La pensée dévotionnelle et mystique dans la peinture des anciens Pays-Bas : XVè siècle - première moitié du XVIè siècle / Devotional and mystical thought in Early Netherlandish Painting : 15th century-first half of the half of the 16th centuryRabier, Delphine 11 December 2015 (has links)
This study intends to investigate and clarify the links between the Early Netherlandish pictorial tradition (15th and 16th centuries) and mystical literature as exemplified by Ruysbroeck the Admirable and the authors associated with the Modern Devotion (devotio moderna). Focusing on a corpus of works by Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden, Petrus Christus, Hans Memling, Hugo van der Goes, the Master of the View of St Gudule, the Master of 1499, the Master of Alkmaar, Hieronymus Bosch, Gerard David and Jan Mostaert, this analysis brings to light that painting and writing enrich each other’s meaning. In the first part, we shall observe the ways in which the painters captured the dynamic progression of the various types of vision (active, internal and contemplative) as well as the ways in which they addressed the phenomenon of disimagination. The second part of this study will highlight the fact that the image supports the spiritual and meditative practices of the faithful through various processes and techniques (mnemonic, participative etc.). The third part of the analysis will focus on the visual treatment of a key idea defined by Ruysbroeck the Admirable, and adapted by the authors of the Modern Devotion: dat ghemeine leven (the common life).

Strukturální metody identifikace objektů pro řízení průmyslového robotu / Structural Methods of Objects Identification for Industrial Robot OperationMinařík, Martin January 2009 (has links)
This PhD thesis deals with the use of structural methods of objects identification for industrial robots operation. First, the present state of knowledge in the field is described, i.e. the whole process of objects recognition with the aid of common methods of the syntactic analysis. The main disadvantage of these methods is that is impossible to recognize objects whose digitalized image is corrupted in some ways (due to excessive noise or image disturbances), objects are therefore deformed. Further, other methods for the recognition of deformed objects are described. These methods use structural description of objects for object recognition, i.e. methods which determine the distance between attribute descriptions of images. The core part of this PhD thesis begins in Chapter 5, where deformation grammars, capable of description of all possible object deformations, are described. The only complication in the analysis is the ambiguity of the deformation grammar, which lowers the effectiveness of the analysis. Further, PhD thesis deals with the selection and modification of a proper parser, which is able to analyze a deformation grammar effectively. Three parsers are described: the modified Earley parser, the modified Tomita parser and the modified hybrid LRE(k) parser. As for the modified Earley’s parser, ways of its effective implementation are described. One of the necessary parts of the object recognition is providing the invariances, which this PhD thesis covers in detail, too. Finally, the results of described algorithms are mentioned (successfulness and speed of deformed objects recognition) and suggested testing environment and implemented algorithms are described. In conclusion, all determined possibilities of deformation grammars and their results are summarized.

Performance Evaluation of Kotlin and Java on Android Runtime / Prestandautvärdering av Kotlin och Java för Android RuntimeSchwermer, Patrik January 2018 (has links)
This study evaluates the performance of Kotlin and Java on Android Runtime using four benchmarks from the Computer Language Benchmarks Game suite, for which a total of 12 benchmark implementations are studied. The metrics used to evaluate the performance includes runtime, memory consumption, garbage collection, boxing of primitives as well as bytecode n-grams. To benchmark the languages, a benchmark application has been developed intended to run on an Android phone. The results indicate that Kotlin is slower than Java for all studied benchmarks by a varying factor. Furthermore, the use of idiomatic Kotlin features and constructs results in additional heap pressure and the need of boxed primitives. Other interesting results indicate the existence of an underlying garbage collection overhead when reclaiming Kotlin objects compared to Java. Furthermore, Kotlin produces larger and more varied bytecode than Java for a majority of the benchmarks.

Methods for face detection and adaptive face recognitionPavani, Sri-Kaushik 21 July 2010 (has links)
The focus of this thesis is on facial biometrics; specifically in the problems of face detection and face recognition. Despite intensive research over the last 20 years, the technology is not foolproof, which is why we do not see use of face recognition systems in critical sectors such as banking. In this thesis, we focus on three sub-problems in these two areas of research. Firstly, we propose methods to improve the speed-accuracy trade-off of the state-of-the-art face detector. Secondly, we consider a problem that is often ignored in the literature: to decrease the training time of the detectors. We propose two techniques to this end. Thirdly, we present a detailed large-scale study on self-updating face recognition systems in an attempt to answer if continuously changing facial appearance can be learnt automatically.
