Syllabic and prosodic approaches to rhythmic composition: a collective instrumental case study

Eves, R. David 21 July 2008 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to observe and document the manner through which eight students from two separate Grade 2 classes combined both syllabic (musical) and prosodic (word) rhythmic composing strategies during an eight week composing unit. Through the triangulation of data collected in the form of a research journal, student compositions, videotapes of composing behaviour, and transcriptions of group student interviews, integrated and music dominated group composing processes emerged, as well as four dominant trends of composing behaviour. First, a dialectical relationship between phrasal development and conception of meter was observed to exist depending upon student choice of composing strategy. Second, the influence of leadership roles was observed to play a dominant role in the determination of group composing process. Third, students exhibited differing modes of rhythmic perception during the assembly and performance stages of composition. Fourth and finally, an ambiguity regarding future preferred composing strategy was noted by students. Implications for education include the integration of cross-curricular (music and language) composing units. Further study of the influence of cooperative learning and student perception of meter within the domain of composition is recommended as children were capable of generating linguistic and musical learning opportunities “from the inside-out.”

Effet de la stimulation rythmique audio-tactile sur les mouvements de coordination / Effect of audio-tactile rhythmic stimulation on the coordination of movements

Roy, Charlotte 24 March 2017 (has links)
Our ability to merge information coming from several senses is crucial to produce and regulate our body movements. The main objective of this thesis is to study the effects of multisensory integration factors on our sensorimotor rhythmic behaviours. The multisensory integration effects on these behaviours are not well understood, being seldom studied. However, those behaviours characterize most of our daily activities such as walking, writing or doing sports. So far, multisensory processes have essentially been studied with regard to our discrimination and detection skills, highlighting the necessity of a temporal synchrony between senses for their integration. The consequences of this temporal coherence and the associated mechanisms have never been tested on sensorimotor rhythmic behaviours. Thus, we will extend their effects to these behaviours. Besides, literature shows that the movements’ features modify the processing of sensory information and can influence multisensory integration. We will test the effects of the stability of the sensorimotor system, i.e. intrinsic stability of gait, on the multisensory integration. The two main contributions of the thesis are the following ones: (1) Rhythmic behaviours obey the same principles as temporal discrimination and detection behaviours. Our results generalize the effects of temporal coherence and show for the first time a multisensory benefit on gait. (2) We suggest a novel sensorimotor compensatory assumption, highlighting the adaptive use of multisensory information by the sensorimotor system, which compensates the decrease of the intrinsic stability of the gait with a larger and/or better use of external audio-tactile information.

Initially developed theoretical background on the evolution of climate studies from those achieved by traditional peoples, passing by the first climate formulations in Geography from Humboldt, Hann, Koppen, De Martonne, Strahler, Sorre and Pedelaborde, reaching Carlos Augusto Figueiredo Monteiro, responsible for this development tools applied to geographic foundations of understanding of climate. So the work is theoretical and methodological foundation Monteiro (1973), fundamental to the development of a climate characterization with emphasis on regional atmospheric circulation. Based on Monteiro (1973), the work follows a regional spatial scale, since the atmospheric dynamics can only be understood from this definition, and timescale delimited from the standard years. Further details was carried out in climatic element precipitation, identifying those weather systems responsible for the rainy and dry season. Thus develops a study of the genesis of rainfall for the state of Ceará, based on regional dynamics. The procedures adopted were conducted based on the natural succession rhythm of the types of time, designed from standard years and the application of rhythmic analysis, responsible for providing subsidies to the preparation of the participation rates of atmospheric systems that spatialized were used as a basis the attempted synthesis of regional atmospheric circulation for the state of Ceará.

Bernardi, Patrícia Silveira Fontana January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this study was to present a theoretical-explanatory motivational model for the training of Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG), based on the Theory of Self- Determination (SDT). The SDT, when applied to sports, posits that the satisfaction of basic psychological needs of competence, autonomy and relatedness is critical to the growth, integrity and psychological well being of the athletes. It also postulates that the training environment plays an important role in the athlete’s self-determination. To present the theoretical-explanatory motivational model mentioned above, this study sought at first to characterize the RG training environment, to verify if it met the basic psychological needs established by the SDT. The methodological approach was of the mixed type, Research subjects were coaches of RG of the Rio Grande do Sul State, affiliated to the Brazilian Gymnastics Federation and working in national championships in the youth category. To collect the information, three instruments were used: the Variables Control Identification Questionnaire (QIVC), semi-structured Interview and the Observation Sheet for Analysis of Psychological Basic Needs in Training Environment (FOANPBAT). Five observations of training environment of each of the coaches were performed. For the interpretation of the data collected in interviews and field notes it was used the technique of content analysis. For the analysis of data obtained in the observations of the training environment, it was considered the frequencies of occurrence of the evaluation categories. The results demonstrated that the training environment provided by RG coaches was partially according to the basic psychological need of competence. Regarding the psychological need for autonomy, the training environment did not attend the aspects established by the SDT. As to the relatedness psychological need, most of the aspects postulated by SDT were present in the training environment. The result’s frequencies of occurrence showed that 69,73% of the competence items were met, 59,37% of autonomy items were not met, and 73,12% of relatedness items were met.

Detoni Filho, Adriano January 2014 (has links)
The Rhythmic Gymnastics is practiced, in almost its totality, by girls, for whom the sports initiation starts early. Thinness is a prevalent characteristic in athletes, due to the caloric restrictions made, that can affect the water balance. Moreover, the training sessions are long (3-4 hours daily), which could cause a non adequate recovery between training sessions and competitions. Thus, the combination of food restriction with the water loss by sweating and the long training sessions can enhance dehydration and, adversely, impair the physiological responses, the performance and the thermal comfort from training. Aim: Compare physiological responses and perceptions of girls athletes of Rhythmic Gymnastics between one training session without hydration and other with controlled hydration. Methods: Fourteen girls athletes of Rhythmic Gymnastics who trained during a period of approximately one year. None of them had a diagnosis of chronic disease or made use of medicaments. They were evaluated in two training sessions (105 minutes each), one with controlled hydration (CH) and other without hydration (WH). The heart rate (HR), rate of perceived exertion (RPE), thermal sensation (TS), thermal comfort (TC) and irritability (IR) were measured periodically. The sweating was evaluated, in each training session, by collecting a sample of sweat to analyze the concentration of electrolytes (Na+, Cl- e K+). The maximal strength test (dynamometry) and the test of reaction time pre and post training session were performed. To literature review, were selected 42 articles in data base ScIELO, Scopus and PubMed with the keywords: hydration, sweating, exercise, children, RhythmicGymnastics, youngathlete. Results: All athletes started training sessions in similar conditions of hydration (minimal hypohydration), according to urinary parameters. In CH training session, we find a dehydration percentage of 0,07%, while in training session WH was 1,15%. The strength decreased in WS session (p=0,013), while no modification occurred in reaction test in both sessions. The RPE on minute 25 was higher than in training session WH. The TS, on minute 105, was higher in session WH. The TC and the IR were similar between sessions. Greater concentration of Na+ in urine was observed in training session WH. A hypohydration degree above 1% can harm components of physical fitness, thermal comfort, as motivation and cognition, impacting the athlete performance in training and competition. Conclusion: Hydration is essential to ensure the young athletes performance and health. In short, majority young athletes can’t ingest a necessary amount to avoid dehydration.

This work is centered on the concept of generalized periodicity as proposed by Belgian composer Henri Pousseu (1929-2009), aiming to investigate some of the most remarkable transformations in rhythmic and temporal organization in 20th century concert music, specifically concerning the experience of serialism in post-war Europe. Periodicity is also approached through Information Theory, accordingly to the developments made by French theorist Abraham Moles (1920-1992), fundamental reference for Pousseur´s work. After a conceptual presentation of the generalized periodicity, a case study of its compositional application is provided by an analysis of the work Apostrophe et six réflexions (1964-1966), written by the Belgian composer by the time this concept was formulated.
