Orientador: Marcia Regina Nozawa / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Ciencias Medicas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-04T02:40:30Z (GMT). Palavras Chave: avaliação de programas - programas de imunização - idosos - gerência / Abstract: This research had as objective to comprehend the development of the years, from the analysis adopted by the central, districtal and local instances in the coverages' conformation results reached. The case-study method was used, having as primary source the interview notes performedwith seven workers placed on the three organizational levels of the Municipal Health Secretary, that were directly involved in the campaign coordination, and as second source the several records and documents about the subject. Both the districtal and local agentes in charge of coordination were nurses. The planing, the development and the evaluation of the 2004 year campaign was characterizedwith the finality of related them to the results obtained. For this task we calculated vaccinal coverages between 1999 and 2003 years for municipal district, Health Districts (DSs) and Basic Health Units (UBSs) trom aplied dosis number and target-population size data supplied by the Health Vigilance Bureau (CoVISA). The vaccinal coverage in the whole municipal district, in the DSs and in the UBSs, for the already mentioned years, showed a significant variability. Two DSs were elected for this study due to their more stable behavior respect to the coverages and after we chose one UBS due to his particular behavior and also because of districtal worker's indication. It was identified that the work process developed at the severaI instances weren't compatible with the campaigns' objectives and finalities. In addition, it was verified in ali levels that the planning activities were restricted to the routines acomplishment related to the simple data casting. It was also possible to observe that the vaccination-was assumed exclusively in his manual and technical dimension, that the information of health was limited to the divulgation's material elaboration, and that the elderly singularities wasn't considered in the developed practices. It was noted still that the vaccinal coverage analysis nor was used as a evaluation toei neither was adopted as a work tool in the management actions. Gerekenariseerde loopbaanvoorligting : 'n evaluering van die DISCOVER-stelsel

Langley, Petronella Rouxleen 16 April 2014 (has links)
D.Litt. et Phil. (Psychology) / Career planning is a developmental process that can be facilitated by career development programmes. One of the recent developments in these programmes was the introduction of computerized career counselling which enables the user to explore career activities independently. An experimental investigation in which the DISCOVER computerized system was used, was conducted at two universities in an attempt to determine whether DISCOVER could be a useful aid for career counselling in South Africa. First-year university students (N=106) were randomly assigned to one of four groups according to the Solomon Four Group Experimental Design. Subjects completed a biographical questionnaire, the Career Maturity Scale (CMS), Senior Aptitude Test (SAT), New South African Group Test (NSAGT), Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF), PHSF Relations Questionnaire (PHSF), Survey of Study Habits and Attitudes (SSHA), Self-Directed Search (SDS) and the 19 Field Interest Inventory (19FII). Evaluation questionnaires concerning the use of DISCOVER were ·also completed by students as well as counsellors. The main hypothesis, namely that there would be a statistically significant difference between the mean posttest scores on the CMS of the experimental and the control groups, was tested according to the integrated statistical procedure suggested by Spector (1981). The results showed that there is. a statistically significant increase in the career maturity of students after they had used the DISCOVER system, compared with students from the control group (F, 12,15; p <0,0007). After posttest adjustment for pretest differences, the effect of the DISCOVER programme was still statistically significant. It could be predicted with 95 , certainty that a person who used the DISCOVER programme would show an increase of between 0,68 and 2,21 points in his total score on the Career Maturity Scale (CMS). There was no statistically significant interaction effect between the DISCOVER intervention and the pretest. Variables such as aptitude, personality and study habits, correlated statistically significant (p <0,05) with the increase in career maturity after the use of the DISCOVER system.

Prescriptive computer-assisted learning environments from a teaching perspective

Van der Vyver, John 18 February 2014 (has links)
D.Ed. (Media Science) / The education system in South Africa is at the moment in a state of flux and various strategies are being investigated to address and redress inequities in the system. Many persons would see the computer as playing a significant role in this process. The problem, however, is not whether but how to use the computer effectively and appropriately in the classroom. Should the computer merely be used as a recordkeeping facility, a tool to assist the teacher or as an instrument for assisting learners to develop their full potential as human beings (Schostak, 1988:147; HSRC, 1983a:38; HSRC, 1983b:163). Computer-assisted learning environments have variously been described as the best of learning environments and the worst of learning environments. No doubt, opinions as to the value of such environments can be found at every point along the continuum that joins these two contradictory viewpoints (Doulton, 1984; Hart, 1984; Roach, 1984; Merrill, Tolman, Christensen, Hammons, Vincent & Reynolds, 1986:279). It is the purpose of this study to systematically examine the literature regarding one of these computer-assisted learning environments and to describe its underlying theoretical assumptions in order to assess its significance for education and to provide guidelines for the development and evaluation of software that can be used in the learning environment...

Towards Comparative Profiling of Parallel Applications with PPerfDB

Hansen, Christian Leland 01 January 2001 (has links)
Due to the complex nature of parallel programming, it is difficult to diagnose and solve performance related problems. Knowledge of program behavior is obtained experimentally, with repeated runs of a slightly modified version of the application or the same code in different environments. In these circumstances, comparative performance analysis can provide meaningful insights into the subtle effects of system and code changes on parallel program behavior by highlighting the difference in performance results across executions. I have designed and implemented modules which extend the PPerfDB performance tool to allow access to existing performance data generated by several commonly used tracing tools. Access occurs from within the experiment management framework provided by PPerfDB for the identification of system parameters, the representation of multiple sets of execution data, and the formulation of data queries. Furthermore, I have designed and implemented an additional module that will generate new data using dynamic instrumentation under the control of PPerfDB. This was done to enable the creation of novel experiments for performance hypothesis testing and to ultimately automate the diagnostic and tuning process. As data from such diverse sources has very different representations, various techniques to allow comparisons are presented. I have generalized the definition of the Performance Difference operator, which automatically detects divergence in multiple data sets, and I have defined an Overlay operation to provide uniform access to both dynamically generated and tracefile based data. The use and application of these new operations along with an indication of some of the issues involved in the creation of a fully automatic comparative profilier is presented via several case studies performed on an IBM SP2 using different versions of an MPI application.

An assessment of visitor attitudes toward resource use and management in a national park

Kiely, Kathleen Anne January 1979 (has links)
Attitude surveys can serve as a basis of public interest and opinion inputs to National Park Service planning and management decision making. The initial objective of this study was to develop a method for scaling attitudes which alleviated problems of interpreting effects of two related components of attitude--beliefs and corresponding evaluations of those beliefs. In conjunction with this objective, visitor knowledge about and attitudes toward resource use and management in Shenandoah National Park were assessed. Finally, guidelines were formulated suggesting how to design an effective interpretive message taking into account relevant user characteristics, level of knowledge, and attitudes toward resource use and management in the national park. Considering summer months and weekend/weekday visitation patterns, a stratified random sample of days was selected to contact park visitors. On designated sampling days visitors were contacted at lodges, backcountry stations or campgrounds. Names and addresses were secured via an information release form. In September, 1978, individuals were mailed an attitude survey. A follow-up post card and two selective follow-up questionnaire mailings ensued. Overall response rate was 81 percent. The survey instrument obtained contributions of belief and affective components of attitude. In order to measure these components in a manner reflecting resource management objectives and allowing easy interpretation of attitude scores, a new modified matrix scaling technique was developed. A matrix of attitude scores was computed using an unipolar belief scale and bipolar affect scale. The computed using an unipolar belief scale and bipolar affect scale. The belief scale was also employed to determine visitor level of knowledge concerning resource use and management in Shenandoah National Park. The over-all matrix system was developed within the framework of Fishbein's (1963) expectancy value attitude theory. The scaling method lessened some of the problems created by using standard bipolar st.nnmative scaling. In addition, final scores derived from this matrix procedure were logically consistent, theoretically appropriate, and may be managerially relevant. Results of analyses of variance in overall belief and attitude scores suggested the utility of developing different interpretive messages about resource use and management for the three camping styleslodge, campground, and backcountry users. Attitude changes predicted via the expectancy value formulation indicated the importance of considering the distribution of visitor attitude scores before attempting development of an interpretive message designed to influence attitudes. / Ph. An evaluation management model for environmental education programs

Armstrong, James B. January 1989 (has links)
The study was designed to develop a management model for the evaluation of environmental education supplements developed by nonprofit special-interest groups. Naturescope, an interdisciplinary environmental education supplement developed by the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), was used as a vehicle for developing this model. The first component of the study involved the development of the model, while the second component measured evaluation outcomes relative to NatureScope. Working in conjunction with NWF program staff, four issues of NatureScope were randomly selected from the fifteen issues available at the time of the study. Volunteer fifth and seventh grade teachers from Virginia and Georgia were used in the study. A separate knowledge test was developed for each of the four issues. In addition, a 16-item likert scale was developed to measure environmental attitudes. Qualitative information related to the usefulness of NatureScope was collected through a teacher questionnaire. Evaluator interactions with the client, school administrators, and teachers influenced the development and success of the evaluation. The politically-motivated hidden agendas of the client resulted in unexpected modifications to the evaluation process. School administrators displayed a reluctance to permit teachers to participate in the study. Teachers who volunteered expressed concern over a lack of familiarity with the topics and the evaluation process. The evaluation outcomes of the study measured the effects of NatureScope on environmental knowledge and attitudes. Students exposed to Let's Hear It for Herps demonstrated the greatest differences in subject knowledge when compared to the control group. None of the issues had a significant effect on environmental attitudes when compared to the control group. Fifth grade students systematically scored higher than seventh grade students on all measures. Teachers responded favorably to NatureScope, however, the materials were criticized as too simple for seventh grade. The NatureScope evaluation portion of the study indicates that the materials may be best suited for fifth grade students of average ability. / Ph. D.
