Information technology project managers' productivity and project success: the influence of polychronic communication

Coetzee, Basil B. 10 September 2014 (has links)
This research focuses on the role that polychronic Communication (PC) plays in the productivity and project success of Information Technology (IT) Project Managers (PMs). PC refers to a communication style where the communicator switches rapidly between several conversations, irrespective of topic similarity, instead of completing one conversation before starting another. An online questionnaire collected data from Information Technology workers in multiple industries across the globe. The data consisted out of two distinct groups: IT PMs (n = 202) and IT project team members (n = 122). Statistical analysis on the dataset considered the perspectives of both participant groups, first separately and then combined. The results showed relationships between: 1. IT PMs’ individual polychronicity and their PC. 2. IT PMs’ PC and their opinion of the influence of PC on the success of the projects that they are managing. 3. IT PMs’ PC and their opinion of the influence of PC on their productivity. 4. IT PMs’ PC and the corporate polychronicity of their employers. In addition, when IT PMs rate their PC, the rating is lower than when other IT project team members rate the IT PMs’ PC. By contrast, there was no difference between IT PMs rating the influence of their PC on their project success and productivity versus IT project teams rating the influence of the IT PMs’ PC on their project success and productivity. These findings contribute to the factors that a corporation has to consider in hiring new IT PMs or training their current IT PMs. / Information Science / M. Sc. (Information Systems)

The role of assurance within project management standards / Role dohledu ve standardech projektového řízení

Koch, Ondřej January 2016 (has links)
The thesis is focused on the role of assurance within project management standards. Firstly, the theoretical role of assurance was established based on the performed research. Three main areas of interest have been identified: Assurance over business, the project itself and the product. The role established in the theoretical part of the work was subsequently compared to information systems development methodologies and project management standards. From the comparison with AUP, Scrum and FDD methodologies, it seems that the better assurance is defined, the longer the feedback cycle is. During the comparison with the three most widespread project management standards - IPMA, PRINCE2 and PMBOK - various areas have been identified where these are not fully compliant with the theoretical role of assurance. Additions to IPMA and PMBOK have been created to support the compliance with the theoretically established role of assurance, fulfilling the objective set for the practical part of the work and providing benefits to IT project management professionals that struggle to deliver quality products while following one of the aforementioned standards.

Projektové metodiky a psychologické aspekty řízení lidských zdrojů / Project methodologies and psychological aspects of human resource management

Svoboda, Jiří January 2006 (has links)
Although there is a growing influence of psychology and human resources in modern management, this area is being often neglected in theory and particularly in praxis of project management. This area offers a big potential for improvement of performance of project teams and increase of teamwork efficiency. Therefore this thesis is focused on human factor in project management and the opportunity for using psychology, especially the theory of motivation and teamwork. There were set more main goals of thesis they can be split in two groups. In the first group there are research goals aimed on teamwork in project teams managed by agile or traditional methods, establishment of project teams, characteristics of projects suitable for agile approach and implementation of agile methods in a company. The proposal of solution of identified problem areas belongs to the second group of goals. According to the research results agile project teams are closer to psychological concept of team, whilst traditional project teams are closer to work groups. Therefore agile project teams have better potential for being more efficient and performing higher than the project teams managed by traditional methods. Another finding in this thesis is regarding setting up the project teams and their daily work. Although agile methods seem to be more efficient from the teamwork perspective, they don't offer general solution for all problems in project management and their usage is not necessary suitable for all kinds of projects and company environment. That's why the characteristics of appropriate projects for being managed by agile methods were also investigated. Successful implementation and application of agile methods is strongly influenced by company environment and other factors that were identified in theoretical part of the thesis and subsequently verified by the research. The thesis brings a lot of verified information regarding work in project teams and emphasizes the significance of management, motivation and development of project teams. For identified problem areas with significant potential for improvement were prepared two solution proposals included in final parts of the thesis. The first solution is a model for implementation of project methodology in a company; the second one is a model aimed on project team performance increase. Both proposed solutions offers specific tools and techniques ready for application in company environment.

Rodriguez Montañez, Patricia Jacqueline, Montalvo Soto, Yuler Yerry 16 January 2021 (has links)
The objective of this thesis is a project management proposal based on the PMBOK guide to improve the execution of the access road of a mining project in Ancash in 2021 through the planning and control of the scope, schedule, and cost. The type of research was quantitative, with an explanatory non-experimental research design, which sought to analyze both dependent and independent variables and determine if one affects the other. The study sample is constituted by the project management of three areas (Scope Management, Schedule Management, Cost Management) in the works in execution of the Antamina mining unit during the year 2021. The research improved the PMBOK guide, which provided the guidelines and guidelines to identify the characteristics and formats necessary for the project. Likewise, the composition structure of the research was carried out taking into account the activities involved, their sequence, constructive ease, the cost, availability, and use of inputs (materials, equipment, tools), as well as the availability of hand of operational work and yields. During the methodology used, the collection of during the first 36 initial weeks of the project was shown, the information was obtained current on the scope of the project, the performance of the schedule, the performance of the cost and the progress of the execution of the works. That is why the performance control report of machine hours, man hours and cost control was obtained. Subsequently, the information obtained was processed using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project and AutoCAD software and interpreted to obtain the measurement of management efficiency and thus achieve the necessary results to propose the application of the PMBOK guidelines in the project. Finally, after analyzing, interpreting, defining the base information and processed information based on the proposal, the results, conclusions, and recommendations were presented according to the information obtained in the investigation. / Tesis
