Haplós : towards technologies for, and applications of, somaesthetics

Maranan, Diego Silang January 2017 (has links)
How can vibrotactile stimuli be used to create a technology-mediated somatic learning experience? This question motivates this practice-based research, which explores how the Feldenkrais Method and cognate neuroscience research can be applied to technology design. Supported by somaesthetic philosophy, soma-based design theories, and a critical acknowledgement of the socially-inflected body, the research develops a systematic method grounded in first- and third-person accounts of embodied experience to inform the creation and evaluation of design of Haplós, a wearable, user-customisable, remote-controlled technology that plays methodically composed vibrotactile patterns on the skin in order to facilitate body awareness—the major outcome of this research and a significant contribution to soma-based creative work. The research also contributes to design theory and somatic practice by developing the notion of a somatic learning affordance, which emerged during course of the research and which describes the capacity of a material object to facilitate somatic learning. Two interdisciplinary collaborations involving Haplós contribute to additional fields and disciplines. In partnership with experimental psychologists, Haplós was used in a randomised controlled study that contributes to cognitive psychology by showing that vibrotactile compositions can reduce, with statistical significance, intrusive food-related thoughts. Haplós was also used in Bisensorial, an award-winning, collaboratively developed proof-of-concept of a neuroadaptive vibroacoustic therapeutic device that uses music and vibrotactile stimuli to induce desired mental states. Finally, this research contributes to cognitive science and embodied philosophy by advancing a neuroscientific understanding of vibrotactile somaesthetics, a novel extension of somaesthetic philosophy.

Mackert, Christoph 21 December 2010 (has links)

Uchazeč o studium v placených programech jako cílová skupina online persvaze FSV UK / An applicant for a paid study programme as a target audience of online persuasion by FSV UK

Čuprová, Michaela January 2020 (has links)
The subject of the diploma thesis is the process of online persuasion in the case of higher education applicants for bachelor's and master's programmes at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University (FSV UK) subject to tuition fees. The selected programmes form a specific class within the set of study programmes offered by the faculty resulting in necessity of different promotion strategies. The specificity of these programmes lies in the primary focus on multidisciplinarity, specific target group and the requirement of tuition fee payment. Online marketing and the recipient's persuasion being an effective tool gaining attention rapidly in recent years is the focus of this thesis. The attitudes of the main actors involved in the online persuasion in case of FSV UK are analyzed employing both quantitative (a questionnaire survey) and qualitative (semi-structured interviews with applicants and students) approaches. A SWOT analysis is performed based on a theoretical framework of information from universities, university marketing, marketing mix of universities and the persuasive principles and tools used to persuade the applicants to apply for studies at FSV UK. The work concludes with a summary of results obtained in a proposal of marketing strategy optimization for the Department of Public...

Sociologický pohled na zdravotnickou záchrannou službu / Sociological insight into the emergency medical service

Koudela, Ondřej January 2011 (has links)
This paper brings critical sociological analysis of contemporary situation on the EMS field in Czech Republic and discovers several topics which seemed to be less emphasized at that time. The result of the study is complex description of the EMT's personality, particular types, the population as a whole, specific relationships between variables and a few problems identified during the survey. Using mixed design research methods, the author deals with the emergency medical services in Czech Republic and it's employees. Based on the narrative data collected in speeches with the EMS staff, the typology of EMT's was created, considering their work attitudes, and a set of hypothesis was created as well. On this basis the continuing quantitative research was designed, verifying the validity of previous findings. The paper offers possible directions, how to continue in forthcoming research.
