Space Plug-and-Play Architecture Networking: A Self-Configuring Heterogeneous Network ArchitectureChristensen, Jacob Holt 01 December 2012 (has links)
The Space Plug-and-Play Architecture (SPA) networking approach outlined in this dissertation is an improvement over the previous approach used by the Satellite Data Model(SDM). The first improvement is the introduction of a SPA network model based on the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model. Second, a new addressing and routing scheme is presented, which places the burden of routing on the network infrastructure instead of the network endpoints. These improvements have been implemented in a software infrastructure called the SPA Services Manager (SSM). The SSM was developed under an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 certified development process, the details of which are presented. A collection of network timing graphs that measure latency and jitter of the SPA network is contained in this dissertation, as well as a runtime memory footprint. The maturity of the development process and these initial performance measurements demonstrate that the SSM is qualified for spaceflight.

Nuestro pa s posee un gran potencial hidr aulico para la generaci on de energ a el ectrica constituido
por gran variedad de ca das de agua y r os de peque~nos caudales (40 a 60 [l/s]). Sin embargo
no existe en el mercado una soluci on tecnol ogica que permita su utilizaci on independiente de la
caracter sticas del recurso que se tenga; modo de operaci on que se desee, sea conectado a la red
el ectrica y/o en forma aislada; que sea de utilizaci on simple y posea una interfaz amigable para el
usuario nal. En adici on a lo anterior no se observa en la literatura internacional un esfuerzo por
automatizar este tipo de medio de generaci on, lo que constituye un nicho de desarrollo tecnol ogico
para el pa s.
A modo de mejorar las soluciones existentes de micro-generaci on ( 1 a 100 [kW]) y resolver el
problema anterior, se origina en el Centro de Energ a de la Universidad de Chile, la idea de dise~nar
una m aquina inteligente que pueda operar en las condiciones antes mencionadas. Surge la Micro
Central Hidr aulica (MCH) \Plug & Play".
El objetivo de este trabajo de t tulo es dise~nar e implementar un sistema de control electr onico
autom atico para esta MCH inteligente de 10 [kW] de potencia, que permita explotar peque~nos
recursos hidr aulicos mediante la aplicaci on de electr onica para su automatizaci on.
Se toma un modelo gen erico de MCH y se complementa para obtener una simulaci on de la
planta y de los controladores de frecuencia y tensi on en operaci on en vac o y con carga aislada. Se
aprovechan los actuadores de los que se dispone y modi ca su accionamiento manual a autom atico.
Se consigue implementar controladores de tipo PI, con cuidado de la sintonizaci on, que muestran
que una estrategia de este tipo es su ciente para controlar un generador sincr onico como el
de la MCH. Se implementa el control de tensi on mediante modi caci on de corriente de campo a
trav es de un chopper y el control de frecuencia a trav es de resistencias de desahogo, modi cando
su potencia consumida.
Se obtiene como resultado nal un prototipo de planta MCH, incluyendo la electr onica que
necesita para su operaci on y la programaci on del sistema de control. Constituy endose de esta forma
la experiencia adquirida en hardware y software la mayor parte del aprendizaje.
A futuro se propone modi car el hardware por componentes super ciales a modo de reducir
espacio utilizado. Modi car los actuadores por otros m as e cientes. Y como recomendaci on nal
se propone reemplazar los actuadores por un equipo de electr onica de potencia que permita que
la MCH genere seg un el recurso hidr aulico y el equipo se encargue de adecuar la generaci on a los
valores deseados de tensi on y frecuencia.

The report deals with a bachelor’s degree project in Product Development and Design at Jönköping University 2018. The thesis was carried out on behalf of Orkla House Care AB as the concluding part of the Mechanical Engineering program. The work was carried out by Adrian Stanikowski and Carina Wirén. The work consisted of developing an extensional concept on a plug-and-play system. Orkla House Care AB bought Anza, a manufacturer of various painting tools, in 2012. Selected products have an extensibility that gives them a more ergonomic approach to painting ceilings, walls, and floors. The existing extension system has an outgoing patent and therefore Orkla House Care has designed this project focusing on product development and construction. To get a clearer picture of what users are looking for at the product, a preliminary study was carried out. After the completion of this preliminary study, a product specification could be created. At the idea generation phase, all ideas were recorded where the product specification was omitted to avoid limiting creative thinking. The specification was then the foundation of the final concepts chosen by screening. The work focused on creating a user-friendly extension system that clearly shows the function. The focus area has primarily included the elimination of the end plug of the extensible tool, as well as avoiding the use of buttons for attachment and detachment. This focus is to avoid as many misunderstandings for the user as possible. The result of the work was a new plug-and-play system with a new design solution. / Rapporten behandlar ett examensarbete inom Produktutveckling och Design vid Tekniska Högskolan på Jönköpings University 2018. Examensarbetet utfördes på uppdrag av Orkla House Care AB som avslutande del av utbildningen Maskinteknik. Arbetet har utförts av Adrian Stanikowski och Carina Wirén. Arbetet bestod av att ta fram ett koncept på ett plug-and-play system. Orkla House Care AB köpte 2012 upp Anza som tillverkar olika måleriverktyg. Utvalda produkter erbjuder en förlängningsbarhet. Detta innebär ett mer ergonomiskt arbetssätt för att måla tak, väggar, och golv. Det befintliga förlängningssystemet har ett utgående patent och därför har Orkla House Care utformat ett examensarbete med fokus på produktutveckling och konstruktion. För att få en tydligare bild på vad användarna söker hos produkten utfördes en förstudie. Efter genomförd förstudie kunde en produktspecifikation skapas. Vid idégenereringen antecknades alla idéer ner där produktspecifikationen utelämnades för att inte begränsa det kreativa tänkandet. Specifikation låg sedan grund till de slutliga koncept som sedan valdes genom sållning. Arbetet inriktades mot att skapa ett användarvänligt förlängningssystem där funktionen tydligt framgår. Fokusområdet har främst inkluderat elimineringen av ändpluggen på det förlängningsbara verktyget samt att undvika knappsats på klickkonan. Detta för att minska missförstånd för användaren. Resultatet av arbetet var ett nytt plug-and-play system med ny designlösning.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi o desenvolvimento de um sistema de aquisição, processamento e armazenamento de sinais adquiridos de um arranjo de sensores embasado na norma IEE 1451.4 , resultando num sistema de sensores plug&play. O sistema de aquisição de sinais proposto permitirá monitorar diversos tipos de sensores para as mais variadas aplicações nos campos da área biomédica, automação industrial, monitoramento ambiental dentre outras. O sistema de aquisição proposto é constituído por um módulo chamado de STIM (\"Smart Transducer Interface Module\") cujo elemento principal é um microcontrolador com arquitetura RISC de propósito geral, [Johnson 2001]. O módulo STIM é conectado a um computador via interface serial (RS232) para transmitir dados dos sensores e receber comandos de controle. Os sensores analógicos aqui utilizados foram adequados ao sistema utilizando-se da técnica chamada MMI (Mixed Mode Interface) em conformidade com a norma IEEE 1451.4, transformando os sensores em um sistema plug&play. advances in networking and telemetry technology to meet emerging needs of major test programs.
In the past these programs have been constrained by vendor proprietary equipment configuration
utilities that force a significant learning curve on the part of instrumentation personnel to
understand hardware idiosyncrasies and require significant human interaction and manipulation of
data to be exchanged between different components of the end-to-end test system.
This paper describes an ongoing effort to develop a measurement-centric data model of airborne
data acquisition systems.
The motivation for developing such a model is to facilitate hardware and software
interoperability and to alleviate the need for vendor-specific knowledge on the part of the
instrumentation engineer. This goal is driven by requirements derived from scenarios collected
by the iNET program.
This approach also holds the promise of decreased human interaction with and manipulation of
data to be exchanged between system components.

Harnessing synthetic biology for the bioprospecting and engineering of aromatic polyketide synthasesCummings, Matthew January 2018 (has links)
Antimicrobial resistant microorganisms are predicted to pose an existential threat to humanity inside of the next 3 decades. Characterisation of novel acting antimicrobial small molecules from microorganisms has historically counteracted this evolutionary arms race, however the bountiful source of pharmaceutically relevant bioactive specialised metabolites discovered in the Golden era of drug discovery has long since dried up. The clinicians' arsenal of useful antimicrobials is diminishing, and a fresh perspective on specialised metabolite discovery is necessary. This call to action is being answered, in part, through advances in genome sequencing, bioinformatics predictions and the development of next generation synthetic biology tools aiming to translate the biological sciences into an engineering discipline. To expedite our route to new pharmaceutically relevant specialised metabolites using the synthetic biology toolbox several bottlenecks need to be addressed, and are tackled here in. Biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) represent blueprints to pharmaceuticals, however to date the vast wealth of knowledge about biosynthetic gene clusters is inconsistently reported and sporadically disseminated throughout the literature and databases. To bring the reporting of BGCs in line with engineering principles we designed and built a community supported standard, the Minimum Information about a Biosynthetic Gene cluster (MIBiG), for reporting BGCs in a consistent manner, and centralised this information in an easy to operate and open access repository for rapid retrieval of information, an essential resource for the bioengineer. Prioritisation represents the next bottleneck in specialised metabolite discovery. Bioinformatics tools have predicted a cache of thousands of BGCs within publicly available genome sequences, however high experimental attrition rates drastically slows characterisation of the corresponding specialised metabolite. We designed and built an Output Ordering and Prioritisation System (OOPS), to rank thousands of BGCs in parallel against molecular biology relevant parameters, pairing BGCs with appropriate heterologous expression hosts and facilitating a judicious choice of BGCs for characterisation to reduce experimental attrition. To fully realise the potential of synthetic biology in specialised metabolite discovery a genetically amenable heterologous host, capable of completing rapid design-build-test-learn cycles, is necessary. This cannot be achieved for the pharmaceutically important type II polyketides, as their biosynthetic machinery is largely restricted to Actinobacteria. Using MIBiG datasets, antiSMASH and BLASTP we identify 5 sets of soluble type II polyketide synthases (PKS) in Escherichia coli for the first time. We construct and test the robustness of a plug-and-play scaffold for bioproduction of aromatic polyketides using one PKS in E. coli, yielding anthraquinones, dianthrones and benzoisochromanequinones intermediates. Through bioprospecting for biological 'parts' to expand the chemical diversity of our plug-and-play scaffold we describe a new lineage of type II PKSs predominantly from non-Actinobacteria. The standards, softwares, and plug-and-play scaffold and biosynthetic 'parts' described here-in will act as an engine for rapid and automated bioproduction of existing, and novel, pharmaceutically relevant aromatic polyketides in E. coli using the synthetic biology toolbox.

PROVIDING A PERSISTENT SPACE PLUG-AND-PLAY AVIONICS NETWORK ON THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATIONJacobs, Zachary A. 01 January 2013 (has links)
The CubeLab is a new payload standard that greatly improves access to the International Space Station (ISS) for small, rapid turn-around microgravity experiments. CubeLabs are small (less than 16”x8”x4” and under 10kg) modular payloads that interface with the NanoRacks Platform aboard the ISS. CubeLabs receive power from the station and transfer data using the standard terrestrial plug-and-play Universal Serial Bus (USB). The Space Plug-and-play Avionics (SPA) architecture is a modular technology for spacecraft that provides an infrastructure for modular satellite components to reduce the time to orbit and development costs for satellites. This paper describes the development of a bus capable of interfacing SPA-1 payloads in the CubeLab form-factor aboard the ISS. This CubeLab also provides the “discover and join” functionality that is necessary for a SPA-1 network of devices. This will ultimately provide persistent SPA capabilities on the ISS which will allow users to send SPA-1 devices to orbit for on-the-fly installation by astronauts.
