The High Level Architecture (HLA) provides a universal solution for interconnecting various simulation environments and applications thus creating a more complex simulation entity. The idea is built upon controlled and directed data exchanges of objects and events (via the RunTime Interface - RTI) shared by participants (i.e. simulations) thus creating a distributed data environment. The aim of this thesis is to investigate usability of HLA for agent based development platforms (e.g. Pogamut) as well as providing transparent and simple to use access to HLA for HLA unaware applications. The thesis describes architecture and provides a prototype proof-of-concept implementation, which integrates HLA with two different (closed source) game engines providing them the ability to communicate to a simple client application according to a reasonable subset of the HLA standard. The thesis also provides performance measurements of prototype implementation.

From Curb to Launch : Explore the pre-launch, ground experience for space tourism in 2040

We are at the dawn of the next chapter of manned space flight, and space travel will soon be within reach for the majority of the humanity, not just the elite. The imminent launch of Virgin Galactic's first commercial service this year, soon to be followed by companies such as SpaceX and Blue Origin, means that space tourism will quickly go from one individual every few years to dozens, perhaps hundreds of new space tourists annually. Everyday civilians going to space for the purpose of tourism will have fundamentally different needs than professional astronauts going up to space for days or month at a times for work and research. To make space travel within reach of the masses, space tourist will need a different and simplified process compared to traditional astronauts. This thesis created a user-centered service that allows companies to handle the increasing number of private individuals going to space. The service not only prepares the customer for the space flight, but also provides an experience that will last a lifetime, that will be shared with others, and in the process perhaps inspire a new generation of human progress and collaboration. The result is a snapshot of the overall service, illustrate the user experience in an immersive, virtual environment. As part of the exploration, an immersive and very effective new method of user experience testing is developed as contribution to the field of Interaction Design.

Para isso, foram implementados alguns algoritmos para auxiliar na apresentação e avaliação de quatro técnicas de otimização: uso de recursos alternativos, multiplexação no tempo, algoritmos alternativos e mudança da freqüência sistêmica. As principais contribuições do presente trabalho foram: compilar em um único documento diversas técnicas para geração eficiente de códigos de processamento digital de sinais; o estudo das etapas de fluxo de projeto baseado em ferramentas de prototipagem rápida; implementações de diversos algoritmos para demonstrar as técnicas de otimização, visando-se o estudo da minimização da área de ocupação em FPGA. Com o uso das técnicas pode-se alcançar uma redução de área da FPGA de até 90%, conforme a complexidade do sistema alvo. / Abstract: This work describes the study, research and compilation of programming optimization techniques for FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) using a tool technology for rapid prototyping. For this purpose, some algorithms have been implemented to help the presentation and evaluation of four optimization techniques: alternative resources usage, time multiplexing, alternative algorithms and systemic frequency change. The main contributions of this work are: compilation in one document several efficient techniques for generation code in digital signal processing; study of the phases of design flow were based on rapid prototyping tools; implementations of several algorithms to demonstrate the optimization techniques, looking for the minimization of the FPGA occupation area.
