The Service and Application of ICT in Medical Industry

Mong, Fan-yun 07 August 2008 (has links)
This study explores the medical services based on the ICT technologies such as the wireless network and positioning. The related history of internet and recently developed technologies of localization will be introduced. The literature review and case study approaches will be applied to explore the medical services using high technologies. Combining new technologies and medical industry requires an integrated platform. How to design such a platform and what functionalities required in that are investigated in this thesis. Our data is mainly from Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), including the platform for homecare and eldercare. Moreover, we also study the product samples available on numerous web sites. The services provided in Taiwan are inspected as well. Due to the increasing aging population worldwide, the medical services incorporating high-tech such as homecare and eldercare have attracted interests from both academics and industry. Once a well developed platform can be integrated, there are many advantages can be expected such as saving the medical resource, enhancing the service quality, and so on. Therefore, the government puts emphasis on such medical integrated scheme such as the U-care project in order to meet the future requirements. We will report the platform constructed by ITRI and analyze the problems encountered in the advanced country such as Japan and America. Finally, how the technologies are developed from the engineer perspective will be clarified. The networking and positioning services from Intel and Microsoft are studied in this work and the evolvements are also illustrated

An Improved Scheme for Sensor Alignment Calibration of Ultra Short Baseline Positioning Systems

Chang, Hsu-Kuang 09 August 2009 (has links)
This study proposed a numerical algorithm for estimating the angular misalignments between sensors of an ultra short baseline (USBL) positioning system. The algorithm is based on positioning a seabed transponder by moving a vessel along a predetermined straight-line path. Under the scheme of straight-line survey, mathematical representations of positioning error arising from heading, pitch, and roll misalignments were derived, respectively. The effect of each misalignment angle and how the differences can be used to calibrate each misalignment angle in turn are presented. A USBL calibration procedure that takes advantage of the geometry of position errors resulting from angular misalignments is then developed. During the USBL measurement, temporal and spatial variations of sound speed structure in water column are the major error sources. Therefore, this study used the sound speed profile together with a ray tracing method to correct observations of the USBL measurement. In addition, this study developed a method to compensate the effects of cross-track error on the estimation of alignment errors, and this makes the proposed algorithm applicable for using a vessel without dynamic positioning (DP) systems to collect USBL observations. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated through simulation and field experiment. The simulation and experimental results have demonstrated the effectiveness and robustness of the iterative scheme in finding alignment errors. The proposed algorithm yields a very rapid convergence of the solution series; usually the estimates obtained in the first iteration approximate to true values, and only a few iterations are necessary to achieve fairly accurate solutions.

Paskirstytos sistemos projektavimas ir testavimo metodikos tyrimas / Distributed system design and testing methodology analysis

Rudelis, Rytis 10 July 2008 (has links)
GPS technologijai tapus prieinama ne tik karinei pramonei buvo pradėtos kurti įvairios paskirties pozicionavimo sistemos, skirtos eiliniams IT vartotojams. To pasėkoje atsirado naujo pobūdžio paslaugų rūšis – paslaugos pagrįstos vartotojo pozicijos nustatymu. / Many different positioning systems for ordinary IT users were developed since GPS technology became available not only to US military. Those systems led to new kind of services – location-based services. Some of the widely used positioning systems are analyzed in this work and their main functionality is marked out, positioning technologies compared. Architecture of multi-user positioning system and its main implementations aspects are given. Also there is an analysis of distributed system development and testing issues that may lead to project failure or its cost rising and a software development and testing model suggested. This is a practical model which lets reduce the risk of failure.

An Efficient Wi-Fi RSS Indoor Positioning System and Its Client-server Implementation

Yu, Yibo 12 December 2013 (has links)
The demand of Indoor Location Based Services LBS has increased over the past years as smart phone market expands. As a result, there's a growing interest in developing efficient and reliable indoor positioning systems for mobile devices. Wi-Fi signal strength fingerprint-based approaches attract more and more attention due to the wide deployment of Wi-Fi access points. Indoor positioning problem using Wi-Fi signal fingerprints can be viewed as a machine learning task to be solved mathematically. This thesis proposes an efficient and reliable Wi-Fi real-time indoor positioning system using machine learning algorithms. The proposed positioning system, together with a location server equipped with the same algorithms, are tested and evaluated in several indoor scenarios. Simulation and testing results show that the proposed system is a feasible LBS solution.

HIGH PERFORMANCE DIGITAL CONTROL TECHNIQUES FOR POWERING MICROPROCESSORS

Pan, Shangzhi 14 April 2009 (has links)
Increasing power consumption and heat dissipation are becoming urgent challenges for processors today and in the future. Digital power control architectures in which processors closely interact with voltage regulators are becoming necessary to enhance system energy efficiency. Digital techniques offer advantages such as flexibility, fewer external components and reduced overall cost as compared to conventional analog techniques. The primary objective of this thesis is to develop new digital control architecture for processor voltage regulators with low complexity and high dynamic performance. A digital control technique to naturally implement the desired output impedance is proposed. In this technique, Adaptive Voltage Positioning (AVP) is implemented by generating a dynamic voltage reference and a dynamic current reference to achieve the desired output impedance. A dual-voltage-loop control with dynamic reference step adjustment, non-linear control and a dedicated transient detection circuit is proposed to improve the dynamic performance. The dynamic reference step adjustment method lowers the high speed requirement of reference update clock; the non-linear control minimizes the transient-assertion-to-action delay and maximizes the inductor current slew rate; and the transient detection circuit recognizes the load transient state in a manner adaptive to the amount and slew rate of load transient. Theoretical, simulation and experimental results prove the effective operation and excellent performance of the controller. Finally, the dynamic performance of the voltage regulator with the proposed digital controller under large-step load oscillations is proven by simulation and experimental results. / Thesis (Ph.D, Electrical & Computer Engineering) -- Queen's University, 2008-07-31 13:14:52.149

GNSS liability issues : possible solutions to a global system

Rodriguez-Contreras Pérez, Pablo January 2002 (has links)
Navigation by satellite---GNSS---is a local technology with global repercussions. Although operation and control rest in government hands, the consequences of satellite use, most often beneficial, have a worldwide effect. Controversy arises when this free-of-direct-charge technology, on which the International Community relies, fails, thus causing damage to third parties. / It was the intention of the drafters and negotiators of the international space law regime to establish a victim-oriented liability framework, in order to guarantee adequate compensation for damage caused by space activities. Unfortunately, it seems that the present regime has only partially met these goals. / The surest means of obtaining compensation is through domestic legal regimes, but these regimes are naturally subject to the ebb and flow of government policy and judicial discretion. / The present thesis will analyse the established liability regimes for which a damaged GNSS final user may seek compensation, and will finally consider whether the drafting of a GNSS Convention is opportune.
