Hvordan ville Jesus anmeldt dette spillet? : – en studie av kristne videospillsnettsider gjennom perspektivet medialisering av religion.

Mæhle Førland, Jostein January 2020 (has links)
This study aims to show how the religious worldview of the christian gaming site Geeks under Grace shapes their view on videogames and gaming culture. The goal is to understand the material through Hjarvards theories of mediatization of religion (2011), more specifically the aspects ”Media as language” and ”Media as Enviroment”. The following research questions are formulated to conduit this research: ”How do the authors and editors behind the website Geeks under Grace use religion and religious terms in understanding video games?” and ”How can the website Geeks under Grace be understood based on the dynamics ”Media as language” and ”media as environment”, according to the perspective mediatization of religion”. Through textual analysis of video game reviews and essays about christianity and gaming the study shows an individualistic form for christianity present in the material. Furthermore, it shows how the website makes frames and environments where they combine elements from both the world of gaming and the world of christianity to try to make a sense of belonging, and at the same time try to teach religious values through the use of videogames.
