Melin, Oliver January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate which pedagogical methods physical education teachers use to integrate norm-critical approaches into their physical education. Furthermore, the purpose is also to examine the degree of awareness the respondents have about and experiences of heteronormativity, and how they can be processed and handled with the help of the queer theory. The research rests on the queer theory that highlights norms that affect sexuality, identity, gender and power. Queer theory does also analyze and problematize the normalization process of norms in social, cultural and historical contexts that exist within the heteronormative framework. I used6qualitative interviews in semi-structured form. Those who were interviewed were active licensed sports teachers, one of the respondents teaching for grades 1-6 and the remaining four respondents working for grade 7–9. The result shows that the respondents believe that they integrate norm-critical approaches into their sport and health education, but that it can to some extent be changed and improved. The result also shows that each respondent has experiences of heteronormativity, which has caused a certain sequence of events or scenario over time. The conclusion is that queer theory can be useful as a norm-critical tool and foundation for concretizing and problematizing the norms that can cause tension, intrigue and exclusion.
