Personální politika Československého rozhlasu v letech 1945-1948 / Personnel policy in Czechoslovak radio 1945 - 1948

The aim of this work is to describe how the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia influenced the personnel policy of the Czechoslovak Radio and thereby interfered into radio broadcasting in the years 1945 - 1948. In the introductory chapters thesis focuses on political and economic developments in Czechoslovakia after 1945, with a significant part describing the parliamentary elections in May, 1946. In the following chapters thesis describes the development of media, which had entirely a new socially responsible role. At the same time in the post-war Czechoslovakia there was a prevailing opinion that the media should not be a subject of uncontrolled business anymore, but rather should be under state control. The main part of the thesis describes the development of Radio. At that time the only mass medium also obtained a new role - in the past broadcasting had primarily a entertainment feature, during the Third Republic Radio became an imporant organizer of public life. Under the circumstances various groups had an interest to gain influence in Radio. Mostly communists were successful. It was easier, because they managed to occupy several crucial functions of the management of Radio. The thesis introduces one of the most important personalities of the Czech musical pedagogy of the last century - professor PaedDr. Jaroslav Herden, CSc. Its aim of the thesis is to present the wide range of pedagogical activities he practiced. The thesis consists of six main chapters dealing with Herden's life with the focus on his musical activities, his education and professional growth. The chapters analyse Herden's experience at the Faculty of Education at Charles University in Prague and his publication and broadcast activities. This work also mentions the Summer School of Music, as Herden was its founder. The last part of the thesis focuses on the heritage of this extraordinary personage.

This thesis deals with the issue of The Council for Radio and Television Broadcasting (the Council). The Council is an administrative office, which the public has little information about, and this lack of facts often results in various misunderstandings. The main objective of this thesis is to provide information about the Council and its activities and thus help to eliminate these mistakes and lack of knowledge. The thesis combines the administrative law and the media law. The thesis is composed of two major parts. The Council in general is dealt with in the first part. The history is summarized, the Council as an independent administrative regulatory authority is described and further examples of such administrative offices are provided in this part. The areas in which the Council operates are presented in the second part of this thesis, which is divided into three chapters according the main laws concerning the broadcasting. The first one deals with the law on broadcasting. Key broadcasting licenses and basic obligations of broadcasters are discussed in this chapter. The second chapter is about the law on the regulation of advertising. Komparace současného ranního vysílání Radiožurnálu a Rádia Impuls / A comparative study of contemporary morning broadcast Radiozurnal and Radio Impuls

The master thesis called "A comparative study of contemporary morning broadcast Radiozurnal and Radio Impuls" presents broadcasting comparation of this two radio stations. Both of them are the most listened stations in the Czech Republic, they are also the biggest competitors. Radiozurnal is Czech radio's public station and Radio Impuls is commercial station, therefore, thesis is based on the assumption that their program is different. The main part of this master thesis is content analysis, which was made between two weeks in the end of January and in the beginning of February 2019. The morning broadcast of both stations was analyzed on the basis of three reasearch questions, in terms of thematic focus, local focus and genre focus. The analysis includes a comparasion of language style. The research results are compared and shown in charts and graphs. Based on literature, the master thesis also defines specific features of radio broacasting and its genre forms. The specific methodology of morning broadcasting of both station is based on interviews with the editors.

The graduation thesis Development of the Radio Broadcasting as a Cultural Change is designed as a cultural comparative study of the development of the radio in Czechoslovakia and the United States of America as a cultural change (the origin and transformation of the cultural element). The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical part and an analytical part. The theoritical part defines basic problems and deals with history of mediae in the world. The focus of this part is characterization of Czechoslovakian and American radio broadcasting. The analytical part is devoted to analysis of empirical data, predominantly to secondary analysis of accessible data regarding radio development. This part also focuses on culturological interpretation or reintepretation of results of the analysis. The concluding chapter deals with comparison of the development of the radio in Czechoslovakia and the USA.

Antoni Ludwicki Development of the radio broadcast news after the World War II Abstract The aim of this thesis is the analysis of changes in style of radio broadcast news in the second half of the 20th century. The main source for this research is the Archive of Czech radio. Theoretical part of this work contains scientific literature and the determination what a radio broadcast news should be like. This part contains also a description of radio broadcasking in Czechoslovakia before the World War II. A significant part of this work contains transcriptions and analyses of recording of radio news. The analysis begins with records from 1968 as no data was found on the research in the Archive of Czech radio before that date. The research was divided into chapters based on historical events. Last part of the analysis of style is the comparison between theoretical and practical research and conclusions. The purpose of this thesis is the analysis of style in radio broadcast news and changes of this style within chosen decades.

Diploma thesis development of Normative Perspectives on Media in Czech Society with Respect to Chosen Verdicts of the Council of Radio and Television Broadcasting" discusses the media policy of the Council. It analyses three different periods which strongly influenced the Council's roles and competencies. First one refers to the fact that Council awarded first nationwide private television broadcasting license to CET 21. This event contributed to the establishment of dual media system as well as invoked numerous discussions. Second studied period discusses about the amendment of Broadcasting Law in 1995, which stripped the Council of one of its important regulatory tools by removing several licensing conditions for the broadcasters. It was followed by the new amendment in 1997 that gave back to the Council several competencies to execute its media policy. Final period examines verdict, when the Council in 2001 awarded digital television licenses which were immediately canceled by the court's decision. Regulation is the main theme of this thesis. It is a part o a certain media policy that results from a particular nature of a society. The theoretical part builds upon the perspectives of normative approaches that are implemented in democratic and non-democratic societies.

The master's thesis "The Social Responsibility of Media in the Example of Edward R.Murrow" describes the development of social responsibility of media in the American radio and television broadcasting in the 20's - 50's of the 19th century and it demonstrates that in the examples of a CBS's reporter and anchorman, Edward R. Murrow. The thesis inquires the historical context in which the responsibilities of broadcasters came about describing the key events, regulatory authorities and the inception of the socially responsible media concept and its development trends. Firstly, the text focuses on the development of radio broadcasting, new demand for some level of control, and on the gaining dominance of commercial broadcasting media on the broadcasting market of the late 30's. Furthermore, the thesis analyzes the origins of television broadcasting of the late 40's and its progress in the 50's. The instances of social responsibility are demonstrated in the examples of Murrow's London radio broadcasts during the WWII and his latter TV show 'See It Now' in the McCarthyism era of the early 50's. Moreover, the thesis scrutinizes some of Murrow's TV and radio shows and looks at his activities in CBS from the late 30's up to his retirement in the early 60's.

The subject of this master thesis is the current development of the Hong Kong's news media in the period of 2005-2010 which is scrutinized through the prism of recent political and social changes of the region. The main object of this master thesis is to create a descriptive analysis of Hong Kong's mass media in the abovementioned period. This master thesis splits into three parts. First part is theoretical and examines the key media theories dealing with the concept of media systems. Furthermore, it uses the media theories to identify the Hong Kong's media system and embed it into the appropriate theoretical context. The second part presents the historical development of Hong Kong's press system and names Hong Kong's main newspapers of the last century. Third part, the main part of this master thesis, scrutinizes the development of the Hong Kong's media system after the political transition from the British to the Chinese "rule". Here, the main attention is paid to the current newspapers, broadcast stations and to the new trends in the Hong Kong's media environment. Finally, this master thesis evaluates whether the political pressure from China affects the Hong Kong's freedom of press and whether local journalists use methods of the self-censorship.

The master thesis Jan Petránek and his position in media. A biographical study. is describing life and publishing activities of journalist Jan Petránek. Text is dedicated to extensive period of time, from the birth of Petránek in 1931 up to the current year 2016. In each chapter, you can find foreword describing political and social context, which influenced not only Czechoslovakia Radio but the journalist himself. The used key methodology was oral history, conversations with Jan Petránek, research and work with the archived materials from National Archive in Prague and Archive of Czechoslovakia Radio. The biggest emphasis is focused on Petránek's work in Czechoslovakia Radio, he started to work there in 1951 until 1970, when he was fired for his activity in anti-occupation broadcasts in 1968. In the thesis, you can find information about his family, signature of Charta 77, activity in Lidové noviny and in the company Šanson - věc veřejná, established to support self-immolation of Jan Palach. Taking into account, that Jan Petránek until today, 2016, is still external contributor in Czech Radio and often guest in television programs, last chapter is dedicated to his activity after fall of communistic regime in 1989.
