Den dubbla avvikaren : En kvalitativ studie om frivårdsinspektörers konstruktioner av kvinnor som begår brottEdström, Erica, Grandin Ahrling, Mimmi January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study has been to examine how female probation officers construct the concept of women who commit crime. This have been done by examining how the probation officers describe the phenomenon from their own point of view, how they perceive society's view of the phenomenon, how they describe the women's self-images and how their own perceptions affect the treatment of these women. To fulfill this aim the study is based on qualitative interviews with five female probation officers. We analyzed their statements by using Gender theory, Goffmans stigma term and Beckers deviant term. The result of this study shows that women who commit crime are described more as victims than offenders and that they are constructed as deviant in two ways; both in relation to the law but also in relation to their gender. The female probation officers construct the women as carriers of feelings of guilt and shame and that they have issues with their own identities. It also shows that the female probation officers believe in treating male and female clients the same way, although the result of this study shows that they probably don’t.

Frivårdsinspektörens tvådelade roll : En kvalitativ studie om att bemöta klienter utifrån ett professionellt alternativt privat förhållningssätt / The two-part role of probation officersBoström, Emma, Danielsson, Amilia January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to explore probation officers approach professionally and privately to clients who are convicted or suspected of crime. We wanted to highlight the emotional strain that the professional role can create. We used a qualitative research approach in which the data collection method consisted of semi-structured interviews with six probation officers. The result showed that within the occupation there was a two-part view of whether there was difficulties to remain neutral toward clients who have committed more severe types of crime. The result showed that there were probation officers whose private values were too strong. There was some challenges in keeping distance between the professional and the private role when a closeness to the client was created. However, the closeness was considered a fundamental part to create a supportive relationship in order to achieve successful rehabilitation, which in some ways showed to be complicated.

Circumstances that influence the finalisation of child sexual abuse cases in Tembisa / Ntlatleng, M.J.Ntlatleng, Morentho Johannah January 2011 (has links)
Child sexual abuse is a major problem in Africa. There are a large number of child sexual abuse cases which are opened on a monthly basis. Child sexual abuse is a very sensitive issue and therefore trained professionals are needed in order to deal with the issue. Proper investigations need to be conducted.
Due to the sensitive nature of child sexual abuse cases, finalising such cases successfully becomes a major problem. Numerous departments play a role in the investigation of these cases such as the National Prosecuting Authority, the South African Police Service, the Department of Social Development, the Department of Health, non–governmental organisations (NGOs), etcetera.
The community does not have an understanding of how these cases are dealt with and, as a result, they blame the police for not doing their work properly and being useless. The role players also blame one another for the unsuccessful prosecution of perpetrators in cases of child sexual abuse. For example, prosecutors may blame the police for poor investigations and the police may, in turn, blame prosecutors for releasing suspects from custody unreasonably and removing cases off the roll for no apparent reasons. Social workers may also be blamed for not doing their work properly and taking too long to submit the assessment reports. Doctors may also be blamed for failing to attend court hearings and for filing incomplete reports.
Although the role players have their inadequacies in investigating these cases, the truth is that each of them has their own unique protocol for handling cases of child sexual abuse. Therefore, a need emerged to explore the circumstances that affect the finalisation of child sexual abuse.
In response to this, a qualitative study based in Tembisa was conducted. The aim of the study was to identify the circumstances that contribute to the finalisation of child sexual abuse cases in Tembisa. From the survey it was clear that there are several contributing factors, such as the delay of DNA results, inadequate training of the role players, and service points that are understaffed. The researcher came to the conclusion that the successful prosecution of child sexual abuse cases lies with all the role players in the investigation of child sexual abuse. / Thesis (M.A. (MW))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2012.
