Obytný soubor Brno-Řečkovice / Residential complex Brno - ReckoviceMikesková, Denisa January 2013 (has links)
Residential Brno - Řečkovice A main task of this diploma thesis to propose the use of previosly undeveloped areas for the housing and also establish to the original structure of the village comunity by effective utilization of these areas. The ground is located in distrikt Řečkovice and Mokrá Hora in Brno. The Řečkovice cadastral is defined by Žilkova and Terezy Novákové street. North protperty line is determined by Ivanovice cadastral number 1035/26. The site is bounded by existing terraced and detached houses and apartment buildings on the northeast side. The south side is is formed by former barracks and northwest side provide open countryside towards Ivanovice. The development is designed to became a separate distrikt of Brno. The funcitonal areas are able to place residental house of different categories, also public facilities, recreation areas and public open space with all kinds of greenery. A main idea of the concept was to create residental comlex with a functional center that will not compete to existing center of Řečkovice. Densities are highest by the main road following the expected denser development of former barracks. They decreases ito the existing development along Žilkova street. The protective zone for pipeline is used as a city park. The proposed concept of functional areas clearly define continuity and transport infrastructure by design of buildings in different categories that meets all needs of future residents. Plenty of green space for recreation will also ensure functionality and efficient use of this unit.

INTRODUCTION: Humans have long been interested in nature and its impact on humanity. From a historical perspective, the nature and the relevance of the environment has played an important role within the healthcare profession. Through Florence Nightingales approach and methodological work, the link between the nursing environment and the patients’ health was established. Contemporary research and the Attention Restoration Theory (ART) shows both physiological and psychological benefits when humans integrate with natural areas compared to urban environments. With this background, it is utmost important for nurses and other healthcare professionals to be conscious of the value of nature and its meaning for people who live in residential facilities. AIM: The aim of this literature study was to describe the value of outdoors visits and its meaning/importance for people who live in residential facilities. METHOD: The design of this study is a descriptive literature review and includes 12 scientific articles in the results. RESULTS: In general, the value of outdoor visits was associated with positive benefits. The residents valued outdoor visits highly and that outdoor stays generated feelings of joy, harmony, freedom and wellbeing. In contrast, when they did not have the opportunity to visit the garden, they experienced feelings of disappointment and reduced wellbeing. The main reasons for outdoor visits were to get fresh air, sunlight, enjoy the vegetation and experience togetherness. The orientation to time and space became better when the residents could see changes in nature's different seasons throughout the year. It was shown that a structured and well thought out garden with abundant vegetation improved the resident’s mood as well as strengthened their sense of freedom, regardless of any restrictions on their physical ability. Unfortunately, the gardens were not always designed and adapted to the needs of the residents. Too many barriers regarding outdoor visits could cause that the residents may choose to stay indoors although they wished to and needed to visit the garden. CONCLUSION: If nurses and other healthcare professionals includes a satisfying outdoor environment and outdoor visits on a regular basis in the perspective of caring, it contributes resident’s quality of life, recovery and stimulates their sense of harmony. However, there is a need for more frequently outdoor visits and more freely accessibility to the garden for the residents. Therefore, the authors of the present literature study hope to inspire future research to increase the evidence of natures impact on and value for people living in resident facilities.

Privatization of Florida Juvenile Residential FacilitiesHancock, Katherine 01 January 2014 (has links)
Privatization of juvenile facilities and services has been the norm since the inception of the juvenile justice system. However, little research has been performed examining the impact of privatization on juvenile justice, despite the possible repercussions of this policy for the juveniles served. Prior research on privatization in other fields has tended to find a connection between privatization and outcomes; however, very little research has examined how privatization impacts operations, how operations impact recidivism, and how privatization and operations interact to produce juvenile justice outcomes. This exploratory study, informed by cybernetic systems theory and principal-agent theory, examined the mechanism by which privatization influences juvenile recidivism by exploring the possible mediating effect of facility operations. Using annual juvenile facility evaluation and recidivism data collected by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice through 548 evaluations performed on 158 facilities from 2003-2006, this research examined whether facility operations mediated the relationship between ownership (public, for-profit, and non-profit) and juvenile recidivism. Multilevel analyses were completed using Stata software to account for the clustered nature of the data (facilities nested within provider companies). The results from multilevel regression analyses indicated no relationship between ownership type and either operations or recidivism. However, multilevel regression analyses indicated significant inverse relationships between recidivism and each of four of the operational variables: program management, health care services, security, and intervention management. A mediating relationship was not supported. Results also indicated that both provider company and characteristics of the juveniles served were significant predictors of both operational variables and recidivism. These results suggest that privatization concerns may be more suitably focused on identifying the appropriate provider company rather than on choosing the appropriate ownership type. In addition, during the contract negotiation stage, juvenile justice administrators may wish to incorporate policies and/or incentives into the contract that are related to juvenile characteristics. Recommendations for future research are also discussed.

Title: Sexuality of people with mental disability and autism spectrum disorders in residential facilities in South Bohemia Author: Bc. Veronika Beránková Supervisor: Doc. PhDr. Jan Šiška, Ph.D. ABSTRACT This thesis solves the attitude of the sexuality of people with mental disability and autism spectrum disorders in residential facilities in South Bohemia. We specifically wonder, if there is any work with sexuality and in which way. Chosen research problems were solved during an interview with the employees of the facility whoch provides residential services. Then we did an analysis of the interview by coding and categorization of answers. In the final stage, emerged from the analysis of the interviews main interests of respondents and their attitudes to the sexuality topic. We created a summary which shows how staff work with sexuality of clients with mental disability and autism spectrum disorders and which are their individual attitudes. The benefit of this thesis is effort of explanation our topic to the general public and to the facilities providing residential social services itself. KEYWORDS Mental disability, autism spectrum disorders, sexuality, residential facilities, social services.

The Perceived Role of the University Residence Hall DirectorAkers, Jan 01 June 1978 (has links)
This study was concerned with locating areas of differences in residents' perceptions of the role of the director --either a young professional or a "dorm mother" type--in their own residence halls on the 'estern Kentucky University campus. The perceptions were obtained through the use of a twenty-one item instrument (developed by the researcher) to which 1,111 students responded. The data were tabulated by sex, by residence nails, by halls with young professional directors, by halls with older "dorm mother" directors, and by a total overall. Slight differences were found between male and female students and between the various groups. However, the two sexes did differ in their perceptions of the role of the university residence hall director. Recommendations were made and also implications for additional research were identified as a result of this study.

Falls in older people in geriatric care settings : predisposing and precipitating factorsKallin, Kristina January 2004 (has links)
Falls and their consequences are a major health problem in the older population, increasing their immobility, morbidity and mortality. This thesis focuses on older people living in geriatric care settings, frail older people who are most prone to suffer falls. The aim was to study predisposing and precipitating factors associated with falls in older people with or without cognitive impairment. In a cross-sectional study with a one-year prospective follow-up for falls 63% of the 83 residents suffered 163 falls and 65% of the fallers fell more than once. The antidepressants selective serotonine reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), impaired vision and being unable to use stairs independently were the factors most strongly associated with sustaining falls. Acute diseases were judged to have precipitated 32 % of the falls and drug side effects 9%. In another cross-sectional study with a one-year follow-up for falls, including 199 residents, previous falls and treatment with antidepressants (mainly SSRIs) were found to be the most important predisposing factor for falls. Acute disease was judged to be the precipitating factor alone or in combination, in 39% of the falls, medical drugs in 8%, external factors such as obstacles in 8% and other conditions both related to the individual and the environment, such as misinterpretation, misuse of roller walkers or mistakes made by the staff were judged to have precipitated 17% of the falls. In a population-based cross-sectional study including 3604 residents in geriatric care settings more than 8% sustained a fall at least once during the preceding week. A history of falls, the ability to get up from a chair, the need for a helper when walking, pain, cognitive impairment, use of neuroleptics and use of antidepressants were all associated with falls in multivariate analyses. In the subgroup of people with cognitive impairment (2008 residents) more than 9% had sustained a fall at least once during the preceding week. As for the whole population, being able to get up from a chair, previous falls, needing a helper when walking with the addition of hyperactive symptoms were the factors independently associated with falls. In a study with a one-year prospective follow up for falls, including 439 residents in residential care facilities, 63% sustained 1354 falls, corresponding to an incidence rate of 3.5 falls / person year. Thirty-three percent of the falls and 37% of the injurious falls occurred during the night (9pm-6am). There were significantly higher fall rates in the evening and in January, April, May, November and December. There were no associations between fall rates and any of the weather parameters studied. In conclusion falls and fall-related injuries in older people in geriatric care settings are common. Both predisposing and precipitating factors contribute to the risk of falling. Addressing precipitating factors for falls seems to be important in an individualised preventive strategy among older people in geriatric care settings.

Práce s rizikem v pobytových zařízeních sociálních služeb / Work with risk in residential social servicesŠmok, Petr January 2018 (has links)
The diploma thesis focuses on the term risk in human life in general, as it is seen in the society and defined by current knowledge in the field of social science. Furthermore, the thesis explores the risk as a phenomenon connected to the social services. The social integration of disadvantaged groups of inhabitants into majority society have brought with it the need to defend the rights of people with disabilities, with an emphasis on their active involvement in everyday life, in seeking the opportunity to experience those situations that define this life. This focus brings a number of theoretical solutions for risk planning with respect to clients of social services. These solutions have been further taken into account in this section of the thesis. The experimental part of thesis focuses on the perception of risks by the employees who work in residential facilities in Zlín district, directly taking care of clients. This part of the thesis provides a relevant insight into risk awareness in selected residential facilities and its active use in practice. Consequently, it deals with other factors that may affect employees of facilities for people with disabilities when assessing risk planning and generally concerning their perception of the risk phenomenon in clients with mental disabilities. Obytný soubor Brno - Červený kopec / The residential area in Brno - Červený kopecFlám, Dalibor January 2013 (has links)
The subject of this master's thesis is to design a residential complex in Brno in a part Červený kopec. My design is placed on the platform, where once stood a Kohn's brickyard, one of the largest brickworks in Brno. The design tries to follow up not only the existing buildings, but the buildings that stood here during the period of greatest prosperity of the company. The right side of the houses follows the side panel installations and left sides of the border again the original brick. Houses are designed as simple blocks which are used in most of the different variants. Color solution is again inspired by the bricks. Part of houses and pavements is therefore in red.
