The Origin of the Question: The Structure and Emergence of Questioning in Edmund Husserl's WorkBarrette, Andrew Daniel 01 May 2018 (has links)
In this dissertation, I investigate how questioning appears within Edmund Husserl’s work. I do so through five chapters. In the first, I introduce questioning as a moment of a reason’s striving for truth, as it appears both in the individual and through history. In the second, I clarify how he finds the structure of questioning as an intention that appears to fulfill a questionable experience. In the third, I explicate his analysis of its temporal genesis and fulfillment in the individual. In the fourth, I turn to how he treats the development of questioning across generations, especially as it first emerges from the child’s curiosity. Finally, in the fifth, I give an overview of the transformation of questioning through three stages of history, expressed in myth, science, and phenomenology. Through these chapters, I claim Husserl finds a development of ways of questioning through history but also that questioning itself is an essential moment of this historical development.

‘n Internasionale perspektief op insolvensie-ondervragings : is daar tekortkominge in die Suid-Afrikaanse reg wat gevul moet word?Du Plessis, Anke 01 August 2012 (has links)
LL.M. / The main objective of the South African interrogation procedures during corporate insolvency is to trace and recover all corporate assets. The focus of such procedures is therefore on gathering information rather than investigating any probable causes of the insolvency and failure of the company, as English legislation prescribes. At present in South Africa no reasons have to be supplied to creditors, contributors or the public to explain the failure of companies. This situation contributes to the hesitant and sceptical attitude of the public towards companies and their reluctance to invest in companies. This aspect of our insolvency law can also have a negative impact on the level of foreign investment. The question therefore arises on how the insolvency industry should deal with the various challenges that such a situation presents, which entails at the same time challenging the general effectiveness of the South African insolvency system in its entirety.

The effects of the program Improving classroom instruction through self-analysis" (Parsons, 1975) on the characteristics of verbal interaction in classroom settingsSmith, Robert Whitman 01 January 1975 (has links)
The ICI system consists of materials which guide the teacher in analyzing his own teaching behavior, so that he can gain an objective understanding of his strengths and weaknesses. With the system the only observer is the teacher himself; it is he who will view and analyze the tapes. The classroom thus becomes the learning place for the teacher, as well as for his pupils.
The problem of dealing with the actual process of teaching is quite different from the construction and testing of curriculum content. In this case the focus is on the strategy of presentation, rather than the content of. the presentation. This means that 1) an observational system to help the process of classroom interaction, ! and 2) a set of guidelines to help judge the effectiveness of different teaching strategies, or styles, are needed.
Some observation systems have been designed as· research tools to aid the study of differences between teaching styles and to find out what actual teaching behavior is like; while other systems have been designed as practical tools for teachers themselves to use in analyzing their own teaching behavior. This "self-analysis" may be done for the purpose of simply finding out what one does in the classroom, or it may be part of a self-improvement procedure.
ICI has been designed to help teachers improve their teaching through the analysis of videotaped recordings of their own teaching.
The present study is concerned with testing the effectiveness of the ICI package in helping teachers improve their own teaching.

Art as a questioning processPerez, Elizabeth 01 December 2012 (has links)
The topic of this thesis is, broadly, the crisis of postmodernity and the solution that French rhetorician, Michel Meyer, presents in his theory “problematology.†Meyer looks to relocate the focus of philosophical attention on the question as opposed to the answer. Meyer calls preoccupation with answers “propositionalism.†Propositionalism can be likened to the looming scientism that threatens philosophy in general. Meyer shows, through an examination of questioning, how philosophy can be rescued from obsolescence without being detracted to scientism. Although Meyer’s philosophy is promising, it could not be considered thorough if it did not address art. Using Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari’s definition of art as externalized experience, this thesis will explore whether or not Meyer has examined the important relationship between art and philosophy. Through analysis of his three main books in English along with multiple essays, this thesis shows that, although Meyer did not examine art to a great extent, his philosophy contains underlying themes that correspond to the art world. If Meyer’s philosophy is shown to be thorough enough in every respect, it could serve as a new starting point for thought. Meyer’s philosophy has the potential to pioneer a new paradigm of thought that has not been previously explored.
