Polar, Jorge, Polar, Jorge January 1878 (has links)

Cintra, Renata. January 2013 (has links)
Abstract: This research has as object the figures of rulers Julius Caesar and Augustus in the De Uita Caesarum, and will seek an analysis of the representativeness of the heroic characters and their ideals explored in this biographical narrative developed in the governments of Trajan and Hadrian (98 to 138 AD), First emperors of the Antonina Dynasty. For this it is necessary to understand some aspects around the figure of the hero and the formation of myth. The ideological framework was based on the structure of propaganda that sought to build the image of infallible princeps, demigod, future divus and provider of justice. The Romans also had as a support of the construction of this image, in terms of concrete reality, the Senate, the generals and the military forces, and especially a complex and utilitarian cerimonial apparatus, able to keep the categories of moral values in the levels desired by the constituted power. When studying the trajectory of the construction of the characters of Caesar and Augustus, in the De Uita Caesarum of Suetonius, it becomes essential to consider the role of the public Roman religion, as well as its ritual and mythical manifestations. Thus, verifying the figure of General and princeps in this source, we seek to understand the remission to the political and religious practices of the first century BC, the final period of the Roman Republic. / Mestre

________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation deals with the links between ekpyrosis, or final conflagration, and Hellenistic astrology. Both themes were dear to Stoic philosophers, who admittedly took them far beyond these origins. Thus, ekpyrosis turns, from astrological-moral theme to a mere natural phenomenon (albeit understood in astrological terms) in Seneca and the Stoics. The theme suggests a link to that of the sacred fire.

Diskriminace Romů v České republice ? / Discrimination against Roma in the Czech Republic ?

Buday, Marek January 2013 (has links)
1 Abstract - Discrimination against Roma in Czech Republic? The purpose of my thesis is to analyse the issue of discrimination against the Roma people in the Czech Republic, particularly from the perspective of the state - whether the Roma ethnic group in our country is indeed discriminated against and how the state copes with this possible racial discrimination. This theme became more important in connection with the riots in Šluknov in 2011. The thesis is divided into four main chapters. Chapter One deals with the history of Roma-related legal acts promulgated in our lands. It covers the history from the arrival of the Roma in our lands, the promulgation of legal acts during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and Czechoslovakia, until the effort of the Communist Party to assimilate them. Chapter Two is focused on the discrimination against Roma in education. In this chapter I analyse the judgment of the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights on the case D. H. and others vs. Czech Republic. On this judgement, the court held that there was discrimination against the Roma concerning their access to education and violation of the European Convention on Human Rights and its protocols by the Czech Republic. After an evaluation of this judgement I propose some measures which could lead to the elimination...

Roma in the Czech Republic: Adolescence, Identity and Schooling. A Case Study of Three Teenage Girls from Prague

Rajkovic, Ivana January 2013 (has links)
This study focuses on the identities and self-perception of Roma adolescents in the Czech Republic and the educational implications these may have for this particular group of students. In particular it attempts to shed light on how these individuals perceive themselves, their schooling and future adult roles they expect to take on in life. Furthermore, the perceptions and involvement of Roma parents was also examined in an attempt to explore their views on education that they transmit to their children. A theoretical framework was developed based upon the ecological systems theory, theories on the identity development in adolescence, ethnic minority identity as well as the existing literature on the schooling of ethnic minority pupils. A qualitative approach followed by a multiple case study design was taken with semi-structured interviews as the research method. The empirical study was conducted with three female participants from one low-threshold facility for children and youth in Prague. Data was analysed using the phenomenological approach which regards the reality not as a given entity but as socially constructed by individuals according to their everyday experiences. The key findings of the study suggest that Roma children do not have negative identities developed, there are no negative values they...

Roma Education in Post-Communist Eastern Europe: Pathways for Intervention to Reduce Incidents of Social Exclusion

Lau, Garrett January 2016 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Peter Skerry / The post-communist political shift to liberal democracies in Eastern Europe has given new hope to Romani communities scattered across the region. However, plagued by a history entangled with episodes of slavery, persecution, and extermination, many Roma remain wary about this transition, lacking faith that it truly extends beyond a nominal domain. This paper first offers a critical exploration into unpacking Roma culture – specifically their material disadvantage and discrimination – from both an abstract and realist perspective. By properly understanding the relationship between their experience with poverty and desires for cultural autonomy, forming a rational, multi-level plan to intervene becomes more accessible. Ultimately, this leads to a series of policy interventions, particularly in the realm of primary and secondary education. Looking closely at this one area of the Roma experience with non-Roma institutions could provide key insights into their interaction with other overlapping exchanges, help to break down the centuries-old legacy of distrust and antagonism between the two sides, and promote a healthier environment for cooperation. / Thesis (BA) — Boston College, 2016. / Submitted to: Boston College. Účinnost ochrany lidských práv: Případová studie romské populace v České republice / Effectiveness of human rights protection: Case study of Roma population in the Czech Republic

Idinova, Aidai January 2016 (has links)
Aidai Idinova Abstract The thesis will look at the how effective human rights protection can be, and especially regarding the Roma population in the Czech Republic. As there is a huge number of human rights, this thesis will focus on the right to education. Moreover, the case study of this thesis is the Roma population in the Czech Republic, therefore the rights and livelihoods of the Roma population will be analysed, examined and evaluated in this country. The thesis will also look at four hypotheses and try to find out if there really exists discrimination in the country, and to what extent; whether religion has an effect towards perceptions towards Roma; whether longer education changes one's attitudes towards Roma; and whether a communist past correlates with greater discrimination. But most importantly, this thesis will look at the right to education and the access to education for Roma students. Education is such an important human right as it has long-term effects in Roma's employment, health care and housing opportunities. Therefore, the Czech educational system will be analysed in regards to the socially disadvantaged group of the Roma population.
