Social Problems of First Century A.D. Christians Studied in the Context of CorinthChristie, James Lloyd 08 1900 (has links)
Corinth is chosen as the setting for this thesis since the Pauline Corinthian letters yield much first hand information concerning the problems the new Christians were facing. A general description of the history, social atmosphere, and architecture of Corinth is given in order to establish a background in which the study can be made. Two specific problems are addressed. First, that of "Porneia" ("Sexual immorality.") A definite prohibition against all extra-marital sexual intercourse causes the Christians to identify marriage as a necessity for those desirous or in need of sexual fulfilment. This is in contrast with the Greco-Roman attitude towards marriage, namely that it provided only one of several possibilities for sexual fulfilment, and was primarily for the purpose of child-bearing. The second problem addressed is that of eating "eidolothuta" ("meats offered to idols.") Paul distinguishes between circumstances when specific practices of pagan worship are present, and when they are not present. In the former.situation, the Christians were not to eat; in the latter, they were permitted to eat.
For the Christians to comply with St. Paul's instructions concerning each of the two named problems, it meant limiting their social activities in various ways. The result may have been restricted social, political, and financial prosperity, as-well as eventual hatred and abuse by their contemporaries. / Thesis / Master of Arts (MA)

Nový řád ve východní Asii a Východoasijská sféra společné prosperity / New Order at East Asia and Eastasian sfere of mutual prosperityReinisch, Martin January 2011 (has links)
The goal of this thesis is to clarify the issues related to the New Order in East Asia and the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. Emphasis will be added to motives which lead Japan to the creation of a new arrangement in East Asia. These motives are represented by both Japan's strategic interests, among which was the struggle for obtaining access to natural resources (such as iron ore, coal and oil), as well as the control over a certain part of Asian territory with the intention of creating a buffer zone, mainly because of fearing the Soviet Union. The effort to control the Far East was further strengthened by the Great Depression, which resulted with the creation of enclosed trade blocks. A significant source of Japanese expansionist policy was presented by the ideology of Pan-Asianism, which played a large role in Japan's foreign policy making since the second half of the1920s. Pan-Asianism had been originally focused mainly on Northeast Asia and only later was it utilized to legitimize the Japanese occupation of Southeast Asia. The thesis also pays much attention to the creation of Japanese puppet regimes, both on occupied Chinese territory and in Southeast Asia. An important role here is played by the Japanese effort to cooperate with local elites, both political and religious. Not only...

The inhabitants of Western Europe and English speaking countries have the strongest environmental concern, in contrast, in post communist countries of Eastern Europe is this concern the smallest. Post materialists and inhabitants of the richer countries have stronger environmental concern and they believe more in science and progress solving ecological problems. The perception of consequences of ecological problems on everyday life is also a strong determinant from which suffers mostly localities out of Europe. The recycling waste is most often carried away in Western Europe and English speaking countries. A strong correlation is between finished education and environmental concern as well as ecological activism, there is a weaker connection to saving natural resources.

Origins and growth of Pentecostal and Neo-Pentecostal church movements in Zambia between 1989-2000Lumbe, John Muntunda Kapenda 06 1900 (has links)
The Evangelical movement is a significant Christian movement in the life of the Zambian Nation and it is to this movement that the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement belongs. Undoubtedly this movement has become to be a vital player in enhancing the voice of hope and change that Evangelicals have trumpeted in the past twenty years. Emerging in the shadows of formidable established Christian movements such as the Evangelical fellowship of Zambia and Christian Council of Zambia, the movement is yet to consolidate itself as one of the influencing groups within the Evangelical movement. For this to happen, they has to be realization of the potential there is to become an agent of change in the Nation.
In order to attain this, the movement needs introspection in their perception and involvement in socio-economic development and theological response to matters which affect communities they serve.
This work endeavors to high light historical factors which have contributed to the development and growth of the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement in Zambia. Roles and contributions of the movement towards the Evangelical movement as well us short comings. / Christian Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / M. Th. (Missiology)

Pursuing Sustainability and Prosperity in Swedish Municipalities: Using Indicators to Inform Strategic GovernanceColey, Alex, Jerkovich, Jordan, Pilgaard Madsen, Mikkel January 2019 (has links)
Deciding between sustainability or prosperity may be a false choice when the phenomena are appropriately defined and considered together (Stiglitz et al. 2009). With reference to existing indicator systems and frameworks, including the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development (FSSD) and the Community Capitals Framework (CCF), this research developed three novel indices (SMSI, SMSI+, and CCFI) using a Strategic Sustainable Development (SSD) approach to measure and analyze the correlation between sustainability (SMSI, SMSI+) and prosperity (CCFI) in Swedish municipalities. The spearman rank-order coefficient values were 0.259 and 0.588 for SMSI and CFFI and SMSI+ and CCFI, respectively. Both were significantly correlated with a p-value of 0.05, where SMSI+ and CCFI were 0.329 more correlated than SMSI and CCFI. This showed that an index that more comprehensively considers an SSD approach correlates more with CCFI. Furthermore, only six out of 234 Swedish municipalities ranked in the top 10 percent of both SMSI+ and CCFI, showing that it is difficult to successfully pursue sustainability and prosperity together in practice. Importantly, this research also demonstrates that it is possible to create indices using an SSD approach while outlining the methods for how to do so.
