The thesis studies the processes of construction and reconstruction of Rodrigo Melo Franco de Andrade as monument-man throughout time. Rodrigo remained director during 30 years and his management has been known as the institution’s “heroic phase”. The study is divided in four chapters and aims to analyze the different discursive formations related to the director, investigating, firstly, his choice for the institution direction, his progressive identification with it and the formation of a network of collaborators and staff. Then the thesis examines different tributes paid to Rodrigo and IPHAN during the celebrations of the institution's 20th, 25th and 30th anniversary, and the awarding of four titles of Honorary Degree and Literary Supplements dedicated to celebrating the 70th anniversary of the first director of the federal agency.Following, starting from 1969, year of his death, the thesis problematizes a series of publications dedicated to the first director, specially “A lição de Rodrigo”, de 1969, and the books “Rodrigo e seus tempos” e “Rodrigo e o SPHAN”, de 1986 e 1987, respectively. The three publications are understood as documents-monuments that fundament the director’s images from an institutional perspective. Finally, the thesis investigates the uses of Rodrigo Melo Franco de Andrade’s images in dissertations and theses related to the field of Brazilian cultural heritage between 1989 and 2012.

A Comparative Study of Strength and Stiffness of Thin-Walled Specimens Fabricated By FDM and 3D Printing TechnologiesRodrigo, Miranda 11 July 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Rapid Prototyped part failure constitutes a major issue for both RP providers and customers. When parts fail the reputation of the vendor is heavily deteriorated, customer dissatisfaction increase and replacement of the broken parts is often necessary to avoid the loss of future business. Product design teams often run into situations where Rapid Prototyped parts are not able to withstand shipping and handling and delivered broken or while demonstrating and examining the parts. When done in the face of customers this builds a perception of poor quality and lack of aptitude on the design group as well as the RP processes. The rapid advance of the RP industry and technology has led users to employ RP parts for structural applications where the need to understand in great detail and accuracy the mechanical behavior of the product and its individual components is greater than ever. Models built on Rapid Prototyping (RP) equipment are most often made from polymers which frequently have mechanical properties that are inferior to those manufactured by traditional methods such as thermoforming or injection molding. Not only are the mechanical properties of RP models typically low, they are usually, at least in thin sections, directly dependent on the section or wall thickness of the models. This dependence of strength on wall thickness makes it difficult to predict a proper wall thickness for RP models, even when nominal values of material strength are known. The purpose of this work is to present and compare measured values of tensile strength and stiffness as a function of wall thickness for three RP processes and materials. These properties will assist designers estimating adequate minimum wall thicknesses for models built by the three processes. The three RP technologies included in the scope of this research are: Z Corporation (powder with polymer binder layup), Fuse Deposition Modeling and PolyJet Layup (Objet). The findings of this study establish that tensile strength and stiffness values are dependent upon wall thickness, building orientation and direction of the applied force of specimens created with the methods in consideration. It was also determined that the correlation between thickness and strength for all processes is non-linear. Due to these results a single tensile strength and modulus value for each material and all wall thicknesses do not accurately represent their behavior. However, these results will allow a designer to understand the relationship between the wall thickness and using the data provided in this work be able to model and then fabricate adequate 3D prototypes.

Adriana Falcão, Flávio Carneiro, Rodrigo Lacerda e a literatura juvenil brasileira no início do século XXILuft, Gabriela Fernanda Cé January 2010 (has links)
The present research offers a study on the Brazilian youth literature published in the first decade of the XXI century, through the analysis of books awarded by the National Foundation of the Children and Youth Books (FNLIJ) and by the Brazilian Camera of Books (CBL), that grants the Jabuti award. Starting from data systematized by Marisa Lajolo and Regina Zilberman, a brief panorama of the Brazilian children and youth literature from 1890 to 1980 is presented. Such contextualization allows the outline of the course and of the tendencies of this genre along that period of time. After that, having the studies developed by Teresa Colomer as a basis, it is exposed the main lines of the current youth literature, which are compared with the characteristics of the juvenile narratives that were awarded from 2001 to 2009. Once a typology of the Brazilian contemporary youth literature was established, the following works, Luna Clara & Apolo Onze (2002), by Adriana Falcão, A distância das coisas (2008), by Flávio Carneiro, and O fazedor de velhos (2008), by Rodrigo Lacerda, are studied. They are analyzed, based in the studies of theory of the narrative developed by Carlos Reis, Ana Cristina Lopes, Antonio Candido and Yves Reuter, among others, having categories as plot, character, narrator, time, space, language and the predominant themes, to be observed. Through the reading, the observation, the analysis and the comparison of the works that integrate the corpus, the research aims to present the characteristics of the Brazilian youth literature produced in the first decade of the XXI century, with the objective of answering which the main tendencies of the genre and which its position in the national scenery are. It is verified the appearance of a reasonable number of new authors, the diversity of themes approached and the increase of the narrative complexity.

This dissertation proposes an analysis of representative texts that portray the earthquake that hit Mexico City in 1985 as a historical event that contributed to forging new ways of interaction among the people itself, as well as between the community as a whole and its government. By examining the representations of this historically important episode in the life of the city, this project compensates for a significant omission of literary criticism—that has relegated the substantial corpus of texts about this catastrophe to brief comments or footnotes on other topics.
Through analysis of testimonial chronicles, newspaper articles, political cartoons, music videos, poetry, drama, and narratives, this dissertation investigates the process through which intellectuals created discursive constructions of a new relationship between Mexican society and its government. The following pages give an account of the debate to shape the historical interpretation of the catastrophe: some texts challenged the patrimonialism institutionalized by the government bureaucracy of the PRI State, while others supported the structures in place even though they acknowledged the need for a nimbler bureaucracy. Therefore, this study is focused on texts that incorporate previous discursive traditions to propose new symbolic ways to understand the nation after the earthquake. This discussion engages texts by authors committed to diverse perspectives—such as Elena Poniatowska, Carlos Monsiváis, José Emilio Pacheco, Carlos Olmos, Enrique Serna, and Rodrigo Fresán, among others—to offer a panorama on the arguments presented on the cultural field. This dissertation considers four specific moments in the construction of the new national narrative: (1) the call for solidarity with the victims of the disaster; (2) the redefinition of the idea of civil society; (3) the debate within mass media to impose a particular meaning to both solidarity and civil society; and (4) the questioning of the main discourses related to the earthquake. This study illuminates the ways that the earthquake narratives have been deployed to challenge political inequities and injustices and to attempt political change towards a modern Mexican State.
