Analýza vztahů NATO a Ruska z hlediska energetické bezpečnosti (od východního rozšíření v roce 2004 po vznik nové strategické koncepce NATO) / Analysis of relations between NATO and Russia in terms of energy securityBartáková, Anna January 2013 (has links)
Am of the thesis is to analyze the development of the relations between NATO and Russia since the eastern enlargement of NATO in 2004 until the formation of a New Strategic Concept in 2010 with an emphasis on theenergy diplomacy of Russia in the post-Soviet region. The functioning of Russian energy diplomacy is illustrated by the example of two Ukrainian gas wars. Objective of the thesis is to analyze how is Russia using its energy resources at the bilateral level (especially in the Eastern European region) and its influence towards NATO. There is an instrumental nature in understanding of the energy policy by Russia, which subsequently affects the potential expansion of NATO in the post-Soviet space. The conclusion is that European NATO and the U.S. should seek to maximize the diversification of energy resources to stabilize their negotiating position with the Russians.

Politika ruského státu vůči islámu. Případová studie: islám v Čečensku / Russian state policy towards islam. Case study: islam in ChechnyaMachalová, Jana January 2011 (has links)
The thesis analyses Russian politics on Muslims in Russia in the area of Northern Caucasus. The author describes the development of the relations between the Russian state and Islam in selected historical periods with the aim of pointing out Kremlin's repressive politics on Muslims. Repressive politics of the Russian state contributed towards spreading of Radical Islamism in Chechenya and in the Northern Caucasus which the author describes in a case study on analysis of the main causes of the radicalisation of the Chechenyan separatist movement during two Chechenyan wars. The author tries to defend the hypothesis that radical Islamism cannot be considered the main cause for breaking out of the Second Chechenyan War but the result of a brutal Kremlin's politics in Chechenya during both Chechenyan wars.

Vývoj ruského federalismu v letech 1994 - 2008: teorie a praxe na příkladu Republiky Tatarstán / Development of Russian federalism 1994-2008: theory nad praxis the case of Republic of TatarstanSrstková, Nela January 2012 (has links)
In Post-Soviet Russia new federal model was established in a very short time. It negatively influenced its future functioning. With the aim of precluding the secessionism of certain federal subjects, government decided to solve this situation by signing special bilateral agreements with part of them. Those agreements were breaching Russian Constitution adopted in 1993 but on the other hand, they brought a desired stability to the whole country. In my thesis I described a legal model of the federal arrangement and observed the differences between legal theory and practice, based on the agreements, mentioned above. Vladimir Putin, who became Russian president in 2000, started to reform federal system significantly. The main pillar of the reform was comprised by a bunch of federal laws adopted predominantly at the beginning of his presidency. Those laws were created in order to revise the advantages which were given to regions in the bilateral agreements. Legal theory and practice came closer together again. Is it possible to say that Russia set out on the journey of rule of law? My thesis will describe this development from the legal point of view. As the case study on which I want to demonstrate my conclusions I chose the Republic of Tatarstan.

Koncept humanitární intervence z pohledu Ruské federace / The concept of humanitarian intervention from the Russian perspectiveKubátová, Eliška January 2016 (has links)
The diploma thesis is concerned with the approach of Russian federation towards the humanitarian intervention concept, respectively to the responsibility to protect (R2P) doctrine, which was endorsed by all member states of the United Nations at the 2005 World Summit. The main idea of the doctrine is a duty of all states to protect their citizens, and if certain state is manifestly failing to protect its population, the international community has responsibility to use appropriate measures in order to protect lives of civilians. Therefore in extreme cases, states have the right to military intervene on a territory of other state. The Russian federation, which traditionally promotes principles of state sovereignty and non- interference, rejects the liberal conception of the humanitarian intervention and strongly criticizes interventions led by the West. On the other hand, Russia uses the concept if its own interests are at stake. The thesis illustrates this ambiguous perception of the humanitarian intervention concept by the Russian federation on several historic events, when Moscow either criticized Western states' implementation of the R2P concept (NATO intervention in Kosovo or the cases of Libya and Syria), or used the concept on its own in order to legitimize military intervention (Chechnya,...

Vztahy NATO - Rusko v novém tisíciletí / NATO - Russia Relations in the New MilleniumKonecký, David January 2002 (has links)
The subject of the dissertation thesis focuses on relations between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Russia in their post-9/11/2001 phase. The theoretical framework is provided by the realist school of thought with a special focus on the "defensive" strand of that school. The thesis has two main goals: the primary goal tests a validity of a statement "Confrontational aspects of the NATO -- Russia relations prohibit any significant mutually beneficial cooperation between the NATO and Russia", the secondary goal aims to create a robust body of primary-source information (with 31 December 2007 deadline). Confrontational aspects of the NATO -- Russia relations have been analyzed in the basic conceptual documents of both Russia and the NATO with following conclusions: (1.) Russia does not accept certain characteristics of NATO, (2.) NATO is not prepared to change these characteristics to meet Russia's objections. But as shown in the thesis, these conclusions do not prevent either side to state a conceptual preparedness to an interest-based cooperation. The other important aspect -- conventional and nuclear weapons balance -- has been analyzed in depth from both the static and dynamic point of view. The positive impetus generated through a rhetorical action immediately after the 11 September 2001 resulted in the creation of the NATO -- Russia Council (NRC). In comparison to the previous phase of the NATO -- Russia relations, the NRC comprises both evolution (prioritization of the content) and revolution (rejection of the previous form). But the positive impetus seems to be failing to generate concrete joint political or practical cooperative actions. Nevertheless, examples can be found of mutually beneficial cooperation between the NATO and Russia: operation Active Endeavor, search and rescue at the sea, project for fight against Afghan drugs, Cooperative Airspace Initiative. These examples do falsify the statement as defined under the primary goal of the thesis. As for a possible future development of the NATO -- Russia relations, the thesis concludes: (1.) No further upgrade of form is to be expected over a longer term, (2.) NRC is and will be and an import forum for a political dialogue, (3.) Mutually-beneficial cooperation will probably materialize through smaller-scale projects, (4.) Freezing of relations cannot be excluded, when an important political signal is to be sent, (5.) In spite of the Russia's denouncement of new military installation in Europe the fact is that the European perimeter is and will be for Russia far more secure and predictable than her Southern and South-Easter perimeter.

Assessment of the effects of sanctions on trade between the EU and Russia / Analýza dopadu sankcí na obchod mezi Evropskou unií a RuskemKolářová, Andrea January 2016 (has links)
This thesis is trying to assess the effects of sanctions imposed on Russia in 2014 by the European Union and other countries, with respect to the changes in the trade flows among the two participants (EU and Russia). Firstly, the theoretical background for sanctions is provided, explaining their meaning and instruments which they use. Secondly, the overview of the Ukrainian conflict is conducted together with a brief review of the economic restrictions which were implemented, as well as the Russian counter-sanctions. The empirical part is firstly explaining the effects of the restrictions on the both economies and then introducing the state of the bilateral trade flows between the EU and Russia before the imposition of the sanctions. The most important part of the thesis is the gravity model conducted in the third chapter, which is trying to estimate the effects of the sanctions on the EU-Russian trade flows using two approaches. One of them is conducted with the help of regression analysis and a dummy variable which controls for the sanctions effect. The other one is predicting the values of exports without the disturbance of the sanctions and then comparing the results with the real values of the export for the years examined. The results of these analyses have proven the expectations about the negative impact of the sanctions on the trade flows between the EU and Russia.

Rusko-gruzínská válka 2008: Ruské dilema / The 2008 Russia-Georgia War. Russia's DilemmaDoležel, Martin January 2012 (has links)
Russian government justified the war with Georgia by a set of normatively-legislative arguments. Intervention in Georgia was in accordance to those arguments legitimate. This rationalization proved to be invalid. Main goal of this diploma thesis was therefore to find Russian motives for the war with Georgia. Our hypothesis was that the reaction to Georgian military operation in South Ossetia was a result of a certain dilemma in Russian government. We used two methodological concepts introduced in the book of Graham T. Allison "Essence of Decision: Explaining the Cuban Missile Crisis" for the analysis. The first model, "rational actor", presumes that countries act in the international relations always rationally. "Rational actor" showed that Russian reaction was a result of the rational choice - Russia evaluated military confrontation with Georgia as the most advantageous alternative. The governments' behavior is in accordance to the second model, "organizational process", always limited by behavior of their parts - organizations. The second model revealed that the Russian reaction was result of activated programs, whose character led to massive military action. Our analysis showed that the model which fits better in the case of finding motives of Russian government for the intervention in Georgia...
