our study is that the main players on the Cloud Computing market do not think in terms of national markets or geographical borders about their products. Since they are providing online services, we conclude that it is normal for all the players to see the market as one single entity rather than limiting themselves to geographical areas, which are obviously irrelevant for the Internet market. Another result is that there is confusion among the players when it comes to defining Cloud Computing, Software as a Service and Platform as a Service and the difference between these concepts. We consider as the main reasons for this confusion the fact that the Cloud Computing industry is not yet standardized, and every firm is having its own way of dealing with these new concepts. However, we believe that there is a complex market system under way. All the firms are apparently waiting for a technological standardization or a dominant design, before they will fully adopt and implement this technology. Moreover, most companies we analyzed believe that Cloud Computing will be, one way or another, the future in the Information Technology and Communication industry.

OAuth 2.0 Authentication Plugin for SonarQube

Lavesson, Alexander, Luostarinen, Christina January 2018 (has links)
Many web services today give users the opportunity to sign in using an account belonging to a different service. Letting users authenticate themselves using another service eliminates the need of a user having to create a new identity for each service they use. Redpill Linpro uses the open source platform SonarQube for code quality inspection. Since developers in the company are registered users of another open source platform named OpenShift, they would like to authenticate themselves to SonarQube using their OpenShift identity. Our task was to create a plugin that offers users the functionality to authenticate themselves to SonarQube using OpenShift as their identity provider by applying the authentication framework OAuth. Theproject resulted in a plugin of high code quality according to SonarQube’s assessment. RedpillLinpro will use the plugin to easily access SonarQube’s functionality when using theapplication in their developer platform.

Cloud Computing : Security Risks, SLA, and Trust

Ambrose, William, Athley, Samuel, Dagland, Niclas January 2010 (has links)
With Cloud Computing becoming a popular term on the Information Technology (IT) market, security and accountability has become important issues to highlight. In our research we review these concepts by focusing on security risks with Cloud Computing and the associated services; Software, Platform and Infrastructure (SPI) and connecting them with a social study of trust. The method that was conducted during our research was reviewing secondary literature, interviewing different experts regarding Cloud Computing and relating standards already established by ENISA, NIST, and CSA to the interviews. The result of this study shows connections between the specific SPIs, both how they compare, but also how they differ. In the end we were also able to rank the top security risks from interviews with experts and see which SPI could be the most insecure one and  what countermeasures could be applied. This was further related to trust and Service Level Agreement (SLA) in Cloud Computing to show how the security risks we discuss are related to these two specific areas. By highlighting this we wanted to present useable information for both clients and providers in how to create a better Cloud Computing environment.
