Faktory ovlivňující volbu dopravního prostředku v kontextu FFPT: případová studie Frýdek-Místek / Factors affecting travel behavior in the context of FFPT: case study Frýdek-Místek

Štraub, Daniel January 2019 (has links)
This diploma thesis studies the issue of travel behaviour in the systems with abolished fares of public transport, so called free fare public transport policy (FFPT), which aredominantly influencing the transport system in favour of one means of transport. The main aim of this paper is to figure out how the concept of FFPT is affecting the choice of means of transport and what is the influence of the FFPT on the dynamic in the given transport system. Besides conceptual framing of main theoretical knowledge regarding the issue of travel behaviour and development of transportation systems, the paper is using analysis of practical implementation of the FFPT concept and also, on the case of Frýdek- Místek, the case study of specifics system with implemented FFPT. The results indicate that introduction of the FFPT is effective way how to influence travel behaviour in the favour of public transport and to change conditions in the given transport system, which is then more variable. It's important to mention, FFPT concept does not represents universal tool how to influence development of transport systems while it is just one measure out of many others. Besides of focusing on specifics measurements it is important to systematically using different tools and its complementarity while development of...

Innovative Value Creation in Public Transport : Learning to Structure for Capability

Davoudi, Sara January 2016 (has links)
Purpose – The purpose of this thesis is to explore the capability of Swedish regional public transport authorities (RPTAs) to organize public transport so that it stimulates the intended value creation process needed to increase users’ positive experience. Design/methodology/approach – This thesis utilizes an interpretative research approach. Two empirical studies, resulting in two papers have been used in this thesis. Study I consists of a quantitative Kano questionnaire with 930 respondents. Study II comprises a qualitative study with 11 semi-structured interviews. Both studies have been equally necessary to the results of this thesis. Findings – Public transport is one of the few public services with a mandate to attract users, and therefore, this thesis suggests that Swedish public transport organizations must understand how various services in multiple dimensions affect users’ preferences for public transport. With this understanding, public transport organizations can effectively and efficiently allocate resources and increase the appeal of future public transport. Such a focus demands a deep organizational knowledge and understanding of customer needs and detailed awareness of how the achievement of various requirements affects customers. This thesis shows that organizational structures are based on political comprises rather then the needs to solve coordination challenges and facilitate customers’ value creation. It is further argued that the organizational structures and personal or impersonal information processing mechanisms in Swedish public transport influence the search for information and subsequent organizational learning influencing the RPTAs’ capabilities to include and understand public transport users’ needs. This thesis offers insight into how public organizations, such as Swedish public transport authorities, can make decisions in structural design to learn from customer perceptions and adapt organizational policy accordingly.  In addition, I argue that RPTAs must employ both exploitative and exploratory learning to improve their capabilities and increase their efficiency and effectiveness. This thesis also provides a model to describe these relationships. Originality/value – Unlike previous studies, this thesis shows how organizational structures are decided based on political compromises rather than the need for coordination. This thesis offers insight into how public organizations, such as Swedish public transport authorities, can make decisions in structural design to learn from customer perceptions and adapt organizational policy accordingly. / Public transport is one of the few public services with a mandate to attract users, and therefore, this thesis suggests that Swedish public transport organizations must understand how various services in multiple dimensions affect users’ preferences for public transport. Public participation in the bus rapid transit system in Johannesburg

Dibakwane, Sipho Moses 02 November 2012 (has links)
The formulation and implementation of the Bus Rapid Transit Network system (BRT) or Rea Vaya in the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) was met with different views from the Johannesburg general public. Some sections of the public accepted the BRT, while others rejected it. The reason for the initial rejection was the lack of public consultation, while those with a positive view conceded that the BRT was a good concept in transforming the public transport system of Johannesburg. This study investigated how the public participated in the BRT. The study was conducted through the qualitative research methodological approach. Primary in-depth interviews and documentary analysis were undertaken to answer the research question. The findings of the study indicate that public participation in the BRT was orchestrated haphazardly because of the lack of a proper governance system on public participation. The CoJ’s only concern appeared to be meeting the deadline to provide efficient transport services during the Confederations and World Cup Soccer tournaments of 2009 and 2010 respectively. The study concludes that the processes of engaging the public to participate in BRT formulation and implementation were flawed. The study finally recommends that the CoJ should develop governance systems on public participation. The systems should include a tailor-made public participation policy and institutional mechanisms to support critical engagement with the public.

Uso do hidrogênio no transporte público da cidade de São Paulo / Use of hydrogen in the public transport of sao paulo city

Paladino, Patrícia Andréa 06 June 2013 (has links)
Hydrogen is a promising energy carrier, which potentially could replace the fossil fuels used in the transportation sector of the economy by means of fuel cells. Several methods have been proposed to produce hydrogen. These methods include steam methane reforming, electrolysis and thermo chemical cycles. A large amount of energy is required to produce hydrogen. For many hydrogen production processes, input energy is needed in the form of either heat or electricity. The purpose of this work is to analyze the feasibility of production of electrolytic hydrogen using a available energy, of the national interconnected system of the São Paulo City.. To achieve this goal it was studied the Brazilian electric system, the technology of production, storage and transportation of hydrogen, analyzing the costs and environmental assessment of each item. It was estimated the negative externalities of environmental pollution by the fleet of diesel buses and through analysis proved the feasibility of replacing diesel buses with hydrogen buses. and the consequent improvement in the environmental quality of the population of São Paulo City.

Heurísticas baseadas em busca em vizinhança variável para o problema de programação integrada de veículos e tripulações no transporte coletivo urbano por ônibus. / Heuristics based on variable neighborhood search for the simultaneously vehicle crew scheduling problem in urban transport by bus.

Reis, Jorge von Atzingen dos 08 July 2008 (has links)
In most Brazilian cities, bus has become the main, and oftentimes the only mean of public transportation, not only servicing those who cannot afford to have a car, but also helping to reduce traffic congestion and thus improving quality of life. In order to encourage the bus usage in many cities, several measures must be taken, including an effort to reduce overall costs and, as a result, fares paid by the users, thus benefit mainly low income users which represent a major part of its users. In this context, an efficient scheduling of vehicles and crews is essential to achieve cost reduction, since it accounts for a major part of overall costs. In this paper, we deal with the Bus Vehicle Crew Scheduling Problem, in which bus and crew schedules are simultaneously determined in an integrated approach. We propose an approach based on Variable Neighborhood search to solve this complex problem, which was implemented in C++. Computational results for real-world problems are presented, showing the effectiveness of this novel approach in comparison with other four approaches found in the literature.

Users' perceptions of applications for public transport systems in Sweden

Hollsten Martinez, Alexander, Lejon, Adam January 2019 (has links)
The issue addressed by thesis is the fact that public transport in Sweden is operated through multiple organisations. All of these have individual applications for planning and paying for travel. It is believed by the authors of this thesis that because of this it is essential that these applications have high user satisfaction so that they are comfortable and easy to use for first time users. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the user satisfaction of Swedish public transport applications with a focus on usability. To gather the data needed to fulfill this purpose a survey was handed out to 103 Swedish people and think aloud test was performed with 5 people. The answers form these 2 investigations were analyzed in regard to usability, cognitive load and the concept of an integrated system. The results of this thesis showed that there were no significant differences between the different public transportation applications in Sweden. This thesis maybe interesting for the different operators providing the applications for public transport, as a groundwork for further development of the applications. As well as being used in the current discussions about implementing a Swedish integrated public transport system.
